All I’m saying is that when a guy is beating the crap out of someone I find that more believable than when a woman does it. Again, how many women are Navy Seals?

And as for the argument that it’s fantasy and make-believe it was Fleming who wrote this “fantasy” and he created 007 to be a white straight male. Not a black woman. Or any other permutation. It’s as simple as that. So Lashana being a fellow agent is one thing but being 007??? That’s a big NO-NO!! Just like there’s not a white female John Shaft.

Because woman are restricted from certain military roles, eventhough we are just as capable.

It's all this issue of replacing stuff that are recognizable to male franchises like the 007 logo or the DB5 to female roles they are so tied that when someone male or female else has in it won't sit right and general audiences get confused look at men in black as an example you have men in black as the title and you have a man and a woman on the cover. Wonder Women trailer just came out and you don't see the man taking things. I don't know it will all straighten its self out hopefully. As M says in License to Kill its thier mess have them deal with it. Probably got the qoute wrong. If we had nomi as 009 a continuation from Spectre that makes sense we wouldn't have this but no.

How many women have been President? Therefore, we should never have a female President? Ridiculous.

Just a thought about maleks character.

IMO He is the one who Madeline talks about on the train in spectre. The man in the mask has skin disease or whatever and later Malek clearly has scarring, like acne.

That would be maybe a twenty year gap. Is there a possibility Malek is using genetics to prolong his own life. Or even make clones of himself. (I don’t like the last idea so much feels a bit Die Another Day)

    “My skills will live on...”

This seems to play into that idea too.

I think the cloning hypothesis was generated by questions about who the girl is in the opening ice lake scenes. But I think we are all certain now that the girl is indeed a young Madeleine and the opening is simply set some 20 years or so in the past. And so I suspect, no cloning, but Malek is exploiting genetics to prolong his life and also for another much bigger scheme, hence his line, "My skills will live on..."

That makes a lot of sense and would be very Peter Thiel (Halcyon):

@echo what? Where did politics come in you can't apply one thing to everything. The president and Bond are too different things this is about marketing a film and direction of a franchise. Bond being so tied to 007 like aligning the Aston Martin to Bond because that's (the only number he's had and nobody else and no one else should like wonder woman's suit) and too a mostly male audience and as a male character vs the president is a job like m where you can have men and women. This about a franchise not a political office. Sure let's just boot Bond out and call it the Nomi franchise now because so we can all pat ourselves on the back to say see look at us we are championing women at the expense of men cheers comrades feel better now everyone can stop ridiculing us for being snobby white male grossness women are the future all men need to die. ;) if it's just a plot point and only for this film I'm good. I liked the trailer by the way. @TripAces says it best with the comments.

    This.
I have said it before and going to say it again we should wait for April, then all the criticism can be done in a fair manner. Reaching to the conclusion with just a trailer is not cool. As @00Agent said bond may have a comeback in that scene with Nomi which may make it more interesting.

I couldn't agree more @Resurrection why some people get so worked up and argumentative about what's been seen or heard in a trailer is beyond me.
When April 2020 comes around, that's when you can complain, or rejoice.
Till we've all seen the movie, the arguing is pointless.
    Play nice peeps. Please. ;)

I will gladly wait until the film comes out to pass judgment. I don't want to spoil the build up especially with the gap of 4 1/2 years between movies.

At least he didn't say he prefers the Bond women when they look like porno.

I do wonder about some peoples perceptions of women in general. The idea that a woman couldn't credibly kick a mans arse is somewhat ridiculous if they have skills.

Also if Nomi was played by Ana then I could see this being a credible argument but Lynch has a much more statuesque physique and I think could look much more convincing taking out some men during the film.

    So why not?

You get kicked in the nuts, you aren't getting up too quickly.

I agree. But ironically I don’t think anyone would have an issue if it was Ana. She’s the one who acrobatically nails a bloke in trailer, but Lynch is the one getting the grief. We know why.
The only thing we know for sure right now is that the ability to discuss opinions in a reasonable fashion is out for a walk. A long one it seems.

Well there’s only one person here using the phrase ‘case closed’ and it certainly isn’t me, so perhaps you should direct your concerns at them.
What I mean is that no matter what opinion, a lot of people in this thread totally overreact and immediately categorize people and things in very unreasonable ways. Not you necessarily, I´m not adressing everyone, so perhaps I´m as much guilty of unqualified categorizing. But cool heads seem in the minority sometimes. Recently in this thread most people interpret blindly things into other people´s posts, as if certain topics would trigger a traumatic reaction in them. I was merely answering to your post specifically because I found the choice of words ironic ;-).

Five days later-- I'm still having excited chills about this trailer.
Have to say, they really should've released a proper teaser a month or two back. It was a bit jarring going from knowing nothing and seeing no footage to seeing/knowing a lot in the span of two minutes. A build up in marketing would've been more effective in creating hype around the film. That said, the footage itself is fantastic.
Would it though? I for my part keep coming back to the trailer, because every now and then some new detail flashes in my head, and I want to see again what it was. I find that very effective marketing.
This applies by the way to Nomi too. I´m not quite keen on her yet, but since the trailer teases me to look at it again every now and then I am likely to get a more rounded perspective on everything.
If you get something to eat only once a month, you´re going to digest it much more thorough ;-).

    1. I am not a big fan of women kicking butt in Bond films.

    2. Which is quite strange because I absolutely love tough and strong women in other movies and fiction. Modesty Blaise is my favourite fictional character after James Bond.

But for some inexplicable reason, I don't particularly like having such women in Bond movies, so don't be too quick to label people as sexist or racist for not expressing huge enthusiasm for Nomi and Paloma.
    +1

@boldfinger does have a point excluding that comeback any sort other opinion does get ridiculed but that's not for me to sort out that's the moderators jobs. Wasn't trying to throw the moderators under the bus though.

Perhaps people should think about how they articulate things. A lot of and bluster about nothing as far as I can see.
    Good point.

The focus should be on having fun saying what one thinks about the topic at hand, not what one judges the other to be based on what he or she thinks. And if somebody else writes his or her opinion in a way that seems inappropriate, it usually isn´t constructive to react in like manner. Reasonable explanation goes a long way.

I'm with you @RC7 -- that brief establishing shot. The BLAST of music and the REV of the DB5 and then Bond's intense face as he grips the wheel and takes a peek into the rearview mirror. In that two second span, it's everything I want in Bond, lol.

And yes, I think Bond is up a certain creek without a paddle by the time we see him in Safin's lair... Fukunaga isn't afraid to go to dark places. It will be no different for Mr. Bond in this adventure.

Lynch looks and sounds great in trailer. Get the idea she a bit like Pam and that both going on a mission aka Dr No and comments in trailers are made very clear she is woman with balls like Pam and Triple X.

Blofeld is not bold yet because there must something happen first what make him losing his hair and face (so there can do recasting)

It be cool if Blofeld lost all his hair at the end and what happened to his cat?

His cat got killed in the blast when the watch exploded.

To the person who claimed women are just as capable as men regarding the military, please don't embarass yourself. Time and time again it has been proven it's not the case, just like it isn't allowed for female UFC fighters to fight male UFC fighters. They simply would get annihilated. Thanks bro,
I think people are worried about an unbalanced powerplay here. And a powerplay it is and always has been when Bond meets smart and capable women, and that is completely normal and nothing out of the ordinary.

I think the real worry is that the movie will favour one over the other, which is a ridiculous assumption and has more to do with current hollywood trends than it has to do with the Bond franchise which has been doing that sort of thing for decades already. At the end of the day, Bond is still the hero of this story.

Though i won't deny that EoN seems to play a bit with our expectations by cutting the trailer the way they did.

But on the other hand, one only needs to look at the scene where Bond and Nomi walk down the hallway at Mi6, with Moneypenny saying "i knew you two would get along". It's not like MP is saying, "F*** you Bond, we girls run this place now. Whoohooo".

Does it look like Bond is phased by Nomi? Or submissive? And he's been gone from MI6 for 5 years, while Nomi is possibly the new star agent there.

Bond is a legend though. And must be even to a gal like Nomi. If anything i'm getting vibes that she might be trying to impress him or win his respect in the long run.

As for the bullet to the knee line, that everyone is whining about now, that's just a slightly more exagerated version of Fields saying "If you attempt to flee, I will arrest you, drop you off in jail and take you to the plane in chains." And look how that turned out.

If anything, knowing Bond he would probably get turned on by Nomi's threat, thinking "here's a woman that pretends i can't have her."

Also, as i said earlier, i was struggling to find what's so unique about Nomi, because she's just an amalgamation of every agent and femme fatale that Bond has ever met. But i figured out what it is, and it's just the fact that she has the same relationships and resources that Bond has. She get's to talk to Moneypenny, she get's to quip with Q and she will get mission briefings with M... and that's pretty much it as far as uniqueness goes (judging from the trailer of course)

But i am more interested in seeing how those interactions will go, as for the interactions with Bond i can pretty much figure where those will go by myself.

And Vesper was totally ripping him apart in the train scene, when they first met.
And we still love that scene, and their whole relationship because Bond always remains ona-top of things and knows how to reply in equal measure, or just stay cool and unphased.

He loves that sort of verbal sparring.
Also the way Nomi delivered the line, did not sound like a threat-threat at all, especially the "the one that works" at the end... and what the hell is she doing in his apartment in the first place, sitting on his bed lol? :))
We know he must have been trying to hit on her in the bar.

I wonder why she's in Jamaica at all.

Well according to this article, there are women deployed in SOF units.
This has nothing to do with the discussion as a whole, however it does prove that women are capable of doing things only a decade or so ago, would be impossible. That's progress for you.
Let's leave it at that. Thanks.

My guess is that she is there on the same lead that Leiter (and maybe Paloma) are on. For whatever reason, Leiter is more comfortable asking for Bond's help than going straight to MI6, which may be why there is tension between Bond and Nomi. But that lead/case, which was perhaps something simple (following someone or looking into a missing person) becomes far more serious. There has been speculation that people drop dead in the night club scene. That might be the moment when the film suddenly shifts gears.

How much of the military do you think involves hand-to-hand combat? Technology and weaponry have taken "upper body strength" out of the equation. I would never say "never" in terms of a woman making it as a Navy Seal. The day may come, but it will be a rarity. However, as Bond films have been pointing out, in a terrific bit of social commentary: most of that work is now done at a computer desk in one's pajamas.

Please. ;)

@Resurrection @Benny @00Agent though sometimes I feel this way what I meant by expense I meant put them out because they are male and no other reason should have been more clear anyway I was just blowing things up to get people talking. I know it's just a trailer.

I wonder in what order the locations will play in the film? Has anyone got any ideas?

Also what is this talk about Russia being in the film? I've heard Norway and or Scotland are doubling for Russia?

It’s all got to do with the cars licence plates. Most are Russian. I’d wager it’s Siberia for the looks of it.

To the person who claimed women are just as capable as men regarding the military, please don't embarass yourself. Time and time again it has been proven it's not the case, just like it isn't allowed for female UFC fighters to fight male UFC fighters. They simply would get annihilated. An average man has 45-60% more upper body strength than an average female, that's biology for you. Men and women largely consist of different muscle fibers, also biology.

There will never be a female navy seal, due to biology and if one will it'll be most likely a one time affair.

Well according to this article, there are women deployed in SOF units.
This has nothing to do with the discussion as a whole, however it does prove that women are capable of doing things only a decade or so ago, would be impossible. That's progress for you.
Let's leave it at that. Thanks.

That article doesn't apply to what I stated. Until this day there are zero women part of the Navy seals.

James Bond was also not part of the Navy Seals.

    Back on topic, please. Cheers.

Perhaps the scenes filmed in Maratea by the black beach will feature our heroes landing by boat in some vulcanic dark rocky Japanese shores...

Japan was revealed as a film location recently. Don’t know about how trusty that source is but Safin having (and wearing) a collection of Japanese No masks, hiding in a liar with Japanese elements, Japan being so close to Siberia, scenes filmed in vulcanic shores in Maratea that 100% come from the third act, knowing how Fleming basically wrapped the SPECTRE/Bond story in YOLT all seem to me as strong indications...
  • That may explain Rami Malek's kimono and the bonsaï. Even without "Shatterhand" the new villain may be riff on the famous Blofeld alias.

Who knows, maybe the blast burned the cat´s fur and we´ll see the cat bald for a change ;-).

Could be the region of Sakhalin, which is immediately north of Hokkaido and has similar scenery to Norway and Scotland. Something like the Atlantic Road could not possibly exist there though.

All the Japanese elements noted so far, plus Fukunaga's influence, Craig wanting to wrap up his tenure on a high Flemingian note... there are a lot of things here pointing to a YOLT-like finish, except with Safin and his genetic modification scheme instead of Shatterhand and his garden of death.

if iam right i also have seen a computer making 3D print from him self.

exactly.. she is very much the 2020 equivalent to Anya Amasova, Holly Goodhead, Pam Bouvier.. and even extensions of characters like Jinx or Camielle.. the point of contention, that most can't seem to get beyond is the fact that she is 007... i find it hilarious that some still are going as far as to still say she is "Jane Bond" - as if Craig were not in the movie (even though he clearly is) and that she is taking over the main role of the films from here on out ~X( ...... it's these special individuals that really grind my gears.

I can't believe how "off the rails" this discussion has gone.

It does not matter what Nomi's 00 is. Even if she is at first a new "007" we know that it will quickly be reclaimed. There is no way EON is going to separate "James Bond" from "007." The 007 logo was right there, on the first marketing poster. It is 007.com that is the "home" of James Bond.

James Bond is 007. Always was, always has been, always will be.

i want to marry this comment..... thank you @TripAces

To be fair, we don’t really know that. I think it’s just as likely that she remains 007 for the majority of the film (or it’s entirety), especially with all the talk of shock and surprise and the certainty that this is Craig’s last outing. Yes, the 007 brand has always been associated with James Bond and will continue to be for promotional purposes but I don’t think that means anything as far as the narrative of this film is concerned. Especially if it’s a one off and that particular development is meant to be a surprise.

That being said, there’s no way EON will have Nomi’s 007 as the main character in Bond 26. Barbara Broccoli has said herself that Bond is and will be a man. Wrapping up the Craig arc in NTTD and rebooting with a new James Bond 007 in the next instalment seems to be the obvious path.

True. Perhaps it's safe to assume that some of the more outrageous and angry comments on this forum don't stem from the idea that Nomi is 007 at the start of the film but the fear that she'll be 007 at the end of the film?

Thank you!!! Very obvious things if you ask me. That’s why in the school yard boys typically don’t have fistfights with girls. Boys fight boys. Girls fight girls. There IS a difference.
