I think Campbell gave Brosnan's Bond a similar shot in GE when he entered the casino....only difference was, no Bond theme and Brosnan had a relaxed gait, since the card game was just a repartee between Bond and Onatopp....even if he was still dealing with a Villian.

Campbell definitely replayed that shot from GE in CR. Both times were when we saw each Bond inside a casino for the first time. Just uploaded this for fun:

I must say, Brosnan looks more *Bondian* by traditional standards. But it's undeniable that Craig has more swagger. That cheeky grin and hand in pocket. It's better than Brosnan's blank catwalk-model.

It's very interesting that both Campbell and Meheux emulated the shot from GE in CR. I have to say, the set in GE is far superior than the CR one....

I've also got to say that @TripAces is right, Craig's look in QOS is his best. I think Louise Frogley did the best costumes of the Craig era. I remember hearing that she was directly inspired by Steve McQueen...which works perfectly for Craig.

He never looked better than the Haiti scenes...

Also, Craig just suits looking roughed-up and bloody. Something that I think he appreciated, as he was covered in scars in CR, QOS and now NTTD. It looks as though Sam Mendes was of the opinion that Bond shouldn't look too battered.

    quantum-of-solace-751.png

I have to say that I also quite like the buzzcut he had in SF. It's certainly a departure - especially when you think of Connery's look back in the 1960's. Though I hazard that was most likely the *point*. It reminds me a little of Brad Pitt in Mr & Mrs Smith.

It's pretty edgy and iconalastic. Plus it suits his more militaristic and brutish style. I wouldn't have minded if they kept it. I know he was supposed to look a bit knackered with the stubble - and at times he does - but i like it...

It also helps that the suits in SF are the best that DC ever wore.

@Resurrection - I think people who complain about Craig's suits are folk who grew up with Moore or even Brosnan. They like more traditional tailoring.

Daniel Craig always wore his suits like a second skin. They fit so effortlessly on him. Plus, a suit is a deeply impractical thing to wear in an action sequence. It can look stiff and awkward. Nevertheless, Craig makes the suit look terrific in action. You can see his bulging muscles underneath it and he just looks cool. He's like a caged beast in a Tom Ford suit.

I think the suit he has in SF is his best in terms of tailoring. I have a preference to the SF suit as he spends half the movie in it and I prefer the skinny tie.

I never considered Craig's SF or SP suits as too tight. In fact, they look a little loose compared to what we've seen in men's fashion lately. Let's hope we never see Bond like this:

Wow, lots of white in his hair, and that right receding hairline has been gaining new ground. Mind you, age suits him well. He could very well do another one. But I say that about Dalton too, so... One thing is for certain, Craig now looks the coolest he's ever looked.

I actually don't think it's changed all that much. But I agree: still looks good.

    Thank the God's.
@Pierce2Daniel I grew up watching Craig's film's, also i am only 27 yet i still prefer suits which are neither too tight not too loose. While i agree with you that tight suits does helps when he is in action but there is no excuse for tight suits when bond is at mi6. Especially that Glen suit in SF which was way too overtight.

I think costume designer once said that Daniel is sort of mean bond, that's why they gave him a mean cut, simply put an overtight suit which reflect his bond's character.

Yeah I've always thought Brosnan looks incredibly tight and self-conscious in that shot; Craig is giving it the swagger of the character. Does he look like he gives a damn? He's just enjoying it. And Brosnan is the one who's supposed to be on holiday! :)
  • This was Daniel Craig's best look as Bond, however, it wasn't in a Bond film...

I think it simply has to do with Craig's hair, I guess. The longer his hair, the more Bondian he looks. I would have still liked them to leave his hair like the one from his unveiling, screentest and promotional pic as Bond.

Speaking about the promotional pic, it looks like it was dyed black, when they knew they'll shoot his Bond scenes as a Blonde....I still don't know why EON did that though.

I think that's just the lighting that made his hair appear darker. Otherwise it would be odd to dye his hair for promo photos but then restore it to his original hair color for the press conference.

Yeah I think they may even have slicked it back a bit too (was he shooting The Invasion around that time with slightly long hair?) and that always darkens blond hair.

Yup, he was in the middle of shooting THE INVASION at the time. IIRC, he had to wear a very unconvincing wig for reshoots of that film since he had chopped up his hair for CR.

I believe they asked Daniel Craig to dye his hair, but he refused. Instead, it was agreed that he'd cut it short to give it a more 'brutal' look.

I think that was actually a very good idea. It makes sense that Bond would have a more 'brutal' look. He's supposed to be a former special forces guy. No nonsense and tough. When he wears more casual clothes, it actually looks terrific. He looks young and a bit of a bad boy. But it doesn't quite translate in the middle of the film when Craig is supposed to be more elegant. I just think the spiky quiff looks wrong - but only at times - his hair varies throughout the casino scenes. For instance here, it looks terrific:

    Victory+dinner+with+Vesper.jpg

They pretty much nailed his Bond look in Spectre...albeit, Craig isn't as svelte as he was in CR. Just a tad more jowly. But he is a decade older after all.

    tumblr_pl0p5yc0Nf1wltejzo1_500.gif

Back before he was cast as Bond, he was always a bit of a scruff. I think it must have been the style in the mid 2000's. He always had an unkempt quality about it. I suppose it fed into his rough, man's man persona. Though he actually seems quite flamboyant and chatty in interviews.

I suppose Craig was trying to channel a nonchalant Steve McQueen essence of 'cool.' Minimal fuss.

One of my all time favourite looks for Craig was actually at this year's GG. He just looks good with age. There's something of an old mountain lion about his. Perhaps it's the eyes. He just looks mean yet refined. Something kinda rugged and intimidating. It's those eyes I think...I actually think he's channeling this look during the Cuba scenes of NTTD (though this is just a hunch, as I've obviously not seen that movie yet!!!)

    danielcraigGG.jpg

But my favourite look of Craig's was actually at the Golden Compass premiere....I think it's because he's a little thinner. But there does seem to be a phase in 2007 before filming QOS where DC was using mascara. I think we can't deny that something is up here.

Ooh look at those bootcut jeans for the Enduring Love photo. Chilling stuff.
  • That's quite a trip down memory lane there, @Pierce2Daniel! Bond has definitely impacted Craig's own style, it seems. Also goes to show that when EON is inspired by a true diamond-in-the-rough, they go all out to make the actor as comfortable and natural in the role as possible (see Young's impact on Connery as another example).

It has. In many cases, he has kept the clothes provided by the wardrobe department. I guess he's allowed to do so. Perfect example: here he is in the Bruno Cucinelli linen blazer from SP:

Is it really? Ha, that's fun. I did like that look a lot in Spectre.
I think Roger had the record for pilfering his own costumes: I love looking at the set photos on Thunderballs and seeing him wearing his costumes all the time when he wasn't filming!

I think it actually may be moreso the other way around, that Craig's personal style has influenced Bond's look on screen. I know a lot of what he has worn as Bond, particularly when it comes to casual wear has been based on his recommendations/designers from his personal wardrobe.

This may be a controversial opinion, but I'd rank Craig as the best dressed Bond, followed closely by Sean. In terms of suiting I'd say Skyfall takes the prize, the introduce of tab collars and narrower lapels with the Tom Ford O'Connor suit was a stroke of genius, IMO. A special mention goes to the dark brown mohair Tom Ford Regency suit in Quantum of Solace, although I think from a more "casual" Bond perspective both Quantum and Spectre excel.

I get a strong sense that No Time To Die is going to be another hit from a fashion perspective from what we've seen to date. The scoop suit from Massimo Alba is a personal favourite of mine and it's great to see them bringing back tab collars and the Tom Ford O'Connor suit for a third outing. I wear a tab collar every day for work and it's only due to Bond wearing them in Skyfall that I do.

Craig's influence in Bond's fashion choices is obvious. Craig is an avid fan of Henleys and now we seen Bond wearing a Rag & Bone Standard Issue Long Sleeve Henley as one of the main outfits in No Time To Die. Craig is often seen wearing Rag & Bone denim too, which appeared in Skyfall (or perhaps that was Acne denim, which he has also been seen wearing). These are only a couple of examples, but I agree that Craig's own personal style has been largely influenced by Bond, because prior to being appointed in the role, his fashion choices were questionable.

I feel that his hair is the best in Skyfall and that the short, almost military cut, suits his no-nonsense Bond. However, I am liking the look of it in No Time To Die.

Just ran into this short edit of DC as 007....It might just be too sexy. Damn......I enjoyed this immensely.

But there's something about Daniel Craig's Vanity Fair photoshoot with Annie Leibovitz that I seriously like. He just has such swagger and there's something really tough and intimidating there. I think the hair helps. It just shows that this isn't your 'Daddy's Bond'....He's a diamond in the rough, but with still has that innate suavity.

  • I was curious what people thought of Craig's tuxedo look in SF? It may well be my favourite when staked up with the others....I think the cut of the QOS tuxedo but the bowtie is dodgy. I think the white tuxedo could have perfect, but I can't put my finger on why it doesn't work. Maybe because Daniel feels modern as Bond and the white tuxedo feels like it belongs to the old days of 007. Maybe it's Daniel's hair. Who knows.

  • Suits were great in SF, it's the fitting which was the issue. It seems overly tight.

I don't understand this opinion. The suits in SF fit fantastically. If I could pull of that look, I'd wear it every day. Those Tom Ford suits are gorgeous. I get that they are very fitted. But isn't it the point that these are film costumes? The costume is supposed to make Bond look cool, edgy and bad-ass? If that's the point it succeeds.

Tom Ford has excelled himself with his work with Craig. If anything the suits in NTTD are his worst.

This suit from SF was iconic...

My take on why the white tuxedo doesn't quite work is because he's blond. As a fellow blonde / blue eye we find it incredibly difficult to pull off white or red. I believe the tuxedo isn't pure white but off white. My wedding dress was made the same and I was advised not to go with white because unless you have dark hair and a darker skin tone you end up getting washed out against it.

The other key is using blues to accentuate blue eyes. It really does work and it's a reason he looks great / pulls off blue exceptionally well. On the white suit it helps that Craig has a tan but I still think this may go some way to why it doesn't quite look right on him. Personally I think it looks dreadful and it was a terrible idea as were most of SP's clothes.

SF, however, strikes a better balance. The suits are fitted a bit better. I like the SF suits. My favourite tux is the midnight blue of SF. Stick Craig in any blue and he's gonna look amazing.

A tailor once gave me (a blonde) a similar suggestion – to avoid white/lighter colours and to opt for suits in various blue tones to get the right contrast. I really like the colours of the SF suits, but the fit is a bit tight, IMO.
