Your Top 10 Saddest Bond Girl Deaths

Being a fan who often gets very attached to the Bond girls in each film, it often saddens me whenever one is done away with. I've thought long and hard about which are the saddest Bond girl deaths and have come up with my top 10, and hopefully, you will share yours as well.

10. Paula Caplan, Thunderball: Though her death isn't shown on screen, I always thought it was very tragic. Ingesting a cyanide pill to avoid torture is a sad way to go, and I always assumed Silva's described attempt of his experience with a cyanide pill in Skyfall was a tribute to Paula and her untimely death.

9. Vesper Lynd, Casino Royale: Some might have me beheaded because Veper's death isn't higher on the list, but I had to include it. Of course, I won't sit here and explain her death to you, because you all know what happened, and I think we can all agree that it is most definitely sad.

8. Strawberry Fields, Quantum of Solace: Even though we only see the aftermath of Strawberry's murder, I have trouble even thinking about it, because of its rather violent nature, and especially when you think about it being inflicted on such a gentle character like Strawberry. And her death being a homage to Jill in Goldfinger adds another level of emotion to it, in a nostalgic kind of way.

7. Tilly Masterson, Goldfinger: I find Tilly to be an extremely interesting character, and the circumstances surrounding her death even more so. When I think about the fact that she died while trying to avenge the murder of her sister, it makes her death even more memorable. Two sisters murdered in cold blood, not a happy thought.

6. Jill Masterson, Goldfinger: The first Bond girl to die in the film series, and definitely one of the most memorable due to its ridiculous, yet still somehow heartbreaking execution. It was definitely shocking to see her go upon my first viewing of the film, and continues to be a shock, just because of how happy her and Bond seem. Don't even get me started on Bond's face when he lays eyes on her dead body.

5. Andrea Anders, The Man with the Golden Gun: Again, though only her body is seen, just the implication of how she died is saddening. Shot in a crowded arena while patrons around her laughed and cheered. The haunting slight smile on her face is what really tops it off though.

4. Aki, You Only Live Twice: Aki's death is probably the most painful and scary, as well as being sad. Accidentally made to ingest poison meant for Bond was a horrible way for her to go, but it's what makes her one of the most tragic in my eyes, especially when you consider the possibility that she truly loved Bond.

3. May Day, A View to a Kill: A villain until very close to the end, May Day proved herself to be a good person in only her last few minutes on screen, when she voluntarily got herself blown up in order to stop Zorin's plans. Her final glance towards Zorin's blimp before she dies is what makes the scene though.

2. Corinne Dufour, Moonraker: Corinne's innocence and beauty were what made her a great Bond girl in my eyes, but her death is what sealed the deal. Chased down and mutilated by Drax's dogs as punishment for helping Bond was a cruel way for Corinne to go, but the entire scene is so beautifully done, and it actually brought a tear to my eye the first time I saw it. The beautifully haunting scoring for the scene also helped, and is a huge reason for why the scene is so successful in what it sets out to do.

1. Teresa di Vicenzo, On Her Majesty's Service: Moments after marrying Bond, Tracy is shot down by Irma Bunt in what is arguably one of the most shocking moments in film history, and is the first time we see a truly distraught Bond. Probably the one scene in a film that can make me cry every time I see it.

I encourage everyone to make a list and share it. I'd love to see everyone's opinions!

Aki's death is one of the most subtle and unexpected one of the better scenes in YOLT. Aki seemed such a sweet person too, probably one of the most undeserved deaths.

Plenty O'toole was the saddest for me. Such potential there. We barely knew you.

Can't disagree with this. I'm glad you included Paula from Thunderball, as I always liked her, and her death always comes as a blow.
  • Also this thread.

Also I personally feel that in no particular order the most genuinely sad Bond girl deaths that left Bond truly heartbroken were easily the demises of Tracy, Aki, and Vesper.

    Tracy #1.
    Severine #2.
    Fields #3.
The rest are sad to be sure, but these three angered me the most.

    4. Aki (the wife he pretended to have)
    5. Corrine (such a sexy voice wasted)

    7. Solange (what a waste of a gorgeous person)
    8. Severine (lived a very tough existence)
    9. Andrea (sucks to get shot at a kick boxing match)

Great list. Your top 5 are on point. Andrea Anders I find to always be a very underrated death. I might include Della and Severine on this list, but otherwise, quite good!

    1. Severine...victimized by a sadistic scumbag. Most disturbing death in the series IMO.
    2. Solange.....same as above
    3. Strawberry Fields..same as above. and she didn't even flirt with the dark side..the Craig-film villains are particularly heinous individuals.
    4. Paris Carver....another victim of the lie-down-with-dogs syndrome (see Solange)...tragic
    5. Plenty O'Toole...a complete innocent...even moreso than Fields...killed by a couple of sicko psychotics
    6. Della..brutalized by criminal sadists.
    7. Corrine.... brutally murdered by a deranged madman and his punk henchman
    8. Jill Masterson...didn't deserve this. Lie-down-with-dogs again.

The above I find to be the most disturbing. Tracy was killed in the heat of battle more or less. She and Bond had been battling Blofeld. Vesper commited suicide. She could have let Bond save her. Andrea's death was kinda antiseptic - clean, quick. It's also lie-down-with-dogs syndrome again. Aki was quick- agent killed in battle. Tilly was out to kill- out of her depth- got herself killed instead.

Anders' beautiful face permanently frozen in dull shock was a particularly chilling moment in a mostly otherwise weak, goofy film. And both her (and Severine to a lesser degree) being a kept, exploited woman is an added layer of tragedy.

That adds even more to the heartache.
