Italian press are reporting that Mario Balotelli missed Pirlo's farewell speech to the rest of the squad because he chose to sit on the bus by himself.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if true.

He wants to prolong his 'Why is it always me' attitude. He is a total attention seeker. Quite disrespectful towards a truly great player.

    Allegedly :)

Tonight France was kind of poor, that fella Pogba does not do the team any service.

    Swiss was great.

Expected France to break Ecuador down after Valencia was sent off.

How many hours from now is the U.S. Germany game? I'm trying to catch it (not video but live text) on this computer at work after I teach. In general, is it in one hour or 3 hours from now ....?

Van Gaal has the philosophy that it all comes down to systematic play, not beauty. The system should work and give exceptional players the opportunity to show their skills once in a while while they still interlock with the other players. The way Argentina plays now is reminiscent of Holland in '74 and '78, with their exceptional star player (Cruijff/Messi) who's capable of inspiring others. It seems more heroic, but I think in the end Van Gaal may be right that his way is more effective.

meanwhile, this is what they're saying in the US:

Van Gaal is in fact considered one of the godfathers of 'modern Total Football'. He was essential in establishing the popular, entertaining Ajax side of the nineties and Barcelona of the early 21st century. With both sides he did a considerable job in keeping their stylistic legazy alive. He was also a great inspiration for Pep Guardiola's modern 'Tiki-taka'. He has always been a bit more pragmatic than his Total Football predecessors, but the level of cynicism in this Holland team of his has surprised many.

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez suspended for 9 international matches & banned for 4 months from any football-related activity.

Liverpool won't be happy, though it appears most Liverpool ex professionals want rid. Wonder if that ban includes transfer activity?

    FIFA confirms transfer still possible.

4 months not allowed near or in a stadion in any football related activity, and a nine match ban for him playing for Uruguay.

And somehow I doubt that he will never bite anybody again.

    Agreed @SaintMark.
He has already bitten players 3 times,he cant control the urge,so im sure he will do it again.

He could become an expensive liability for Liverpool, they should get rid of him.

I bet the ban will be reduced in some way once an appeal is lodged. It's usually what happens.

Just heard on Talk sport, ban can't be appealed against only the 65 thousand pounds fine can be appealed against.

Ban him for life is my view.

He can appeal but FIFA have confirmed he's still out of the World Cup regardless.

Uruguay are reportedly threatening not to play the round of 16 game against Colombia because of the Luis Suárez ban.

Good...maybe they will fly England back over ? hahaha

Off the topic of the buck-toothed pillock - one for the US members. Is there genuinely more of an interest this time around? I keep seeing articles about this being the tipping point for US (soccer), but it happens every four years, so is there genuine movement or is it just a flash in the pan moment, or in fact just media spin?

Wow! This is getting dramatic! Ghana needs one goal to qualify and send the americans home...

So Colombia got the next round handed to them, with Suarez out it will be a big difference and then we have not yet spoken about the psychological effect on the Uruguay team. And those lads deserve better just like the guys from Liverpool that suffered due to Mr Suarez need to nibble on his opponents. Half football player and half Piranha.

So I had DVR'd the US game to watch tonight, but it turned out three people in my office were taking a long lunch to watch it, and my boss said I could too! It was AWESOME leaving in the middle of a work day to watch a live World Cup match.
I'm not really disappointed that the US didn't win. It would have been nice, but they played well against Germany (I mean, it's Germany). I was a little worried when I found out that Ghana had tied the Portugal game, but was cheering when the announcers said Portugal had scored another goal. (Thanks Ronaldo!)

It's a slowly but surely process in the colonies. The '94 World Cup was the foundation. As more and more kids get into soccer, they grow up and become fans. The sport has evolved more with the youth as time has gone by. It will never surpass the NFL, NBA or MLB in popularity here, but it can definitely move into #4 in terms of popularity in the future.

The MLS has become more credible thanks to more international players coming over. Plus, the success of the US Women's team during the last 15 years have helped as well in terms of popularity. The casual fans are more into the World Cup this year with it being in Brazil. This means the casual fan can watch the games at a reasonable time. That, and this is the one popular team sport that the Americans do not dominate the other countries, thus making it more suspenseful and interesting.
