That's what I thought @DaltonCraig007, based on the the trailers you've been posting. It's interesting, because South Korea is an incredibly advanced society. So it's probably a cultural thing. I assume the same goes for Japanese films too most likely.

Maybe it depends on the genre? Hard crime films it sounds like? I actually think all of the Korean films I've seen—The Host, Thirst, My Sassy Girl, I'm a Cyborg But That's OK, 3-Iron, Failan, Spring Summer Fall Winter...and Spring, Snowpiercer—have featured prominent female parts.

Yes, you're probably right, and that too is cultural. I suppose something similar existed in Hollywood at one time, although they tended to always have a prominent female part (even if it was eye candy or a victim) even in the hard crime action genre.

The crime genre has given the world the femme fatale, which is one of the greatest roles a woman could ever strive to play in cinema, and a grand departure from eye candy or damsel in distress roles. The femmes get to carry the guns, play a better game than the boys do, and in many notable instances, they are the only ones left standing amongst the carnage they sowed like black widows after the bite.

Cool chicks, basically. If one had to go, there are worse ways than in the arms of a dangerous and capable woman with the face of an angel and the heart of a devil.

Hardly always. See Lawrence Of Arabia, for instance - and that's a nearly 4 h long movie, but it's all about men. (There are a few women seen very briefly, but it's not like they're actual characters or get to speak or anything.)

And nowadays women very often get relegated to the supporting wife/girlfriend roles (whereas supporting husband/boyfriend roles barely exist at all... of the top of my head only one such role comes to mind - Hugh Grant in Florence Foster Jenkins and he was in the movie as much as Meryl Streep was, and not just kissing her goodnight or being concerned on the phone, you know... which is what one tends to get with supporting wife roles). Or wife/gf/daughter is the victim, and then the movie is about the man. Many movies have women just to show that hey, these guys are actually straight (apparently that's important). Or there's an older male hero with a much younger female companion, just because. And of course there are plenty of movies with almost entirely male casts, the stories are mostly about men. That's pretty much the norm regardless of genre. There are exceptions, of course - such as Fury Road, which really, really surprised me - seeing men and women as equals in modern movies really is that rare. But on the whole, well...

I'm not familiar with Korean movies, but concentrating on men is very obvious in Hollywood, so I don't know how much cultural difference there is in that sense.

Yes. Those are actually proper roles.

Just two days left. They're showcasing 'John Wick 2' for an hour on Saturday, my bet is they release the trailer then.

First two TV spots for 'Hacksaw Ridge' have been released:

Is it just me, or does it seem like there's a lot of sci-fi coming out these days. Looks like Star Wars may have reignited the genre.

There's the aforementioned Valerian, as well as Rogue One, Arrival, Passengers, Passage to Mars, and of course the 2017 heavy hitters: Alien Covenant, SW8 and Blade Runner 2.

I hope we get to see footage of the Logan film through Comic-Con. I want Hugh to go out with a bang.

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7 I think we will get a trailer very soon. Once 'Doctor Strange' is out, there will be no upcoming Marvel (MCU or X Men related) films with a trailer available. Next stop is this (Logan) and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, so these films will release footage soon enough.

That's indeed a true sequel to the original Death Race 2000.

Even though Paul Anderson said the Statham/Luke Goss Death Race films are intended to be prequels, I refuse to believe that.
