Man, what happened to Russell Crowe? I haven't seen a career drop off in quality as sharply as his has.

Mel Gibson? And Will Smith's post Oscar slap career isn't going to be great. He was banned from the Oscars for ten years!

This might turn out to be my favourite film review quote of the year..
Argylle is as ridiculous as Henry Cavill’s haircut – and a waste of $200,000,000

;)) I laughed out load when I read that. It's from the Metro newspaper.

I think Jada should be banned with Will. She is not any better than he is, in anyway. Clearly, she said something to him, as he was laughing before, while she rolled her eyes. As for Argylle, I’m just so sick of Samuel L Jackson. He’s like John Wayne: no range, always the same.

Brad Pitt is set to reunite with Quentin Tarantino (and probably play the lead) in the director's final film, The Movie Critic:

Some reviews of Argylle are some of the worst I've ever seen. And cinema haa been around since 1895! This one is astonishingly negative.

‘Argylle’ is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen "Argylle," the new $200 million action-thriller from Matthew Vaughn, is a stunningly awful movie.

It's not in the 10 percent Rotten Tomatoes league so that's a minor positive I guess, currently at 34%, but the negative reviews are reaaaaaaaaalllllllly bad.

Hopefully Beetlejuice 2 and Ghostbusters Frozen Empire are decent. I'm not sure both films are going to have mass appeal. Can't imagine most gen Z movie goers know much about Beetlejuice. Maybe a sequel arriving too long after the original?

@bondywondy, I especially enjoyed this excerpt from Rolling Stone:

"What we can tell you is that there’s another, even more profound revelation long before that 'gotcha!' exposition gets dropped. You start to suspect it before you’ve even transitioned out of the first act, and it’s more or less confirmed by the time the big whoa moment shows up. The spoiler is: Argylle is a bad movie. A very, very bad movie."

I saw the trailer in cinemas attached to some other films over the last few months and every time I couldn't believe just how awful it looked. I feel like I can already tell what the big twist is just from those trailers alone, whereas the CGI looks like it belongs in the early 2000s.

Maybe film critics are more miserable during the winter time! It's cold and dark early. Maybe in the warm summertime they might see Argylle and like it more. I dunno.

It could also just be a trash film, another terribly crafted $200 million turd. I'll watch it at some point but I won't be paying money to.

I loved LAYER CAKE when it came out. I need to revisit it soon. But I’ve been disliking the movies Matthew Vaughn’s had been making afterward. He seems to have just wallowed in silly action comedies for the last ten years. He seems to think just having charismatic actors winking at the camera is enough to make these movies fun.

The NYT Argylle reviewer asks, "Why am I not watching a Bond film?" We've all been asking that. Is it an homage, a satire, or a parody? Apparently, something that doesn't fit any of those descriptions. I once thought HC could be a decent Bond but increasingly he seems to have become a caricature of himself. He doesn't seem to be the same actor I first became aware of in The Tudors.

I was not a fan of the first and did not bother with the second, this prequel actually looks far more interesting.

I enjoyed the first two and will definitely check this one out..
On a side note , for anyone familiar with the old UK show, “ Primeval “ , the producers of the “ Quiet place” films of that program royalties for creature design. Lol.
The Quiet Place creatures are very similar to the Future Predators of Primeval.

    Galligan Talks “Gremlins 3” Possibility

    Warner Bros. Pictures

Original “Gremlins” star Zach Galligan played Billy Peltzer in Joe Dante’s iconic 1984 horror comedy and the other day offered an update on a possible third outing.

Warner Bros. Pictures released the sequel “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” in 1990 but since then have had little success with continuing the franchise bar the recent animated prequel series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”.

That show was ordered with two seasons to be produced and follows the story of how ten-year-old Sam Wing met Gizmo, a young Mogwai.

The show launched May 2023 on Max to superb reviews, though no word as yet when the second season will air. Speaking with Screen Rant, Galligan says Warners likely sees the show as a test bed for audience interest in a third film:

“I can’t really figure out why Warner Bros. would do two seasons – not one, but two seasons – of the animated series, and spend a lot of money on it, unless there was some kind of endgame. And usually the endgame for a huge studio like Warner Bros. Discovery is a live-action film.

A live-action film is always where you’re going to make the most money. Super Mario Bros. just proved that . . . the endgame probably will be, I’m hoping, a third film. I don’t think it’ll be a reboot, though, because Chris Columbus has nixed that idea. He owns part of the rights.”

Back in 2017, Columbus revealed a script for a third film had been finished but sadly no further progress was made. The now 59-year-old Galligan remains one of the franchise’s biggest cheerleaders, appearing in commercials and podcasts in recent years involving the critters.

I like see Ana De Armas as daughter of two from earlier movies and mabey Daniel Radcliffe as her boyfriend.

    Cameron Already Mulling “Avatar” 6 & 7

Filmmaker James Cameron says he already has ideas in place for sixth and seventh entries in the “Avatar” franchise – even as he still has three more films to complete first.

Appearing at the 51st Saturn Awards this weekend, the famed filmmaker spoke with a number of outlets – including People Magazine – where he revealed that the proposed fifth film in the series may not be the end.

As posted last night, Cameron is in post-production on the third film, with some pick-up shooting taking place in June this year ahead of a December 2025 release.

A fourth film is 25% shot and everything is on track for it to release in 2029 and a fifth in 2031. Now, he tells this outlet that writing-wise the five films are completely done and he’s already generating ideas for more:

“We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point. I mean, mortality catches up. But I mean, we’re enjoying what we’re doing. We’re loving it. We get to work with great people.”

He adds that he intends to keep working on this franchise as he sees no point in dropping it because it’s a property people have connected with, drawing comparisons to “Star Wars” and “Star Trek”.

DP3 was so on the nose nose I still laughed. Best thing Disney have done in years that trailer. Deadpool & Wolverine will be stand alone greatness.

    Avoid spoilers a all costs.

Wicked and Fall Guy look bad.

He doesn't know when to quit, and he shouldn't when he's still delivering. I do love that he's going from a sequel to the beloved Gladiator after all these years to a Bee Gees biopic. I can't wait for both.

At least Ridley Scott tries new things. He doesn’t always succeed, but he at least tries to be different. He deserves points for that. Several directors I know can’t say the same “cough” James Cameron “cough” Spike Lee “cough” Woody Allen “cough.”

I miss pre-Titanic Cameron so much x( if he never went for that and the Avatar universe, he surely would have gone down as one of my all-timers.
