    Quantum of Solace.
Better performance, the best Bond, better idea.
And Strawberry Fields is faarr better than Aki.

I am surprised how close this is for me, tought to decide. But I'm going with QOS, mainly due to Craig's performance, some satisfying scenes, and a great ending. I enjoy it more than YOLT to be honest.
  • Quantum of Solace was a big disappointment. I loved the opera scene but aside from that, I left the cinema with that ghastly (for me) Licence To Kill feeling in the pit of my stomach. I've given it several viewings since, but it doesn't seem to grow on me at all.

You Only Live Twice has its faults, but it also has: Connery, Ken Adam's most outrageous set, John Barry, and an on-form Lewis Gilbert.

Quite an easy one for me:

    You Only Live Twice

QoS-Good bond performence with Craig, loved the opera scene and the bar scene with felix.

YOLT dragged alittle IMO but was still entertaining but QoS had a better pace.

Sean Connery, Nancy Sinatra singing a beautifully and catchy tune, "Little Nelly" helicopter battle, ninja assault on Blofeld's volcano compound. YOLT.

Ah the days of classic assaults on the baddy base with local allies. Wonderful. YOLT is one of my top ten. QoS os my favourite from the last 25 years though - best Bond since TLD IMO.

QOS is my least favourite out of all 22 films. I like some of it and Craig is good, but I just don't get that Bond feeling I get from all the other films, and Craig is not on the same level as he was in CR.

So I'm voting for YOLT. Better locations, much, much better villian (my favourite Blofeld, and my 2nd favourite villian overall), better action, and better Bond. There's some bad moments (japanese Connery), but there is with every Bond film. Connery might've been bored, but it doesn't show. The finale is amazing, there's ninjas, a really fun, memorable Bond film that has all the great classic elements.

QoS is very flawed indeed. However, I've never been too much of a fan of YOLT. As iconic as it is (the volcano, Little Nellie, Donald Pleasence), I could never get into it as much as all the others from that era. Perhaps it's Connery's bored performance that does it in for me. There's just something missing.

So editing and script flaws and all, I still pick Quantum of Solace.

Get ready for a shock folks: QoS

You are probably saying to yourself "WHAT? But Brady, YOLT has Connery, and you said Connery is always a big factor in your v.s. decisions". Yes, I know I said that, but with YOLT I don't get the same fervor from Sean as in say FRWL or DN. His desire to play Bond lessened more in DAF, when only a paycheck for charity drew him back. QoS is a much deeper film, and pulls no punches. The fights are intense, fast, and brutal, the drama is great, especially in the scene of Bond and Mathis on the plane, Mathis's death, the final scene with Greene, and the absolutely brilliant ending with Yusef. QoS beats YOLT in far more areas than it loses, and though Sean is amazing, I don't feel his heart in it. Dan is dedicated to the role first and foremost.

Agree 100% QoS for me as well. Plus I love the opera scene. Very Bond.

OH, how could I forget! Thanks @Volante for picking up my slack.

This was a tuff one but I'll have to go with YOLT. Despite it's sillyness, and the fact that Sean is starting to look too old to be Bond in it, YOLT is a classic Bond movie, if only for Tiger and Blofeld, and Sean as Bond. Though I do like QOS, it was too much of a let-down after CR. It was close to being a great Bond movie but the rushed ending let's the whole movie down.

QOS suffers a lot from people treating it as a standalone film rather than a companion piece to CR.

@ SIR SEAN- what did you feel was rushed about the ending of QOS? Granted the whole movie is too short and laden with plot holes regarding the minor characters, but I thought the ending with Kabira and M ranks as one of the best in the entire series. Craig is absolutely Bond as we know him in those scenes. Lessons learned. That demeanor plus a lot more fun is what I expect we're going to see come late October/early November.

I am a QoS fan but the end is very weak. A total rip off of Bourne 2.

How so? It's completely bloody different. Bourne goes to apologize to the daughter, and Bond goes to confront Yusef, who was the one who needed to apologize. There is no similarity to it at all, and I am beginning to believe some people here get off on making Bond/Bourne comparisons, especially in regards to QoS, where I am sick of hearing them.

I like QOS but find the climax in the desert hotel to be disappointing. The Medrano/Camille duel I dislike and Medrano's attempt to rape a girl is IMO not appropriate for Bond. This against the IMO best climax of the series: the one in the volcano in YOLT. Easy winner.

How is the raping inappropriate? We hit that benchmark in LTK. It shows just how evil Medrano was and how much he needed to be put down like a rabid dog.

Well, I guess compared to murder raping isn't that bad, and murder in Bond movies is ok in my book. I don't know why, but everytime I see that I just think they crossed the line. And yes I agree about your last statement. But I think I find raping too mean to be seen in a Bond film. They could have implied it instead.

It set the character up to be the villain though, and it is very modern and happens a lot. It is the sad reality of the world that we live in, and it will be just as haunting whether it is said outright or implied. If so much more like killing, smoking, and drinking is thrown into the films, including allusions to lesbianism, why not rape? Granted, rape is more vindictive than murder. It is the ravaged taking of innocence, and the victim has to live with the wounds for the rest of their lives.

Well it didn't really NEED to be there. We get it. Medrano was nasty! At least Della's rape (and murder) was offscreen.

I agree. Della's rape and murder has never offended me. But the way it was filmed in QOS (I mean, we can almost see her va"""") is too much for me. I know the world might be this horrid, but why show it on screen? I'd rather have a lighter movie like YOLT than something I can see on the news.

Medrano's raping of Camille's mother and sister was offscreen too, and he never raped the maid/woman at the hotel.

I agree completely. Furthermore, when Camille tells Bond of what Medrano did to her mother and sister, it sets the seeds for the audience of just what a vile individual this guy is. So when we see the attempt with the waitress later, it's just the payoff, but it's that much more powerful because of what we already know.

And we see the value in Camille's revenge. It is weird though. The whole revenge tale isn't even Bond's. It is mostly Camille's, and neither find solace, even the tiniest bit, as the film nears its end. And Bond's remark that "I don't think the dead care about vengeance", and his reference to Vesper (she wouldn't want me to) in regards to his chance to get revenge shows that Bond realizes death won't bring the dead back, and they wouldn't want to be avenged. And in that belief is where I feel Bond finds his solace, no matter how small.

All true, including your comment on Bond's solace and the ultimate meaning of the word. I am amazed at how intelligent and insightful you are for such a young fan, and have great respect for your opinions even when I might disagree a little bit. Getafix as a result, is mistaken in his reference but welcome to his opinion should he reform that thought based on his mistake. Craig is just what Bond should be in an interrogation such as this, sympathetic to Corrine but deadly serious with Kabira, who is all but wetting his trousers thinking Bond is going to kill him over Vesper and knowing that there's no way out of this. Such a presence as Bond hasn't been seen since the TLD Pushkin interrogation, an absolutely commanding and magnificent performance and then we finally see him assume the professional demeanor that M expects him to have. Lessons learned.

    I am also totally sick of the Bourne comparisons as well. Hopefully come November, we won't hear any more but there will always be those so biased and half witted that they can't come up with anything meaningful or original 8-}

    Dr.No vs. Casino Royale

    License to Kill vs. Goldeneye

This is one of the reasons why I do give thumbs up to Quantum of Solace. It has flaws for sure, but once you get past the misguided editing and rushed script, it's quite clear that there lies a great Bond film underneath it all.
