Series Finales (or Season Finales) that Worked

We have given much writ and some venom to some of the weakest finales offered up by the networks(Seinfeld, Lost to name a couple) and or our favorite shows. I want to take the time and discuss some series that actually left us feeling good and fulfilled when they finished their runs. We do not have to limit ourselves to series finales but season finales as well.

Forgive me if we already have a thread for this.

Here are some of my choices BEWARE SPOILERS WITHIN

Star Trek TNG The two hour finale that aired on a weeknight in 1994 was worthy of big screen. In quality, story, action, it was a great end to a great series.

Quantum Leap The episode "Mirror Image" left some fans dissatisfied. I think the consesus was 50-50. For me the episode worked. It ended on a touching and heart warming note. It harked back to the shows tear jerker episode, "M.I.A." I had no problem to how the creator choose to end this good sci fi series after 5 seasons.

Newhart This is probably the fans and critics choice for best finality ever.

Blakes 7 After four seasons and seeing cast members killed off during the four year run, the producers opted to kill everyone off in the finality. Bold.

Sliders The final episode ended ambiguous and we never see the fate of Rembrandt, the last remaining member of the original cast. I did not have a problem with the episode. "The Seer" is an interesting and entertaining hour of television.

Scandal This guilty pleasure really flew off the rails last season. Identity crises and all but after watching the finale, I was left wanting to see how next season unfolds. It seemed to somehow right itself during the finale, but we just have to wait and see.

I can only point to a single mid-season finale, and that is The Walking Dead's season 4 mid-season finale. It was very worthy of the name season finale, and it marked the halfway point.

'Breaking Bad' comes to mind, and ended exactly how I would've wanted it to. Another one that's a bit more recent is the series finale of 'Californication.' I felt like they added way too much in a short span of time for the final season, but it ended the only way I wanted it to end, and if you've seen the show before, I think you'd agree.

'Third Watch' was another one with not only suspenseful, tense, wonderful season finales that left me guessing until the following season premiere, but the series finale wrapped everything up quite nicely, showing what happened to the characters in the immediate future.

Then, of course, you have your time wasters - the horrid endings that can ruin a show - such as 'Dexter' (which was ruined from season five on) and 'Lost.'
