Yeah, where is DN, FRWL and OHMSS? Better than several of those films mentioned.

I think the last time Empire conducted one of these polls, before even CR was released, only GF used to make the list.

Lists like these are always subjective of course but a lot of my fav films are on there so I'm happy.

I'm very surprised FRWL didn't make it to the list.

I've never once seen it feature in a poll like this @Sandy but I'd certainly have FRWL on it before GF.

As great as Skyfall is, it really shouldn't even be on the list, let alone in the top 50. To say it's better than The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is insane. Other films way down the list, like Unforgiven and Planet of the Apes are also much better. Also, MAN OF STEEL!! Don't get me wrong, I like the film, but it really wasn't anything special and that was reflected in the reviews.

Jaws is in the top ten, and FRWL not even in the top 301. As baffled as you, @Candy.

Clearly, the under-30 demographic figured extremely heavily in this poll.

What's wrong with Jaws? It's bloody superb. :-bd

I found it boring and weak. Just issue a fatwa if that is too much.

I do agree that The Empire Strikes Back is the greatest film of all time, not my favourite film ever, but still a great piece of filmmaking. You can see that a lot of teenagers were involved in this poll, but they did however, still have the sense to include most of the old greats, but some films, such as Skyfall and Man of Steel, really shouldn't be on the list.

I agree. I find these kinds of lists very stupid. Mixing cinema with top of the pop.

I scrolled down and as soon as I saw Transformers I gave up. A list of the best films ever should be a compilation of films featuring stunning acting, writing, directing, photography and more. Basically, great films that are crowning achievements of their medium, not CGI action-fests with little to no care for the audiences watching them and devoid of any noteworthy character development or storytelling.

    301? What a silly number.

No sillier than having Skyfall listed as a better film than The Searchers, Chinatown, and The Seventh Seal, or a top ten with neither Casablanca nor Citizen Kane.

SF deserves a spot in any top 100. So do OHMSS and FRWL (even though I don't rate it as highly as most), and possibly CR.

How predictable that Empire would name Empire no. 1.

    It's all subjective though.

I personally wouldn't even have TESB at number 50 let alone number 1 but it's a majority vote.

One wonders what their favorite Queensryche song is, too.

@WillyGalore: You're right, of course, but the number of movies included is no less subjective, and I still think it's a bad list.

I always think film made within the last ten years, should be automatically excluded from these polls. It gives a clearer picture of things.

Ten years ago, Empire readers voted Gladiator the third best film.

Flash forward to today and it doesn't even make the list.
  • Gladiator turned up at #27 on this list, but your point still stands. People are always convinced the current era is either the greatest or worst in history, apparently oblivious to all the previous generations who claimed the exact same thing.

    That list is such bullshytt.
How can Citizen Kane and Casablanca not be in the top 10?
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang on the list ? You friggin kidding me?
    Nightmare on Elm Street?
Who did they poll? 16-24 year olds?

Yes, some of the list features new films that haven't even been out for public consumption for a year or two yet.

I remember. It is a good action, sword and sandal film, but that's it. Third best film of all time? Not even of the decade.

So it does. I checked the list twice before posting and still missed it! X_X ;-)

    Welcome to my world, b****!

Blade Runner, 2001, Gone With The Wind and ET should have ended higher on the list IMO. Glad to see T2 in there as well.
