I love it personally but I'm just a little surprised by all the love for DN, as well as the general absence of Moore.

Well, my favourite Moores are TMWTGG & FYEO, but neither rank up there with the best of the other fellows for me.

    Desert Island Six:

    FRWL
    OHMSS
    TLD
    GE
    CR
    SF

    Sorry Rog…

I could live with that one. The only miss for me on that list is the last act of TLD.

Even though they're not my Top 6 movies, I think I'd want every Bond actor represented if I was doing the desert island six approach, so:

    TB
    OHMSS
    TSWLM
    LTK
    GE
    CR

I have three Moore films in the top 10, but none of them is in my top five at the moment.

It may sound outrageous coming from a Bond fan, but in my ‘perfect’ alternate universe, the Bond franchise ends with OHMSS.
The first six are what I consider the essential Bond films, the absolute classics that are indispensable, culminating in the perfect gut punch that is OHMSS.
All those that came afterwards, no matter how entertaining and good some of them may be, I could have lived without (even though I would have missed on LALD and some of Barry’s finest music).

@R1s1ngs0n I have often thought the same. YOLT would still stand out as the one that veers substantially from the novel, and it’s hard to forgive producing The Blofeld Trilogy out of order, but that is still a near perfect decade for Bond.

To be perfectly honest, I’ve only read very few Bond novels (FRWL, LALD and FYEO) so faithfulness to Fleming’s work does not really factor in my appraisal of the movies.
Sometimes it’s hard to put into words how certain films affect you and I guess nostalgia also plays a big part of it.
But for me personally, the first six (whatever shortcomings they might have) possess a magical quality/aura that none of the following films can match.

My top 5 as taken from the overall rankings thread. I might be willing to sacrifice Skyfall to add in a Roger or Pierce, or I'd extend the list to six for Dalton if going the desert island route. Nevertheless, this still holds up for me:

    1. NTTD
    2. OHMSS
    3. CR
    4. FRWL
    5. SF

Since it appears that we have moved on from the “top 5” to “the desert island 6” I thought I would post the complete final standings of film mentions. Note, some posters listed their top 5, while others just listed five – in no particular order – hence “mentions”.
    Film Totals
    1. OHMSS 32
    2. CR 31
    3. FRWL 30
    4. DN 19
    5. TLD 19
    6. GE 14
    7. GF 13
    8. SF 13
    9. NTTD 13
    10. LTK 11
    11. TB 9
    12. TSWLM 8
    13. YOLT 5
    14. QoS 5
    15. LALD 4
    16. MR 4
    17. FYEO 4
    18. OP 4
    19. TND 4
    20. TWINE 3
    21. DAF 2
    22. SP 2
    23. AVTAK 1
    24. TMWTGG 0
    25. DAD 0

In total 50 posters contributed (through @NickNackered) for a sum of 250 mentions. Perhaps we should start a new count (or thread) for the desert island picks?

My desert island picks would be different from my top 5 picks in that I'd take one that I hated to the island to remind me how good the other 4 were. ;)

To quote Bond after coming back from his own ‘desert island’, “it really lends perspective”!

Nice list. Certainly each actor’s most classically “Bondian” film.
