I'm waiting for the story arc to have been completed before I start reading. I'm collecting the single issues, though, because I prefer those over TP's.

Anyone read the new issue of Agent of SPECTRE yet?

It's scheduled for release Wednesday. I doubt any of us have had the opportunity to read it just yet...

Whoops, I guess I had the release date incorrect when I initially asked this question.

It is out now, though, in case anyone has a chance to read it!
  • Sorry it's taken me an extra week to pick up & read JB:AOS #4. I'm surprised no one else has managed to report yet either -- I hope this doesn't bode poorly for sales of the monthly Bond title...

This is a fairly action-packed episode -- car chase, helicopters attack, gun fights etc. A little bit of glamorous locale, some examination of Blofeld's business methods, a tracking device and some repartee between Bond and Blofeld. There were absolutely NO surprises plot-wise but it was a fairly satisfactory issue nonetheless. At this point I can believe the storyline will be wrapped up in one more issue. If you've been enjoying the story so far I expect you won't be disappointed with this issue... and if you haven't been enjoying it, well, it'll be over soon. Maybe you're just looking forward to Moonraker.

Foreshadowing a Moonraker graphic novel from Dynamite? I hope so, as they haven’t announced anything after Agent of Spectre yet. Van Jensen isn’t coming back, at least that’s what he said after Live And Let Die was released. Their rights stay until 2025.

I'm expecting at least MR in the 4 years remaining in the contract, and I'd hope to see DAF as well. We don't really want to have FRWL at the tail end of the contract, I suspect ... because that leaves us with the possibility of Bond dying as the contract runs out, and the powers that be deciding against renewing it. In that eventuality, the Dynamite Comics run of 007 would close in a fashion that nobody really wants to see.... * so let's not even go there.

Well I don't know how many Fleming book Dynamite gonna adapt. But a the moment there is also a fan project of translating the adaptations by Zig Zag :

    https://www.ajb007.co.uk/discussion/53853/call-to-the-community-help-to-enlarge-the-access-of-untranslated-bond-comics-adventures

So far almost everything was done, the only one that are not translated or currently in the process of being translate are :

    - Moonraker ("Sabotage")
    - DAF
    - Thunderball (2 parts)
    - OHMSS (2 parts)
    - TSWLM
    - YOLT

So if you like me you don't understand spanish but still want to read adaptation of the novel in comics one day, you can participate to it ;)

James Bond defeated by PAW Patrol? Oh, the shame! :)
  • I see nothing in this article that has any bearing at all on Dynamite's commitment to the Bond series. Does anybody out there remember Marvel's STAR COMICS line? Mainstream comics publishers have been trying (mostly fruitlessly) to put comics back into the hands of kids for decades. STAR didn't mean that Marvel had any plans to stop publishing Spider-Man, Dynamite publishes a large number of comics besides the Bond titles. Paw Patrol poses no more of a threat to Bond than does Vampirella or Red Sonja.

There are more of them though. Strength in numbers. They're a force to be reckoned with.

  • I must admit that they're CUTER than Daniel Craig... but not cuter than Pierce Brosnan.

No, he's the original Pretty Boy along with a young Roger Moore!
  • Isn't that Young Roger running alongside the Paw Patrol in the illustration above?

It is ever it’s an exciting time to be a Bond fan. We’re thrilled that 007 will be revisiting the world of comics, for Convert PDF to Excel online in documents as Fleming’s novels have a long and successful history in this medium, ever since they began to be published as newspaper comic strips

Is Dynamite Comics adapting the other comics this way?

Apparently, Himeros is the greek god of sexual desire. Make of that what you will :

Sounds very promising! Starting to remind me of the original series we used to get from Dynamite so I’m quite excited. The woman on the cover reminds me of Lupe Lamora. My only concern is Fuso doing the art, as I haven’t really liked the art he’s done for Bond, and I think it was a hindrance on my enjoyment of Service.

    @ClarkDevlin

I was looking back at this thread and I noticed something. Do you still have contact with people who work with Dynamite Comics? I know this was a couple of years ago, but you haven’t been updating hidden gems from them. Not to get you in trouble, just curious!

So, I just read AoS #5 for the first time. Here are some immediate thoughts. I think I will let this one sit for a couple of weeks and then re-read all 5 issues in succession. Usually, my opinions change a bit when reading a whole run in one, instead of single issues a month apart.
Like the entire series, this felt rushed. I am basically happy with where all the beats land at the end, but the way there is just a bit too straight for my taste. I have no idea, why they decided to only do 5 issues for this one. The original set-up in #1 seemed like this would be heavy on the double and triple crosses and red herrings and in the end - at least for me - everything turned out more or less exactly as I expected. I know this is comic books 101 - leave the characters where you found them - but I would have liked something more.

Although I liked the unconvectional inking from a pure art perspective, I don't think they serve this heavily action-oriented book all that well. Especially this issue is basically non-stop action and I sometimes felt a bit lost in the orange and yellows.

This entire series has had the undercurrent of Bond being somewhat weary of this life he is living. The seperate moments are pretty good (like Bond blowing off Blofeld, by asking, why he would ever want to leave this life behind, while they are fistfighting inside an exploding inferno, or the repeated mentions of Bond not thinking he will live all that much longer - quite Flemingsesque in a way).

All in all, I would say something like a B-/C+ for me. Some really cool small bits that don't really amount to a convincing whole, in my opinion.

As for Himeros: I am happy, that they continue to put out original Bond comics. The angle seems very, very strange. I haven't followed all of the Epstein stuff closely, but I am not sure whether I like them using something so ripped from the headlines. Especially, when the topic is child sex trafficking. I will pick it up, for sure, but I am a bit nervous. Also, I am with @2Wint2Kidd that I haven't really liked Fuso on Bond all that much...

Read the last issue and honestly:
The pacing was all over the place. It felt hurried and like the last issue could have been split into two.

That, unfortunately, is a problem many comic titles suffer from. Endings are very hard to do well but some titles just seem to be improvising from issue to issue, only to suddenly find themselves with only a handful of pages left to tie things together and reach a satisfying conclusion.

    From Diamond's site :
Himeros is the Greek God of sexual desire and one of the Erotes, the winged gods of love. When Aphrodite was born from the sea-foams she was greeted by the twin loves Eros and Himeros.

But when sexual desire goes too far, it takes the legendary super-spy James Bond to bring justice to the most vulnerable among us as he investigates the suspicious death of an accused sex trafficker - one whose ties run deep... and deadly.

Writer Rodney Barnes make his Dynamite 007 debut in this special series, featuring art by returning Bond superstar artist Antonio Fuso and two amazing covers: Francesco Francavilla and Jackson "Butch" Guice!

Created by the British journalist and novelist Ian Fleming in 1952.

The character appeared in a series of twelve novels and two short story collections written by Fleming and a number of continuation novels and spin-off works after Fleming's death in 1964.

There have been twenty-seven films in total, produced between 1962 and 2021.

Rodney Barnes is an American screenwriter and producer. Barnes has written and produced The Boondocks, My Wife and Kids, Everybody Hates Chris, Those Who Can't, Marvel's Runaways, American Gods, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, and is currently an executive producer/writer on HBO's Untitled Los Angeles Lakers drama.
