Hopefully this doesn’t become another “who would/could play Bond” thread.

Tired of theses useless/pointless discutions too.

    PushSquare have published their review:

    In short: 9/10

    ---

Even if I did buy it now, I already have a few games going at the same time. Plus a big backlog of games I have, but not played. And a few more that I still need to pick up. Basically, i'm holding off for the time being.

How is it pointless to discuss who could be playing Bond? This is the thread for the Bond game. There's no material or info to discuss, so we are free to speculate right now. And one of the main points of interest is whether the next film Bond works on the game or if the game has its own Bond.

I thought Project 007 had already been announced as a separate entity to the films. In which case, I don't see why we can't specualte on who might lend their voice and/or likeness to the game.

Discussing potential actors for IO’s 007 seems like fair game in this thread.

I would be fine With Sean Bean as both the voice and model of Bond

Me too. I would also like to see Jon Hamm play him (if they went American). Kit Harington would be my personal choice. He’s known, but not everyone-knows-your-name famous. That really helped the previous Bonds.

When I think of Game of Thrones, Richard Madden would be great, too, in my opinion.

He was another choice! Tom Hiddleston could be interesting as well. Brian Blessed would make a great villain. Maybe for Jean-Paul Scipio, if they use Forever and a Day as a influence or adaption. Speaking of FAAD, I would like to see them use this, Richard Maibaum and Michael G Wilson's original scripts of Bond 15, and even Jeffery Deaver's Carte Blanche. I know a lot of Bond fans don't like it, but there are bits that could be adapted well for a video game.

I woukld love it if IO's series just focused on the post fleming novels we all know we will never get them in film form I would actually be thrilled if we got the games like this

    Carte Blanche 2022
    Colonel Sun 2024
    Liscence Renewed 2026

    etc

I might play the new hitman games as well but lately have been playing all of the james bond games going in order as I build up to Project 007

and also am I the only one who hopes that isnt a working title I kind of like that as the actual title of the game

I hope the developers read the books and take scenarios from there, rather than only using the films for inspiration.

I haven't thought of that yet, but for an origin story Project 007 could actually work! I am quite sure they won't do it, but the idea is pretty good.

Again, the old rights question. I never understood how this works, exactly. But IOI got their licence from Danjaq, not from Ian Fleming Publishing. So I would assume, any connection to be to the films rather than the books.

I take back my previous defense of IOI.

Hitman 3's launch has been an absolute disaster. Overloaded servers are one thing and almost expected at this point for online games, but we're going on nearly three days of people simply being unable to play at all. Most users, especially those on PS4/PS5, are unable to play the game at all simply because it won't connect their profile (myself included). The issue has been acknowledged by IOI and they are apparently working on a fix, but the performance is unacceptable. There is no point in playing "offline" because of the challenges and mastery so it's a very bare bones experience.

Hopefully Project 007 does not come with this online nonsense.

That was quite the quick turnaround for you, guess it paid for me to avoid this day one launch, as I feared would be the case. Sounds like they had issues with implementing things that they should've done months ago but waited until the last second when there was confusion and frustration going on.

The fact that they still run this game "online" at all times is laughable, as it doesn't even curb cheaters or hackers for the most part.

Really sorry to hear about your experience with the game. In a lot of ways I hate what the internet has done to gaming.

I long for the days when you could buy a SNES cartridge, shove it in the console and enjoy the full experience offline with absolute immediacy.

The whole industry seems to think that graphics / refresh rate / map size are what makes good and memorable gaming experiences, but some of my best memories have a lot more to do with story, characters, and visual styles that have nothing really to do with how many pixels are on the screen.

Me talking about vidja games back in my day:

Forced online is one thing I would like to see gotten rid of. Confine it to the scrapyard of bad decisions in gaming history. It’s the only part of Ghost Recon: Breakpoint which I don’t like.

Yes. It ruined the Halo franchise, which was brilliant for the first 3 or so.

It seems to infect and ruin any game that opts to incorporate it and nobody is ever clamoring for it. It's a shame. Hell, it's what helped kill the Xbox One's chances all those years ago, coming out at E3 with the "always online" nonsense. We don't want it.

I accepted it with Hitman 2, since it had an online portion, but the others? No.

@NickTwentyTwo - Replace SNES with Master System 2, and I would agree with you. It wasn’t the most powerful console back in the day, but the MS2 was my first console, and I have many memories of the games for it.

Nice. Don't know much about that system specifically, but very much familiar with the sentiment. I think Super Mario RPG for SNES is still my favourite video game of all time.

It was a cheaper, less powerful option to the Mega Drive. But being 6 or 7, and never had a console before, it’s power or lack thereof, wasn’t a concern. The Master System was an 8 bit console, while the Mega Drive was 16 bit. I had the mk 2 Master System, same power as the original one, but with a curvier facelift.

I would probably still stand by my defense of the gameplay, and indeed the consensus among those who have been able to play it is "best of the trilogy" and tons of compliments aimed at the story which is a first for Hitman in my experience.

Unfortunately, you were absolutely right to avoid it. I just really wanted to support IOI this time around considering I got the first two games for next to nothing and can appreciate a small developer. I'd even forgive some downtime on the server due to their limited means. What happened here though is beyond unacceptable though. It took them two days to even acknowledge the issue and many are already scrambling for a refund.

I don't even mind the online features, but there's no reason the game(s) shouldn't be fully playable offline and then just have the progression and leaderboards sync later on if desired.

Count me in on the internet connection required for video games being a bad thing for them. I’m not too worried about Project 007 requiring internet connection though. Reason why is because I think more older gamers are more interested in 007 than younger. Plus, Gotham Knights has been confirmed by the creators not to be internet connection required. They want people to enjoy it for as it is. Hopefully, more video game companies will follow soon. Namely the COD games! I’m just after the main story campaigns, same with Project 007. I’m also thinking of what the rating will be: T or M? I’m thinking M because of their past with Hitman. And as I said before, the older gamers are more likely to be interested in Project 007. Hopefully, we can all get a winner! Now some more information, please!

There's something so delightful about popping off to the game store, buying a new release, coming home, inserting a disc and playing for hours.

The whole concept of forcing gamers to do everything online can just get in the bin. It rarely works, and now, even when I do buy the disc, I still have to upload it to my console which takes the best part of a day.

I sincerely hope Project 007 sticks to the old methods of game play.

I don't have Hitman, what is this story of online needed in a offline game? What you can't do/access in the game if you aren't connected?

(This practice of online needed in a offline game is shamefull knowing that one day or an other the server of the game will be shut down and features will be unaviable).

If you aren't online, the game isn't recording your progress, i.e. Level Mastery and ranking up, challenge unlocks, challenge progress in general, etc., which is essentially the entirety of the game, unless you're planning to just casually play levels without any progress made.

Damn! How a such idiotic feature isn't mentionned in the tests of the game I read is beyond me...

I think the assumption is just that everyone is always online 100% of the time. I have a phobia of needing to rely on a strong internet connection for anything. That's why if they put NTTD on streaming, I'd hope there would be an option to download and watch offline (but I guess there probably wouldn't be).
  • edited January 2021 Posts: 859
Me too. I always download my vidéos (even YT ones) when I can otherwise to see them live-streaming since I was used to to have a bad/slow internet connection. Don't want interuptions each 10 seconds for loading the next 10.

If this kind of "planned obsolescence" is part of 007 Project, I hope pirate/cracked copy of the game will be helpfull to save/preserve the solo part of the game the day that features will disappear when the servers will be shut down by IO (like 20 years after his release) :(

20 years? 10 maximum more like it. After that, the game is a paperweight, and not a heavy one at that. Unless there is some form of offline option, you wouldn't be able to revisit it when you feel nostalgic.
Most likely than not, I imagine they would just switch somehow to an offline option as the Hitman games like the classic trilogy, and especially Blood Money, still have a ton of players revisiting those titles. And the online always option really only benefits the Elusive Targets, Escalation Mode, Contracts, and Live Challenges which, especially the Elusives, are timed content anyway so would not matter down the line.

To defend IOI a bit: What they are attempting with Hitman 3 has literally never been done in games. The are updating the two previous games completely with the updated engine and let you play everything from the previous game in the new technical set-up for no additional cost (if you own the other games) and want to make it possible for you to import your entire progress to a new game potentially on a completely new generation of console, again for free, launching on 7 platforms worldwide on the same day.

Now, I am not acting as if everything is fine here. The launch apparently didn't work and that is on them and they should do better. And sure, you may tlnit be interested in any of the things I just mentioned and you can always say "I just want to play the game", but this is isn't a developer being lazy or deceitful or a money-grab. They are attempting a massive swing with this infrastructure.

I would certainly never claim this was a money grab or anything like that. I don't really fault them as a company, so to speak, and I certainly don't fault the developers who put their heart and soul into the game. From those who have been able to play it, it is apparently a triumph. I also am understanding of the fact that IOI is a small developer and this was their first game since the management buyout so budgeting was likely tight and they were underprepared for the response. The game apparently annihilated sales expectations so for them, their games, and the future of the company that is excellent news.

However, the Deluxe Edition of Hitman 3 cost me $95 here in Canada. It has been out for nearly five days and I still can't play it. I do hope that for Project 007, which will likely have an even bigger audience, that this is a learning experience and the entire game is playable offline. I'm fine with leaderboards, progress tracking, etc... but that should be independently synced to the online profile.

Yeah, I might have bit a little too optimist.
