Hadn't heard of Tom Hughes yet, but don't think he's a bad call.
De-merits are probably that he doesn't really seem to have any experience working in the high-budget world and I don't know what he's like with action. The action part, they can test in auditions and the with the other thing, we're getting close to the snake biting it's own tail. Either someone is an experienced big project lead - then their too big for the role or already contracted for 12 Disney projects - or they haven't done it yet. There aren't really all that any films like Layer Cake made anymore.

Funny enough looking at pictures of Hughes I had a thought I've also had about multiple other candidates: "He'd be great for a period piece. Not sure about modern-day Bond." What is it about some of these guys that they just make me think of the 60s?

He had some low key fight scenes in The Game. I believed his character could throw a punch and chase people convincingly. I would also say we don't know at this point how Bond 26 will distinguish itself from Craig's era in terms of stunts/action scenes. The budget will presumably be scaled back after NTTD just about broke even, so I don't think we'll see Bond using cables to jump off a bridge or doing anything quite as extravagant. Craig's Bond was also rather superhuman in this area too. The guy would take down three or four henchmen at a time without a gun, easily tackle Safin after being shot multiple times etc. Even in Casino Royale he blew up a whole embassy without trying too hard. Maybe the new Bond will be a bit more calculated, still a fighter but less reliant on brute force than Craig's. Also worth noting I'd have said the same about Robert Pattinson's physicality when he was announced as Batman and the fight/stunt scenes in that film were excellent.

I get what you mean. It doesn't help that all the pictures I posted of these actors were from period dramas. Hughes does have a rather angular somewhat 'pretty boy' face but he had a lot of intensity in The Game/in other things I've seen him in. A bit like Fleming's Bond - good looking, and might even be taken for a 'Hooray Henry' type if not for the cruel mouth/eyes and scar.

    Good choices @007HallY
I've seen an interview with Tom Hughes, he does give off that intense and elusive vibe that Timothy had. Also Hughes was born in Chester as was Daniel

@talos7 good choices as well mate, but do you reckon Harry Styles has the acting chops to take on Bond. I've only seen him in Dunkirk.

I think Styles is a great actor and with the right haircut I could FIND Bond in his look, but I also think he's a wildly different actor than anything we'd have seen from Bond to this point.

I know that this may thinking way out of the box but he has got an “ it” factor that cannot be denied. He is a very good actor who is steadily building a solid resume and has already caught the eye of Marvel. He’s tall , has a good voice, a maturing look and charisma for days . By the time the next film is ready to roll he will be in his early 30’s. He has charm but when sporting a serious expression, he conveys a certain intensity.

I know it’s a long shot but if he were cast, my 24 year old , Bond fan , Daughter would be thrilled.

I haven't seen him in a lot but what I have seen I thought he was a good actor.

I think either Damson Idris as the first black James Bond , Andrew Garfield or maybe a woman. There is a lot that can be done that can change the Bond scene, interested to see what ends up happening.

What should be the age range for the next Bond?

A few weeks ago I posted about Leo Suter, who I had seen in a few minor roles, but was about to star in the Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla. Now that I'm about 7 episodes into the Vikings show I still think Suter could be a good candidate for Bond, maybe. Has anyone else watched it? I'm honestly not even sure how good of an actor he is, but he's magnetic and so handsome, even to me as a straight guy. In just a few weeks since the show dropped it seems like he's becoming really popular with the ladies online too, unsurprisingly. Based on everything I've seen him in I think he'd definitely need to be more of a Roger Moore style, charming lady's man type Bond. He's very believable with that aspect. He is only 28 though, and some would say probably too "pretty", but honestly I think he's fairly rugged and tough when he's actually on screen, for someone that's only 28.

I also agree with what people are saying about Tom Hughes, especially after watching a couple episodes of Victoria. He could be my favorite candidate if I were wanting them to go with a quieter, brooding type of Bond. But that's not the direction I hope they go.

Another candidate I've been interested in for a while that is never mentioned here is Ben Aldridge:

I'll admit I've only seen him a little bit and that was in Fleabag (other than one episode of the just released The Long Call, which is ok, but his character is not Bond-like in it), but I liked him in that. He's in just a couple episodes, but he's funny and can do a dry humor well. His character is also super charming in the show (both towards Waller-Bridge's character and her mother), but he can also be cruel, like with how he just coldly rejects Waller Bridge at the end. I could see him doing a funny and charming, yet cold blooded Bond with a darker, dryer sense of humor. Which is something I'd like to see.

Not sure if he’s been mentioned here before and he may not have the traditional look but after seeing him in a few things and recently getting into Servant, I think Toby Kebbell would be a great choice. I think he could very much continue in the current darker, Flemingesque interpretation while offering something very different than Craig. Maybe a little more Daltonesque.

Edit: Funny enough , he was asked about the role a few years ago and had some interesting comments.

I've never seen Kebbell give a bad performance, so whilst he's not really my idea of Bond, I'd love to see a screentest with him playing 007. He's a very interesting actor, imo.

Good to have a few new names indeed. My bet is that however slim their chances to be Bond are, they still are more plausible candidates than Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and the usual suspects.

Same here mate. These are much more exciting than the regular names we hear. I think Leo Suter is a dark horse for the role

With the landscape between television and film being so different now, to how it was in 2005, will Eon consider actors that haven't been in big production films?

It's a good question; I guess Fukunaga came from that TV background (although so did Martin Campbell, really). I tend to think they'd want someone who has been the lead in a film of some kind, but perhaps it doesn't need to be a huge film, as you say.

Yeah, it's a bit of a problem with the film landscape as is. I think I wrote that a few days ago about Hughes. There aren't that many guys in the age range who have already been a lead for a couple of times or have extensive experiences working in huge productions as secondary characters but aren't contracted to Marvel or DC for the next 15 years.

I don't see why not. And there's at least some precedent in it: Roger Moore was pretty much a TV actor when he got the role. Brosnan too, to a lesser degree.

    You’ve read all 889 pages?
Whilst not every suggestion in this thread is positive, there are many that have huge potential to be James Bond.
One wonders who you would cast @ByRoyalDecree ?

Here's my latest choice for the next bearded Bond. Although he passed on some 32 years ago, with CGI we can bring him back as Craig's replacement......................

    Victor-French-Net-Worth.jpg

It will probably be another 32 years before we actually see B26 anyway. :)

My honest opinion is I could see so many candidates pulling it off (especially since Craig's casting opens up the playing field for non-conventional candidates), that it is extremely hard for me make shortlist all my potential candidates concisely.

I am actually more concerned with the writers/directors, as I am of the belief that compelling vision and quality filmmaking is very scarce in this day and age.

So my question to you would be, why then the derogatory and catty responses to potential names that have been mentioned?
If you have nothing of value to add, maybe you should keep your comments to yourself.

Some of the suggestions in this thread are mine, for which some I've been criticised. If anything my own comment was self-derogatory.

    Tom Holland vs Richard Madden?

I’d take Madden over Tom Holland. Though I do like Tom Holland as an actor. Just a little on the short side for Bond for me. However I believe Richard Madden isn’t on the tall side.
Neither would be my first pick. Or even in my top three.

    Who are your top 3?

Mine are Idris Elba, Cillian Murphy and Michael Fassbender

Nicholas Hoult, Theo James and Tom Hughes

Elba is a fine actor. But even he has taken himself out of the running. Too old.

Neither would be in my top 20, but between these two I’d have to go with Madden. Holland is good but doesn’t posses a drop of what’s needed for Bond.

He might be too old for a long run but for a two-off like Dalton I would be very pleased.
