You Only Live Twice Watch Along Party!

Join myself and special guest Norman Wanstall (Oscar Winning Sound Editor) for a live watch along of You Only Live Twice via Zoom on Saturday 10th April at 7:00pm (BST)). To register, simply email: [email protected], along with your full name. Norman will answer your questions throughout the film. Please submit your questions upon registration or any time prior to the event, and as many questions as possible will be put to Norman during the event. You will need to have your own copy of the film to participate in the event, after a brief introduction at 7:00pm everyone will press play on the film simultaneously and the event will begin. We hope you can join us.

    Enjoyed this very much.

    Norman Wanstall, a joy to listen to. Engaged, enthusiastic, thoughtful. He really related interesting material throughout. Three hours plus, the discussion really took on a life of its own beyond a watch-along.

    Highlights for me.
    • Praise for voice work of Mike Collins (especially for Goldfinger) and Nikki van der Zyl.
    • Carefully short but positive comments on Monty Norman and John Barry, and how people talked of who did what. And later much more about Barry.
    • Nice stories about attending the Oscars and receiving the award for Best Sound Editing, Goldfinger as presented by Angie Dickinson. He shared a photo on screen, with others on display on his wall and others shared at times.
    • Shared experiences on his friendship with Tania Mallet and noting her passing.
    • His enjoyment of fan gatherings and events.
    • Only premiere he's attended is Spectre, Royal Albert Hall.
    • Casino Royale stands apart, he says. Brilliant script, he greatly likes the filmmaking involved.
    • On request, his reading of his poem "What Is Sound Editing" as a finale. And a poem on freedom, "War On Woke". And one on Brexit. Published items, it's mentioned. Though his paper "Life is Based On Luck, Free Will is an Illusion" is unpublished (or at least The Daily Mail wouldn't publish it he says).

    Among those highlights, not least his advice on picking up and holding the Oscar itself--his great joy of allowing others to pick it up, relishing their experience of holding it themselves. What a fine man he is. And such energy, he was just as energized at the finish as he was at the start.

    I hope to announce further Bond events in the near future. If you have any suggestions of what film you would like to be done next or a special guest that you would very much like to see, then please let me know, and I will certainly take your feedback into account when it comes to my planning.
