I saw a lot of new releases in the cinema by my standards; usually I only catch one or two at most. Here's the rest, in rough order of enjoyment:
Tomb Raider
Johnny English 3
Incredibles 2
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Top new-to-me film was probably Hell Drivers, watched on Talking Pictures TV and featuring a young Sean Connery, Patrick McGoohan and David McCallum.
Ready Player One
Sicario 2
Into the Spiderverse (excellent! Movie of the year!)
If tv productions Count, I really enjoyed Bodyguard.
I´m not sure what´s coming in 2019. Looking Forward to:
Glass
Knives out
With slightly mixed Feelings:
Once upon a time in Hollywood
The Irishman
Avengers Endgame
On the positive side, I´m experiencing a Phase where I thorroughly enjoy re-watching not so new films, and reading James Bond novels ;-).
Hell Drivers is a great movie. You forgot to mention the lead, Stanley Baker and it's directed by Cy Enfield of 'Zulu' fame! Have it on dvd, terrific film!
Ferdinand (2017). The first movie i have seen in 2018. In the cinema in 3D. 8/10
Mission Impossible 5 (2015). Belgium tv premiere 8/10
Triple x 3 (2017). Dutch tv premiere 8/10
Eye in the Sky (2015, 2016 movie in Netherlands). Dutch tv premiere 7/10
Central Intelligence (2016). Dutch tv premiere. 7/10
Disney animated movie. Mabey inspecialy Fantasia (1940) with Micky Mouse as apprentice (Dutch: Tovenaars leerling). I whas the first or one of first Vhs i collect in 1992 or so and stil have it.
North by Northwest.
Harold Lloyd films.
Probably the original King Kong as i grew up loving Dinosaurs, Gorillas, Monsters and horror films. The whole plot of travelling to a mysterious unknown Island appealed to me greatly.
Good choice.
I figure it meant in any context, I just used movies I didn't like that made me re-evaluate the original.
In that context, any Disney feature film sequel. They are all sacrilege, except maybe THE RETURN OF JAFAR, which was almost as good as ALADDIN. The third was garbage, though.
I liked X-Men the first time I saw it but wasn't completely sold on it. X2 changed all that: it increased my love for the characters and their conflicts ten-fold. Going back to X-Men, I suddenly found myself really loving it big time because of the "help" I got from its sequel.
Same thing with The Mummy Returns, G.I. Joe Retaliation, The Crimes Of Grindelwald, Ghost In The Shell: Innocense, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes and, at the age of 14, Aliens. (Concerning the latter: it took me a few more years to realise the utter brilliance of that first film!)
Police Academy 3 is actually one of the films I've watched the most outside the Bond films. It was a favourite of mine when I was younger.
I'm the opposite, but also bias. I think Aladdin and the King of the Thieves could have been put in theaters. Just up the budget just a bit.
1. Blade Runner 2049 (Denis Villeneuve, 2017)
2. I Saw The Devil (Kim Jee-woon, 2010)
3. The Raid 2 (Gareth Evans, 2014)
4. Parasite (Bong Joon Ho, 2019)
5. Sicario (Denis Villeneuve, 2015)
6. Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller, 2015)
7. 13 Assassins ( Takashi Miike, 2010)
8. Inception (Christopher Nolan, 2010)
9. Hell or High Water (David Mackenzie, 2016)
10. Wolf of Wall Street (Martin Scorsese, 2013)
Yes, of course we can. I must, however, point out that a decade runs from year 1 to year 10. ;-) So, in essence, the past "decade", the "tens" as it were, isn't over until a year from now. :D
You really want to add the Sonic movie in your top 10, eh @DarthDimi ? ;-)
Yeah. And this little indie pic called No Time To Die looks pretty fine too. ;-)
