Aside from MI:2, Ethan has been rogue. :))
  • Employment: Impossible?

Jim: "Your mission should you choose to accept..."
Ethan: "No thanks. Think I'm just gonna do my own thing this time around. Kinda like the last time. Worked out pretty well. Hey, see you in a couple hours to talk about getting me my job back."

Ethan Hunt and Dan's Bond would actually be able to understand each other pretty well by this point, and would likely get on damn good over a few pints.

Hunt: "I'll tell you James, I could lose days at a time telling you all the things I've been through. I've been at the IMF for over two decades, and no matter how much time passes, there's always something that makes me go rogue. If it's not a mole on the inside it's a mission I've got to do hush hush because we think there might me a traitor around. So then I've gotta dodge bullets from my own people, try to problem solve with out-dated tech, just to stop the next lunatic from destroying the world. It's just...I'm always-"

    Bond: "Having to prove yourself?"

    Hunt: "Exactly!"

Bond: "I'm in the same bloody business, Ethan. I used to be the golden boy. If a mission came up, all I heard from the top brass was, 'Let's get Bond on this one.' Then, of course, the years go by, I don't get any younger, and...well, you know the rest. So then they tell me, 'Oh James, you're past your expiration. James, spies are antiquated; technology is the new world saver. There's the unemployment line.' Then of course they cock it up and I've got to fix what they've put in shambles, proving how valuable my 00 program is in the course of it all. And yet, it's never enough. So guess what happens when the same stuff goes down again?"

Hunt: "They continue to question your abilities."

Bond: "They continue to question my abilities!"

Hunt: "Forget about 'em, James. Let's you and me start our own private security firm, then watch as they come calling after us when it all goes to hell for the thousandth time."

Bond: "At which point we'd drop it all and help them in a second anyway."

Hunt: "Of course. That's what makes us who we are."

@ClarkDevlin, but the main angle of the whole film is that they're rogue and don't have the proper equipment, so they're left to finish the mission with what they have; sets up all the confusion and lack of confidence for the Dubai scenes, as Benji harks on about how much easier it'd be if they could call people back at the office, had the facial mask machine that worked properly, etc.
Yes, @Creasy47, I understand. But, it's more of a complicated issue rather than black and white. They didn't really go rogue like in 1, 3 and Rogue Nation. They still had one mission kept intact which The Secretary agreed to, kind of a process IMF executed without the knowledge of the government, which has always been a basis for the television series. So, it's rogue to the government on surface, but an intact mission to the deep cover blackops dossiers. Besides, had they failed, they always had to be disavowed, that's a policy IMF carried since the 1960s.

According to the schedule on BoxOfficeMojo, it seems that in September/October 2017 we will have older action stars being total badasses for several weeks in a row.

September 29: Tom Cruise in 'American Made' and Denzel Washington in 'The Equalizer 2'.
October 6: Harrison Ford in 'Blade Runner 2'.
October 13th: Liam Neeson in 'The Commuter'.
October 20th: Gerard Butler in 'Geostorm'.

If that doesn't excite you, I don't know what can. ;)

All films I'm looking forward to with anticipation @DaltonCraig007. Embarrassingly, I've yet to watch the first Equalizer yet. I'm waiting to pick up a few on sale, and this is on the list.

I'm really looking forward to the 2nd Blade Runner. What an event film that's going to be!

It's stuff like this that stops me from feeling too depressed about the lack of Bond. I can't wait for these.

Harrison Ford in BR2 sounds a bit misleading, because I bet he won´t be in it for more than a few minutes. Oh, wait, Han Solo was in almost all of SW7....

I don't like when good movies are competing at the boxoffice, usually it means that one movie will not make the full profit it deserves and the other will flop..

Two hard 'a' action legends (both known for giving slightly unhinged performances) on the big screen together. Should be great.

Cage has seemingly stopped doing sh*t films, which is terrific.

I missed Dog Eat Dog on the filmfest a few weeks ago. I´m glad it´s coming to theaters regularly.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. He was great in a small role in Snowden.

As long as Cage stops channeling Elvis for a whole movie he is quite watchable.

He's still got some duds in his filmography these days:

Dog Eat Dog looks fun from the trailer..

Also no one posted the teaser for Passengers? It's like a 5 second clip montage and the trailer drops tomorrow. The movie looks grandiose but I hope it won't get old after a while since the movie is probably Lawrence and Pratt together.

I have high hopes for the movie tho.

Also in an unrelated news....I saw "Nerve" today.....actually I liked the movie. I hope that at least one of the people that worked on the movie will have a great career. Great directing, great soundtrack, great cinematography. Would recommend it.

A potentially amazing cinema experience that they completely cheaped out on by the looks of things.

OK. Now, I'm looking forward to this!

A bit strange (in a good way) though as to why Dwayne Johnson is dressed like Doc Savage (a role he'll actually be playing soon).

I'm really looking forward to The Commuter. Not only is Liam in it, but Sam Neill and Vera Farmiga too. The synopsis suggests this is going to be vintage Neeson badassery.

I'm not so sure about Jumanji. We'll see how it comes along.

That's a great trailer @DaltonCraig007. I was so impressed with the visuals that I looked up who did the cinematography. Oscar Faura also did The Imitation Game which was impressive. He is going places.

She couldn't have dressed more unsuitably for a jungle climate if she tried.
