Review embargo for How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World has already been lifted, over 50 days before the US release (February 22nd), and is getting acclaimed as one of the best trilogy conclusions ever made.
Yes the real question is W H Y would he
This is surprising, as it had flop written all over it after how underwhelming the marketing campaign has been thus far. I haven't seen anything about it in my area. Not even a TV spot.
But maybe they have faith in it, after all.

30 The Equalizer 2 Sony $3,193,536 8/16
31 Ready Player One WB $3,000,000 3/29
In 2016 the first Fantastic Beasts movie whas number 1 movie of the year with $11,875,561, whyle it whas close call with Bridget Jones's Baby ($11,553,946). Without Bohemian Rhapsody the movie have been again winner of the year with almoost same kind of money. Only Spectre (22,1 million), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($15,659,687) & Minions ($14,967,100) in 2015 comes close to the 16 million. The number 4 of 2015 Jurassic World deliever a litle bit les then Fantasic Beast movies.
The Fifty Shades of Grey 3th movie Fifty Shades Freed stable as earlier two movies. The first did $6,907,429, Second movie did $6,332,203 and this one $6,487,334.
Smallfoot $4,914,125 (Sadley enough no 3D BD release :( ). Meg did $4,200,000, litle under performing in my opion. Maze Runner: The Death Cure $4,080,625. Ocean's 8 did amazing $3,819,573. Tombraider $3,627,516. Red Sparrow $3,466,144. The Equalizer 2 $3,193,536. Three Billboards did $3,478,033 and i consider that as litle suprise hit and same can be said about The Darkest Hour (With Gary Oldman) with $2,264,027 and The Post ($2,657,126).
Mi6 almoost double like Skyfall suprise with double count of views (2 million) in 2012 with 25 million (ticket price of 11,50 - 12,00 euro). Rogue Nation did $4,300,210 and that's les then Mi4 with $5,080,233. The numbers of Mi6 are very close to Bond movies like Tomorrow Never Dies and Quantum Of Solace. Of course it should not be vergotten that QOS 8,50 - 8,75 euro a ticket. Now you pay 12,50 euro for Mi6 or 15,00 for 3D or 4D ticket. Difrence of 2 tickets for a movie or 3 tickets. QOS (and some others of 8 million era) are now 15-16 million, so QOS is even big hit as Bohemian Rhapsody.
Biggest flops in The Netherlands, from movies you expect more:
With $3 million i think Ready Player One disapointed, the disapointed BD release not make it easier. But it can be worse, new Starwars movie (Solo: A Star Wars Story) did $2,904,945. Ant-Man 2 with $2,655,111. (first movie did $1,850,753.). I watched first Ant-Man movie this year (2018) and even after i watched it stil think it should have deliever same count of money as Iron Man. I blame failer that Disney own it now and mabey because of the crossover with Avengers. I stil give movie 8 - because it have that Iron Man humor and like to see Michael Douglas in it, but Mortal Kombat fight not belongs there. Tv series crossovers already can deliever problems.
But biggest flops are I, Tonya ($555,967) The Girl in the Spider's Web: A New Dragon Tattoo Story (Les then 600.000), The House With A Clock In Its Walls ($601,252) Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado ($648,823) Pacific Rim 2 Uprising $1,124,212. Tadeo Jones 2 (Universal take over from Lionsgate) did $1,502,135 and also Universal deside not to make 3D release and no extra's.
