Magnificently in GE? How was it magnificent? That car chase is one of the worst in the entire series.
I completely disagree on this. The GE post-titles chase is a hoot. I always look forward to it and can't wait to see it again. It has a classic air to it (and that's not just the car, but also Famke's completely off the charts charismatic intro and the visual throwback to both GF & To Catch A Thief).

I believe it captures everything that's best about Bond. I'll take that chase any day over the dreck that we got in SP. It probably cost less than half to film it too.

Even Tom 'aped' it 5 yrs later in MI2.

    Much less than half.

I can't stand GE - never could. Grubby little charmless 80s TV movie. a real low point in the series for me.

Not about to defend the SP car chase though which was underwhelming and obviously a total waste of budget. Ditto Mendes's crappy explosion at Blofeld's base.

To be fair to Campbell though he made much better use of his more meagre budgets than Mendes in terms of what you see on screen. Still don't like GE though.

You're not alone Getafix! terrible car race (its not really a chase!) the horrible music, Brosnan at his most smarmiest, (and whose idea was the cravat?), that annoying bitch who's meant to be analysing him, the falling cyclists. No,awful start (and it didn't get much better!) I prefer the SP chase 9apart from the Moneypenny interruption!)

I love the whole SP car chase, and loathe the entirety of the one in GE.

I thought the way he did it in CR was better. Much better.

Having said all this, I'm so damn sick of the DB5. Mendes has utterly flogged it to death now.

Both reintroductions of the DB5 are pathetic and unnecessary. That said the one in GE is far worse. Bond has been absent for 6 years so don't waste the budget on some dull 'comedic' chase - give us a proper one.
I can t believe anyone actually likes the DAD gunbarrel. It s as daft as the rest of the film.

As Simon Gruber once said 'There's a difference between not liking one's brother and not caring when some Irish flatfoot throws him off a building.'

I don't think anyone has said they actually like the DAD GB, merely that it's better than the atrocities we got for QOS, SF and SP.

And that chase is even worse.

It truly hurts me to read such criticisms of the GE car chase. I much prefer it to the tank sequence later in the film.

    They are both underwhelming.

Yes the gunbarrel only lasts for about 15 seconds each film, but you can look at it another way - what does it make of the genius Sam Mendes if he can't get a 15 seconds sequence right in two tries?

To be honest I think the "charm" people remember of some of the older entries is down to nostalgia more than anything. Apart from the score I genuinely don't see any reason for ranking GE below the likes of DAF and TMWTGG, but people actually do.

Yes, two reasons. connery and Moore.
    They are both underwhelming.

Totally agree. Remember my heart sinking when I first saw the tank chase. The Glen era with its amazing action was still fresh in my mind in 95.

These days good action is the exception rather than the rule with Bond.

I've always liked the chases in GE, they were genuinely well done and fun/exciting for me - despite (or perhaps because of) the cheesiness.

The tank chase is one of my favourite action sequences in terms of spectacle, though I admit that most of the action in CR, SF and the PTS of SP surpass it.

Can't say i'm all that fond of the car chase in SP. Its ok but it plays out like a PlayStation game with Bond on the phone receiving plot details during the action. Reminded me of when I was playing Nightfire or Everything or Nothing as a teenager.

A lot of action these days looks like a computer game. SP train fight was nicely done tho.

That was brilliant. Got an applause from the audience I was with during the first time (of 2) I saw it in the cinema.

I wanted to see a fight like that since CR - not saying that the rest of Craig's movies haven't delivered in the fist fight department, of course, but with how muscular Craig is compared to the other actors, I was hoping we'd eventually get to see some huge sonofabitch throwing Bond around and hurting him.

Yes it was definitely overdue. Craig is so bulked up that his opponents often look like the underdog. He needs intimidating match ups in fights otherwise it lacks any sense of danger for Bond.

GE is the Best. Some just can't handle it.

To be fair I can see why some find the explosive/bombastic style of GoldenEye a turn off.

That said, Gotfried John, Judi Dench and Isabella Scoropco are all undoubtably superb. I don't think you can question their performances.

GE is one of the best in the last 25 years, only surpassed by CR & matched by SF imho.
GE isn't the best, but it is the Bond film I've indisputably watched most.

Wholeheartedly agree with that statement. All are in my top 3.

Next to CR I do think GE looks a bit on the creaky side.

There was a time when the so-called "Brosnan bashing" stood out big time, but it's gotten so cut-throat and critical around here in regards to so many other things surrounding Bond that I barely notice it any more.

You better not view my review of it so over in The Last Bond movie watched thread!
I do think GE is viewed with some rose tinted glasses for some! I've no problem with people liking it but calling it the best ever Bond makes me think you never seen any other Bond movie!

I've seen every Bond movie many times good sir and I still say GoldenEye is the best. No rose tinted glasses on my face.

    No Limits.
    No Fears.
    No Substitutes.

GoldenEye all the way Baby! \m/

I go out of my way to be soft on Brosnan and still people claim it's bashing.

Watching GE is the cinematic equivalent of being made to eat someone else's vomit, after they've been eating nachos and cheese.
