In France, NTTD is still number one, with 3 978 757 seats sold. But, given that Spider-Man : No Way Home got a great first week with 2 867 515 viewers, and is currently at third place, I wouldn't be surprised to see it overtaking Bond in the next few weeks. But, what the heck, managing those more thyan three millions viewers during the days we are living is still quite impressive.

I thought I'd hate this new Matrix film but I didn't. It was interesting but definitely not the direction I would have opted for. There's no way even if it was a cinema exclusive that it would reach even $500M.

I turned it off after 1/2 hour, it was that bad. And it's tanking terribly at the box office. An embarrassment to the 1st film.

It got better. Shoulda kept it on

You did better than I did. I was done at the 20 minute mark. I'll try again later this week.

My friends loved it but it sounds like it’s a really divisive movie.

In NA Spidey dropped a whooping -68% on its second weekend making it the biggest drop ever for a Marvel Studios flick.

NTTD’s numbers are yet to be updated.

You can thank Christmas and omnicron for that.
  • The next question is...can Spidey beat Black Panther at the US Box Office. I'm thinking it will.

Oh cool so now COVID is again a thing. Last week inhere it sounded like it wasn’t anymore and for that reason NTTD underperformed because there were no real “circumstances”…

That was Mendes4Lyfe trying to downplay NTTD’s success.

    “Haha! It only made $700m!”

Yes it a thing. Because unlike when Bond came out, the Omnicorn variant spiraled out of control last week. 🙄

Back in September audiences were less accustomed to come back to the theaters and by late September the Delta surge was far from over. In my country when NTTD came out theaters worked with a 50% capacity while now there are no restrictions even tho record breaking Omicron cases are reported. Why? Because Omicron leads to less hospitalizations than Delta and people are even getting boosted.

Sad news : NTTD has been dethroned by SM : NWH. The latest adventure of our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has reached first place of 2021, with 4 604 615 seats sold vs. 3 978 757 for Bond. Still, not bad at all.

Why is that sad news? Everyone saw Spidey surpassing Bond. Nothing surprising about that.

I'll never really understand why people take box office results so personally. Someone explained it as similar to sports fans, which I can definitely see, but also find extremely silly.

Saw NWH, and had a great time. Very fun film. Similar, interestingly, to NTTD in that you could tell it sacrificed a bit in the way of cohesive storytelling to hit specific emotional beats.

If the movie you like gets good box office, or if the sports team from your geographical location wins a trophy, then "[what] you're doing is okay".

Well who wouldn't enjoy the latest Bond film doing very well during its release? It's icing on the cake. Nothing against Spidey or other films though.

And with perspective, of course. Casino Royale never reached #1 at the US box office, for example. And I reserve the right to poke fun at that at times.

The only ones who hate Bond more than America, are EON and Bond fans.

It means a higher likelihood for more Bond films, sure.

Bond is still playing in some countries like UK, Germany, Australia, NZ etc etc but still the last time its numbers were updated was 10 days ago.

It is still playing here as well, even though the dvd/bluray is out. Distancing measures are back in place, and I suspect theatres are now more empty than full.

From Numero I see that it collected roughly $1M over the last seven days in Australia.
Hopefully Mojo will update its total soon.

MGM/Universal just don't release the updated box office data. Maybe they do in a couple of weeks just like Universal did it with F9, when that movie jumped from 707 Mio to 726 Mio.

Actually F9 jumped from 721 to 726 because it got released a month ago in a couple of countries like Philippines or whatever.

Before that it jumped from 707 to 721, after several weeks at 707 with no updates.

NTTD made almost $1 million in Germany alone since BoxOfficeMojo and TheNumbers didn't get any updates by Universal anymore. Someday those figures have to be released.
