Star Wars actor David Prowse has sadly passed away aged 85.
Prowse played the evil Lord Darth Vader in the original trilogy 1977 - 1983

  • And what a role to have played!

Prowse also shared a slice of Bond history when he played Frankenstein's monster in Casino Royale:

He was also one of the contenders for the role of Jaws.

Sad news, as a kid living in the UK I was aware of David for many things from Vader, Hammer Horror to The Green Cross Code Man to his Body Building.

One thing was always apparent and that was he always seemed to be a decent and very down to earth chap.

    The originals...

Here's one of my favorite shots of Dave Prowse on the set of FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL

    R.I.P. Dave Prowse.
I also remember him in the movie version of 'Callan', as a heavy who Callan kills in a rather gruesome fashion!

I was about the mention that. Having never seen the Star Wars films, at least not the original ones. Callan the movie is where I know Prowse from. Not that his character lived long enough to know, but he learned a valuable lesson: don't mess with Callan.

    RIP Dave Prowse

He also had a small part in A Clockwork Orange

Not a bad career working with George Lucas and Stanley Kubrick. R.I.P Dave Prowse

Actor Hugh Keays-Byrne, most known for appearing as Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road and Toecutter in the original 1979 Mad Max film, has died. Always loved his work in the franchise, especially in Fury Road. RIP.

    Damn.

My aunt on my Mom's side passed away yesterday. She had been ill for quite some time.

Lost quite a few loved ones this year: grandmother, one of my closest friends, one of my Dad's old band-mates and now my aunt.

Hopefully next year is more merciful.

@ToTheRight Sorry for your loss mate. My own aunt is very sick, she doesn't have much longer. I hope she at least makes it to her 70th, this Feb. Saw her a few weeks ago.

    …..Forty Years ago.

I can’t even begin to say how much John Lennon and The Beatles meant (and still mean) to me.

I was very young and this is the very first news I remember seeing on the television.
My dad was in tears as John Lennon and The Beatles, were such a major influence on his life. Very sad day.

I was 15 at the time. In Secondary school. Everybody was talking about it. Such a shock!

I was 14 and remember where I was when I heard. A tragic waste of life. Someone who gave so much pleasure to millions through his music. Murdered by a pathetic cowardly loser. 😔

I was also 14 and heard the famous Howard Cosell announcement on Monday Night Football. Although we didn't know a lot about Lennon, that was a big topic at our school the next day too. Part of what was shocking then was there just weren't that man high-profile shootings of famous people as there seem to be now. It seemed to just grow from there as President Reagan and the Pope were both shot the next year and on and on.

Now I'm a huge Beatles and Lennon fan and am grateful for the music and his unique, flawed personality.

To use another songwriter's lyrics: I was just a child then. Now I'm only a man.
