    Well that's positive @DaltonCraig007. Hopefully it's up on the screen.

    I imagine this is a film that will probably target the Asian market, given the premise. I noticed the last two films you posted have some mention of China/Chinese, which is to be expected going forward I suppose.

    @bondjames I am noticing the China links in action films on a frequent basis in the past year. Just a couple of weeks ago when I saw The Hitman's Bodyguard, I noticed the opening credits listed a Hong-Kong company as one of the main financiers for the film.

    The cinematography looks outstanding for Hostiles. And Christian Bale, when he gets in his 'zone', is a true sight to behold.

    Indeed @DaltonCraig007. I think I saw that on the recent FF film and Kong: Skull Island too. It's inevitable. Money talks and they will be the biggest market in a few years.

    Hostiles was very well received in Telluride - in general, and the cast on the whole - especially Bale, but also Rosamund Pike was called "superb" etc. - and the cinematography were praised. I've seen it called Cooper's best, one of Bale's best and Pike's best by some. Apparently the movie is contemplative, slow-burning, lyrical, beautiful and brutal. Some people - who were watching new films all the time - reported much later it really staying with you. I don't remember if anyone said anything about Max Richter, but I'm really looking forward to the score as well.

    edited to add: It's heading to Toronto, where it's expected to be sold. Whether it will be released this year or next remains to be seen and depends on the distributor.

    @Tuulia, I noticed the cinematography and the score from that trailer alone and checked out both Max Richter's and Masanobu Takayanagi's CVs just prior to your post, so it made an impression.

    @Creasy47 - Mine as well, and I've liked Cooper's previous movies, too, and I knew to expect excellence from the cast (not just because it's a great cast, but because Cooper is so good with actors). Knowing what type of a movie it would be I was surprised by how good the reception was beyond the acting, though. Cooper doesn't make regular crowd-pleasers, so...

    @Tuulia, yes, his films don't appear to be for everyone. 'Out of the Furnace' received some scathing reviews, but I loved it, particularly the slow-burn aspect to it and the electrifying performances throughout.

    @Creasy47 - The same, and it has just improved for me on re-watches. (I tend to notice more details in movies when I already know what happens, and I enjoy that process. - When there's stuff worth noticing, that is.) The acting is basically impeccable from everyone and that alone is amazing to watch, and by now I'm familiar with the score (got the cd) which feels kinda perfect for it. The same cinematographer. (OOTF was their first collaboration, Hostiles 3rd.)

    I like Cooper's approach in general. The whole backstory to Hostiles was pretty interesting, too, and made me all the more interested when listening to a podcast with him. It also seems to be a pretty relevant story today though obviously set very much in the past.

    It's such a pity that getting movies like these even to theatres is such a struggle.

    Agreed, and yet we'll inevitably get the 4,000th 'Transformers' film eventually. It is a shame.

    Reviews are starting to trickle in for mother! (11 out of 12 on RT are fresh so far). Trying to stay away from details, so no full reviews for me. But I did glance at the excerpts on RT. I'll paste a few below in spoiler tags in case anyone wants to go in 100% in the dark.
    A dense, delirious, playful and serious work of capital A art, and easily the most ambitious film to come out of a major studio since Kubrick died.
    Mother! is perhaps Aronofsky's most extreme film to date, but if you're going to go over the top, you might as well break through the ceiling and head for the stars.
    A very Rosemary's Baby-like intimate horror tale that definitely grabs your attention and eventually soars well over the top to make the bold concluding statement that, for some creators, art is more important than life.
    "mother!" is something truly magnificent, the kind of visceral arthouse experience that comes along very rarely and spits you out into the daylight dazzled, queasy, delirious, and knock-kneed as a newborn calf.
    The first portion is very Ingmar Bergman-like, a suffocating chamber play with simpler dream machinations and a frightening world of unease. The second portion turns into outright chaos, a carnival ride of horrific human behavior.

    Can't help but be suspicious of overstatement in a few of those, but so far the language being used reminds me of how BLACK SWAN was received initially, which is encouraging.

    I'll see both mother! (I haven't even watched the trailer and don't intend to - I was always going to see it anyway... that much I knew before it even started production) and Lady Bird ASAP. Very excited too. :)

    Also Novitiate and The Shape Of Water and The Battle of The Sexes and Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri and... and some of them I suspect never come to a theatre near me. I still haven't seen a bunch of movies from last year that I wanted to, but they never came here at all. I will see them eventually, at home, but the situation pisses me off. /rant

    The plot of the 2nd film: Dead victims, who are called RV (Resurrected Victims), come back to the living world to kill their murderer who went unpunished. After killing their murderers, the RV disappear.

    Netflix has announced its new feature film: The Pope, which will follow the story of Pope Benedict’s election, and his subsequent resignation from the papacy. That opened the door for Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the Argentinian Cardinal who became the first Jesuit pope, the first from the Americas and the first Pope from outside Europe since the 8th Century.

    It will be directed by Fernando Meirelles ( 'City of God' and 'The Constant Gardener'), and will feature Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, respectively as Pope Francis and Pope Benedict.

    They damn well better have casted Pryce, since he's obviously the real Pope Francis in disguise. The similarities are scary.
