Fixing die another day

Die another day is universally considered terrible, for good reasons, but I think that there were some genuinely good ideas that were wasted in it, and the plot concept is very good actually in my opinion, just poorly executed. So post ideas on how it could have been much better.

1st of all, different director. I think maybe Martin Campbell?
2nd- remove all overt stupid references to previous films
3rd- remove the ice palace
4th-new title song/singer
5th- no bad cgi
6th- make plot about nuclear holocaust instead of sun beam thing
7th- Daniel Craig as bond? I think the beginning of this film plus personal vendetta warrant a bit of a darker approach, maybe Craig would have been better in this movie?
