does this mean the British subjects get to take the day off work today?
Palace accounts also showed that the Queen dipped into a reserve fund to boost her Civil List by £6 million.
This is the highest amount ever drawn from the reserve which comes from surplus Civil List money accumulated in the 1990s.
The total cost of the Queen's Civil List - which pays for the running of the Royal Household including staff salaries - was £13.9 million in 2008.
It was made up of £7.9 million from the Government and £6 million from the reserve.
The boost from the reserve accounted for 43% of the total.
This prompts speculation as to how much the Queen will ask the Government to increase the Civil List by when the current financial deal runs out in December 2010.
If she continues drawing on the reserve at the current rate, she will run out of funds by the start of 2012 - the year of her Diamond Jubilee.
The pot of money has gone down from £35 million to £21 million over the last decade.
The current deal - in which the Queen gets £7.9 million a year - was agreed by Sir John Major in 1990.
Personally, I'm not particularly a royalist at all, but then neither am I a republicanist. I mean, right now and looking back, which of our Prime Ministers would the majority of us have really have put up with as a head of state? Churchill, probably. Gladstone, perhaps. Anyone else? I mean, anyone else really...? ;)
We learn where my priorities lie: Dallas Mavericks basketball > the royal wedding.
I'm much more excited about my home team going to the second round of the playoffs than any wedding....
The Queen is fab figure head, I met her and Anne when it was her silver jubilee; she was a governor of my old school. She was fantastic. And I can only imagine the job she did with her sister to keep morale up during the dark days of the war.
But as for the other cousins twice removed etc. They can pay their way.
No tongues boo.
In other news, I can't help but wonder whether Wills married the right sister... :p

My old gaff, my dormitory is out of the picture but we met royal mum and daughter where those chaps are playing cricket. In terms of writing I like to have a bit of fun - loose and carefree one minute bruv and then serious and sombre the next innit?
'We hope you enjoyed watching the wedding that you paid for and weren't invited to, now run along to your street party like a good peasant.'

Makes you proud to be British and a little touch of OHMSS without the tragedy:

young people very much in love, and I genuinely wish the happy couple the very
best wishes on their big day and hope they have a long, happy and successful
marriage.
Me too.
I actually ended up watching a good part of it. I was bored to tears during the ceremony but I just felt that I should watch it because it's a moment in history. Couldn't have got through it though without a few brews though! LOL.
"Eh, I think Kate looks fantastic, @Bounine. Simple, classy looks."
Dress wise yes but in terms of her face I think she is only just above average in looks.
William driving the Aston was the best part of the whole affair for me. I just couldn't help thinking of OHMSS without the shooting of course.
I suppose there still partying at this moment.

Prince Charles: Seen its day, I'm afraid. You'll be driving my Aston Martin DB5 convertible, with modifications...now, you see this red button on the gear lever here? Whatever you do, don't touch it.
Prince William: Yeah? Why's that?
Prince Charles: Because you will engage and then fire the passenger ejector seat. Woosh!
Prince William: Ejector seat? You're joking.
Prince Charles: I never joke about my work, son. Had it installed after your mum hit me over the head with that wine bottle during the filming of The Living Daylights back in '87. Never used it of course...
This said, Kate (oops, sorry, that should be Her Royal Highness, now, right) looked positivvely gorgeous. BTW: the lace on her arms? French. Saw that on TV today.
Whoops.
this made the wedding genius.
