I just had a horrible idea (new bond girl)

I think most of you agree with me that "the next Bond movie" (23 or any other future film) should be related to pop culture, reflecting the spirit of our time, like the old Bond movies represent the 60s, 70s, ... and have an impact on us right now. (some Bond movies achieved this, Casino Royale had this to some extend)

When watching some Grace Jones music videos I noticed that in about every video there is a discussion in the comments comparing Grace Jones to Lady Gaga and I agree that Lady Gaga has some of the extravagance of Grace Jones.

Now my horrible idea (Gaga fans aren't gonna like this):

Grace Jones was a "bond girl", what if Lady Gaga would play a role in a movie?

EON wouldn't hire her to even wipe their floors.

It depends on the role. Is she going to be a leather-clad fencing instructor like Verity, or is she going to be a kitschy popstar like Ilyena?

Wasn't Lady Gaga already in DAD?

I'm OK with her being in a Bond film as long as she gets killed and is limited to no more than 10 seconds of screen time.

No indeed, it's a terrible idea. That Madonna wannabe has no place polluting anything Bond related, we don't have a whore-loving director this time, let's keep it clean.

Lady Ga Ga divides everyone as other extravegant pop stars have before her.

When you boil it down to pure talent, then she simply is a very good song writer. Like Prince and others before her you have to get beyond the image. A Bond film? Maybe, I certainly understand where @Sir_Hilary_Bray is coming from. She would reflect where we are in 2011/12 as other stars have done in the past.

I've never understood this thing with Lady GaGa. I've given her music a try but boy did I hate it. I particularly dislike all the media frenzy involving her because she's really not that interesting. She's the Justin Bieber of people with a limited understanding of what 'provocative rockstar behaviour' is all about.

As for Bond, if they let her sing the title theme, I can understand it. If they hire her for anything else, including fetching Daniel Craig his donuts, they are mad.

I can't bear her cat strangling excuse for music. It would be bad enough if she was choosen to sing the title track, but to give her screentime? [-( Lady Gaga, good lord, who's next, Justin Bieber?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they hired Lady Gaga, or even Justin Bieber to write/sing the title song of a future Bond film.

Probably not B23, because of the 50th anniversary, but if in 3 years both of these artists are still 'big names', I would not rule out either one of them making a theme song.
  • Bieber would ruin a half-century old franchise in a 2min song!

Well his music videos are seen by tens of millions of people, he sells millions of albums, all his songs a instant hits... Why wouldn't they hire such big name ?

Because he's the sort of singer who would be on the soundtrack for a trashy teen movie or the next High School Musical. To hire him for Bond would be insane, especially considering that 90% of his fanbase is made up of squealing teenage girls.

"Whore-loving director?" Those are pretty strong words.

I've never understood people hating a type of music or a particular artist. I can understand someone saying "That music isn't to my tastes" but actual hate? Really? With all the bad people in the world (dictators slaughtering civilians, pedophiles, Wall Street investors wiping out the retirement savings of eldery people while giving themselves multi-million dollar bonuses) someone singing a song engenders hate?

As for Lady Gaga as I said in a previous post she certainly has the singing chops when you hear her acoustic performances. I wouldn't mind her having a title song. Nothing she has said has indicated that she would want to act in anything like a Bond film, even if only a minor part and I don't think that type of stunt-casting fits in with the way Bonds films are done in the "Craig era" (if only two films are anything to go by).

Let me be out and clear. Justin Bieber over Lady Gaga. And believe me, I'd take the trololo song over Bieber as main theme...

Let's write to Stephen Harper to have Bieber's citizenship revoked.

No Lady Gaga please. We'd like someone with at least ~some~ musical merit.

@Sir_Hilary_Bray...... LMAO... forget Klienman or MK12 - just hire this kid to do the opening credits with his Lego people lol..

@Luds...... Lady Gaga's talent lies in the fact that she has none lol... her voice is pretty average - but due to the magic of mixing, and autotune, she can sound halfway listenable.....

basically what it boils down to - is that I don't want another title theme like "Die Another Day".. i don't need a theme to appease all the little trashy club dancers.. that is what angered me about Madonna's theme..... because around that time, I had just hear her song "Frozen" (which i love) - so i thought holy crap, she's doing a Bond theme? it's going to be epic!...... sadly, it was an epic FAIL! FAIL! FAIL!

I wouldn't worry about it, they don't seem to use artists who are at the peak of their fame/popularity. Lady Gaga will probably end up doing the theme for Bond 29.

Bond 29? Nobody will remember who she was by Bond 25!

To be honest, I doubt they'd go down the, if you like, big-time celebrity mash-up route they went with DAD for Bond 23. Especially not with Craig's Bond. It went down well in 2002 - particularly with the wider public - but tends to be ridiculed (especially by Bond fans) nowadays.

So, the likelihood they'd go for Lady Gaga for the title song maybe isn't great (she probably wouldn't want to do it anyway - it's not where she sees her career and image right now, I'd wager, and she hardly needs it) - and it's even less likely they'd offer her a role. If they did it'd be a tiny Branson-like cameo that'd make little dent if at all in the flick, I'd imagine...
