I would be in favour of the next Bond having a new sidearm. In fact, I would be ok with the next Bond stepping away from Walther alltogether. Bond broke up with Aston Martin, for a brief affair with Lotus, before reuniting with Aston.

The SAS currently use the Sig Sauer P226 / P228 and the Glock 17 / 19. If Bond is now supposed to be former SAS, then then I would suggest either of those.

If Bond gets a new pistol, it would be awquard if it was a thirty year old model, even if those models may have proven their quality.

I don't see how it could be awkward, when both the Sigs and Glocks are newer designs than the mid-30's created PPK. Unless Bond goes back to using the P99.

I'd love if Bond used a Walther P5 again.

I don´t get your point about the Sigs and Glocks being newer designs, but I acknowledge your point about the PPK being already over 30 years old by the time it was introduced in the first Bond film.

If I think about it, if Bond gets a new sidearm, it should be something with an exotic and maybe slightly difficult to pronounce name.

@Murdock, when did Bond use the Walther P5? I can´t remember seeing it in any film. Would of course be a good excuse as any to watch all the films again.

@boldfinger he uses it in Octopussy but he still calls it a PPK. He's also seen holding one in NSNA but he never gets a chance to use it. And lastly in LTK Dario puts one against Bond's back when he recognizes him at the drug lab.

Well they're more modern, right? Wouldn't it make more sense for Bond to use something more modern, especially if this Bond is former SAS. Why would MI6 still issue it's agents with a gun designed before WW2? If im not mistaken, thought I might be, the PP on which the PPK is developed from, is from the late 20's!

I am not too concerned about the name, as I am about it's suitability.

Seems like I really have to re-watch them films asap. I feel like a blind fish.

The Walther PP, which IINM is basically the same as the PPK only slightly bigger, was built from 1929 on. It would make sense for Bond IMO because of its iconographic value after all those years. And it makes sense that James Bond wears a small gun. I can´t immediately think of a 9mm x 19 caliber gun that would fit inside a business suit as snug as a PPK.
Aside from iconography I would find a fancy explanation most compelling, just like the PPK itself was introduced with "a delivery like a brick through plate glass" or something like that. Not realistically a reasonable thing to say probably about such a small caliber, but it sounded impressive.

Now days, there's no shortage of 9mm pistols that are comparable (and even superior) to the PPK. For example, here a few:

When it comes to aesthetics and iconic status, the PPK is very difficult to beat. However, when it comes to practicality, its easy to beat.

@Seven_Point_Six_Five, no objections, as long as the introduction of the gun is celebrated by the accompaniment of silly tech talk ;-).

That’s what I want too. Maybe it’s just the gun enthusiast in me, but I’d love to hear Bond talking tools of the trade with Q.

Walther arm have come up with new Pistol Q5 Yes option you get 17 rounds in handgun so forget Glock. I hope Special task force including Special branch can get to use this gun.

Don't expect James Bond till his next face comes to use this gun still using the classic Walther PPK. Think reality. How Law enforcement in the world use Walther guns. I glad Van Der Valk reboot they use Walther pistol except PPK.

Walther has release their new 2021 handgun that can rival Glock & Beretta. New Walther PDP 9mm will be let hope best ever powerful semi automatic gun. Forget James Bond use this gun or just let him stick with original Classic Walther PPK which he had been using all this time. You can get 15 & 18 rounds. You wish your local Law enforcement & elite squads should swap Glocks for this new powerful Walther PDP.

I leave you to judge should our law elite forces should switch to Walther handguns. I would love to use a Walther gun either P99,PPQ or this new PDP 9mm

Very modern. I'd pretty much always want to see the PPK or PPK/S, this would also be welcome for assault mode.

I like the compact. I've enjoyed seeing Bond use different Walthers over the years. Maybe they could include this one in the new game, with the option of red dot.

I would not be against Bond adopting the PDP as his sidearm going forwards. It's about time that the PPK was retired (the DB5 as well).

I'm not a fan of the PDP. Looks too much like a generic run of the mill Walmart BB gun. There's no grace or elegance in it's design unlike the PPK or Gen 1 P99 before they made a mess of it in future versions of it.

a few pistols I'd love to see Bond use would be the previously mentioned

    Walther P5.

I agree. No use of that classic Walther PPK today. Update to new Walther. & my comment for Walther guns brand well it about elite force Australia U.K including some U.S elite force should use Walther guns besides Glocks. If I was in the Elite Law officer I would rather use Walther Berretta Sig or S&W guns

Or a Glock, they produce a compact sidearm.

Walther arms has released a new pistol PD380 with 9 rounds more twice as powerful than the old PPK . could be great to be to replaced James Bond old PPK?
waltherarms.com/pd380 What do think of this new Walther hand gun & is good for new James Bond 007

It's better looking that some of the more recent efforts Walther has put out but Bond and the PPK go hand and hand. It can't really be replaced as outdated as it might be.

Similar to modern Walther models including the PPQ.

This or the P99 are fine for assault mode.

But should not absolutely replace the PPK or PPK/S, a more beautiful firearm and Bond's signature handgun. Simply better in a casino or other refined surroundings.

I'm no gun expert but it looks a lot like the Walther P99 that Bond used to use in the Brosnan films. I'm sure that something similar to that would be fine. However, I agree with the esteemed members above that Bond's signature gun is of course the Walther PPK and he should continue to carry and use that as well.

Bond should always return to the PPK, but I like the idea of him carrying a different Walther sidearm for most of his era. Particularly if it's smaller. The PD380 is about 16cm long, so a good little size for concealment. From memory, Craig thought the P99 was too big (18cm+), reason why they went back to the PPK for QOS.

In my dream Bond film, he would use an LP53 for just one scene, a bit like how Roger packed the nickel-plated revolver when he returned to San Monique. It was unusual, but it turned out to be an iconic look. We've seen Connery holding an LP53 in the FRWL photoshoots and I think Roger is holding one in the illustrations of his early promos - on the poster, toy packaging etc.

I think it would be fun and a nice nod to those moments to see him pull the LP53 out or even take it from a henchman.

But the Walther LP53 is still an air pistol. People will talk.

Still it would be nice in publicity shots like you said.

It's always useful for shooting rats. Bond could've done with having one in FRWL, which was ironically what that iconic Bond photo with the Walther LP53 was taken for.

Movie magic, @RichardTheBruce! Let the firearm experts pick it apart like they do every other film.

"It reads better than it lives." That line from the end of DAF comes to mind, but I suppose that applies to much of Bond's fantasy world.
