I will except no one but Aiden Turner.
  • I genuinely can't see right now how EON can follow Craig with another actor..no one out there I can think of. Tom Hiddleston maybe? I personally don't get the love for Fassbander.

It’s actually an inside joke. I’m not even sure who he is.

What if Pierce got a proper send off? Yeah, he'd probably be 70-71, by the time the film comes out, but it would be cool to see his Bond at this point in time. I know crazy stunts would be out of the question, but it could be a slick thriller of a Bond film with more brains than braun. That way, it would really cement Craig's films as a thing of their own.

Old man Bond is definitely a story I’d watch, especially with Brosnan. Or Dalton.

It’s called Skyfall and it’s pretty good :))

I’ve long campaigned for an Old Bond film with either Brosnan or Dalton coming back, but with the way EON has been taking their time, that could mean we wouldn’t get a „normal“ Bond film for another 8 to 10 years. And we basically haven’t had a film with Bond as a younger man since QoS, so that could easily come out to like a 20+ year break, which is crazy.

And I honestly don’t know what they would still be capable of doing, if Craig at early 50 said his body just can’t take it anymore. Sure, they wouldn’t do the stunts he does and Bond is more than just the stunts, but there would have to be some action. You can’t just make it into a chamber piece or have him just be a mentor or something. That would arguably be a bigger divergence from the franchises past than some of the other suggestions here that people get all worked up about.

Yeah, I’ve always liked the idea of an old man Bond one off with Dalton or Brosnan, but I don’t think now is a good time for that sort of thing. We’ve had a grizzled older Bond since Skyfall, and we’ve just had a very unconventional Bond film where he finally grew up. And I’ve loved that, having a complete story for a change. But it has been a good few films now since we’ve seen Bond in his prime.

I think it’s time to go younger again. Go back to a hedonistic Bond who’d rather live fast and die young than reach mandatory retirement age. I think that’d feel very fresh now after a few films of Bond as an old dog.

I agree that there should be a return to a hedonistic Bond, but it seems that the producers may hamper the full potential. I hope that won't be the case and we'll once again get a polygamous, brash agent who can exist, regardless of Brexit and Covid and whatnot.
  • My actor for the next 007 would be Aidan Turner. And if the story to be told in BOND 26 is about a young James Bond, his passage through the British Royal Navy to become a 00 agent, then it would be Fionn Whitehead or Harry Styles.

    :)>-

I like Aidan Turner for "Bond 26". And I like the idea of Fionn Whitehead for a James Bond younger. But Harry Styles, no.

Okay, so if you will only except Aidan Turner, who will you ACCEPT? (Or have we all stopped trying to spell correctly when online?)

That was embarrassing! Never hesitate to point out any grammatical or spelling errors on my part. I need to stay aware. I hate reading through mistake ridden posts.

I’ve been thinking a lot about where the franchise goes after Craig lately and I think it would be interesting to keep the depth of Craig’s Bond and Flemingesque nature, go younger with the casting, and potentially cast a POC (I think Daniel Kaluuya would be a fresh choice). Instead of centering the run around an overarching story or “Bond Begins” arc, I’d like to see them use the run as an opportunity to experiment with genre and various forms of cinema.

Have a Bond film that operates equally effectively as a horror film (NTTD toyed with this a bit in the beginning, why not extend it to the full film?) Maybe for the second outing they shift gears into something more like a heist caper, for the 3rd we bring things down to earth and play it something like a political thriller (you could say QoS attempted it and failed), maybe reintroduce Smiert Spiognam but with a serial killer hunt type spin. Maybe they get daring and have a romance/drama focused story of Bond falling in love. It’s possible to do all these things and keep the core formula elements.

I think it’s a great way to keep things fresh, unpredictable, and also capitalize on the producers/franchises ability to bring in a variety of diverse and talented directors, writers, actors.

The 'old Bond' with Brosnan sounds the most attractive proposition so far. Just about sums up the state of play in replacing Craig...

I’d lose my mind (in a good way) over even just a one off “old Bond” film with Brosnan. What a dream.

You know what. Sign me up for the "old man Brosnan" Bond film (or Dalton). This might be the only opportunity for such a film to work, and it has been somewhat trendy in Hollywood lately to have legacy sequels with original stars coming back.

I would absolutely love it (or Tim, even), especially if they gave him some solid unused, or misused, Fleming to work with for once. I don't mean tidbits, as in DAD and NTTD, I mean a full Fleming adventure; MR, DAF or TSWLM, or maybe even go small with THR. Change the title if they must, though I think that hardly matters after killing him off, but stick closely to the source material.

But I don't see it happening.

Love all of this. I suggested Kaluuya on the who should be a Bond actor thread. He may be an unconventional choice, but his raw presence and comedy chops would make him an exciting one imo.

And I love the idea of crossing genres a bit more. Bond’s greatest strength is its flexibility, so why not lean into that? I came out of NTTD thinking “that was a bit sci-fi for a Craig film”, but the more I dwelled on it, the more I thought why not? Why should they be wedded to a particular style or aesthetic or even genre for a whole actor’s run, when Bond’s greatest strength is its variety? So, I’d love it if the next era leaned into that variety in the way you’re describing here. I think a Bond horror film could definitely work. Send him up against some creepy cult or something, like LALD without the problematic stuff. Or if they still wanted to keep a bit of upper class glitz then maybe base the cult on scientology, or go full illuminati, some sort of creepy super rich society? Tons of possibilities. I like the Smiert Spiognam serial killer idea too, and I’m amazed they haven’t done a heist movie already. When you think about it, there’s a lot of overlap between the spy genre and the heist genre. That could be a perfect fit for Bond, while still feeling unconventional enough to be exciting (instead of his investigation building to a big explosion filled finale, it could build to him putting that knowledge to use by turning into a one man Ocean’s 11).

I hope they tone down seriously the sci-fi in the next Bond. I enjoyed NTTD, I think it's a daring and brilliant film, bit the sci-fi elements were sometimes a bit much.

Good. I may not have agreed with every creative choice they’ve made, but I respect the hell out of how protective they are of this property. I hope it keeps this kind of special, authentic value that few other blockbusters seem to achieve these days.

I hope they will keep Bond more like the Fleming character as much as possible. I'd like to see more of the cold grey eyes Bond has in the books. Yes Bond does spectacular things, but show us how he pays for those amazing feats by being banged up from surviving it. Bond is pretty beat up by the end of a lot of Bond novels, and he has to recuperate.

They did this to an extent with Daniel Craig and I think it worked. Just seeing Bond take damage from his exploits would help ground the character and help keep the stakes real.

    I agree. I don't want a Superman Bond.

Wait, isn't Indy a Time Lord or a code name?

I always thought Bond was a Time Lord. It fits the continuity well!

Agreed. I think this physical vulnerability is why CR and QoS were the most successful ones in this era, IMHO.

Overall I think one of the best things that the Craig era brought to the franchise is a return to a certain vulnerability for Bond.

Kathleen Kennedy and Kevin Feige should take some notes, both in the TV and movie areas.
