Actors Who Could Have Played Bond Villains

edited April 2011 in Bond Movies Posts: 116
Let's play "what if" & imagine actors who could have played original Bond baddies!

1960's:

Peter Ustinov
Rod Steiger
James Mason
Peter O'toole
Peter Cushing
Marlon Brando
Julie Christie (c'mon, how cool would this have been?)

1970's

William Shatner
David Bowie
Leonard Nimoy
Malcolm McDowell
Omar Sharif
Liv Ullmann
Ricardo Montalban

1980's

John Hurt
Martin Landau
Patrick Stewart
David Warner
Roshan Seth
Ben Kingsley
Maximilian Schell
Max Von Sydow

Just some ideas, how about yours?

This did happen in a non-official way. ;)

I would say Vincent Price, James Mason, Alan Rickman, Anthony Hopkins, Yul Brynner(as Blofeld), James Coburn(Flint vs. Bond. How cool that would've been back in the day).

Klaus Kinski (As Blofeld - About 1980)
    Udo Kier (2000's)
Elke Sommer & Virna Lisi (Think Sommer and Koscina in DTTM - 1960's)
    Anthony Hopkins (1990's)
Anthony Perkins & Michael Berryman (As Sluggsy & Horror - 1970's)
Richard Burton (As a Stromberg type villain - 1970's)

Ha ha ha! I guess I've blotted NS out of my memory! Lol.

Rutger Hauer and Richard Burton were on my mental list & I forgot to put them down; Haur, especially, would be great -- even now! Yul Brynner's inspired & so is James Coburn, maybe as baddie & henchman?

Good ones, guys, keep 'em coming...

Nice idea for a thread - here's a slew more from me...

    Laurence Olivier
    Terence Stamp
    Gerard Depardieu
    Marcello Mastroianni
    Robert Helpmann
    Jack Hawkins
    Hugh Griffith
    Rex Harrison
    Richard Harris
    David Hemmings
    Paul Freeman
    Michael Gambon
    Christopher Plummer
    Richard Chamberlain
    Anil Kapoor

One or two of these could still feature as a Bond nemesis, of course...

Well i always thought Burgess Meredith (Batman The Penguin fame) was a great actor of his time.

He probably could have fitted in 60's/70's era.

Also British actor Gareth Marks was an excellent mastermind villain in BBC BUGS series where he played Blofeld wannabe Jean Daniel.

Only have two other suggestions thery are Brian Cox & Jason Issacs. Both have villain potiential.

Brian Cox was one actor I suggested on a forum as a good Le Chiffre back in 05. Too bad he was a Bourne bad guy as I would have loved him in a Bond film.

so far all the villains in the Bond films have been Men and Women have played 2nd fiddle as the henchwoman/hired killer in a few movies.

how about a woman as the main villain who wants to conquer the world or whatever that will require Bond to save the day?

They effectively had that in TWINE, didn't they...?

    Bump.
  • Anthony Hopkins was reportedly suppose play Alec Trevelyan in GE (and Elliot Carver in TND after 1995). It's a shame really - both parts were quite bland scriptwise, but Hopkins' presence and composure alone could've made one of the most memorable baddies in the franchise.
  • That guy who is a villain in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL who also played michael blomkvist in swedish version of the girl with dragon tattoo whom Danny had have also played it in hollywood version is just great! Blomkvist VS. Blomkvist. Awesome!!!!

I actually think that Anthony Zerbe LTK fame could have been a contender for main villain role.

He was okay as Krest but again as one of the old school actors he deserved a better script.

Jack Palance I believe was considered for Scaramanga before Mr Lee came on board.

Ian McDiarmid Star Wars fame again a name to fear regarding his Emperor role.
  • Ben Kingsley would still make a good Bond villian. Also a shame Peter Cushing never got the chance. Such an underrated actor.

    Jon Voight
John Travolta (he plays such great villians)
    Glenn Close
Denzil Washington (like Travolta he has a wide range and would be Bond's equal in a fistfight)
