I guess the idea is to make us hungry to see him, what with it being named after him; or something like that anyway. It's not really working on me though, I can't say he had any impact on me either way from the film.
I wasn't a big fan of the film, it took itself a bit too seriously for my liking. Although the whole climax act on the tropical planet was very good- it's nice to see a film where the best part is the final act.

I loved Rogue One, easily the best Disney Star Wars film for me. Its not so much Andor I am interested in, it's the other elements of the trailer.

I'm a big SW fan but none of this Disney stuff interests me, mostly because of how Lucas isn't involved. It comes off as a facsimile of Star Wars. I was initially interested in Obi-Wan since McGregor and Christensen were back but after watching the teasers it looks like more grimdark banality.

I liked the prequels despite their flaws and when I left the theater after watching ROTS in 2005, I considered Star Wars done. I still feel that way. All these sequels and sidequels feel completely superfluous.

I just finished the first two episodes of Obi Wan and I have to say it is up there with some of the best things Star Wars have ever done. I’m surprised by some of the things they’ve done, and it all feels natural. Can’t wait for the remainder of the series. Also Ewan McGregor is fantastic and this might be the best and most layered performance in Star Wars. Simply fantastic so far!

I love star wars. But really it seems to be disappearing under the weight of its own self importance. Everything is now dull colours, dark plots and “drama”.

Star Wars was originally popular because it was escapist, fun, thrilling entertainment.

Oh dear I am watching Obi Wan... episode 1, this is bad. Hopefully this is just a rocky start and the dialogue, acting and direction improves in episode 2.

Tell not show and exposition overload from the lame inquisitors.

Episode 2 not much better, very dissapointing.

I hope you like it, I actually laughed several times for all the wrong reasons.

I have cancelled Disney + as Star Wars and Marvel are clearly phoning it in with average content.

I don't have Disney + so no idea when I'll see it but I figure I'll try to check it out once it ends. I'm surprised how polarizing the reviews are for this one, I figured everybody would love it.

Does it seem light on Kenobi like we feared or was that just an issue with the marketing?

The show is poorly written and looks cheap, it's stupid and nonsensical.

Ewan in the first episodes is not given much to work with. One character that appears is really badly realised and cringe worthy.

I was actually angry after watching the first two episodes.

I hope others like it, personally I think it's trash.

I wouldn’t have time to watch it for a while. But if I can defend any TV show’s first couple of episodes, they are always going to be shaky. Sometimes, it takes a while for a show to find its way.

There is one line in episode 2 that is so against cannon its unreal. The writing is clueless.

    Major Spoilers...
Reva: 'Lord Vader will be pleased, you didn't know. He is alive Obi Wan, Anakin Skywalker is alive. He has been looking for you for a long time. And I will be the one to deliver you to him...' other stuff happens. 'you can' t run Obi Wan, you can't escape him, we will find you.'.This is set ten years after ROTS, Obi Wan is clueless that Anakin is alive and seems clueless or not even considered who or what Vader the right hand man to Palpatine maybe. (In the context of other things in this series it makes no sense). How the hell does Reva know who Vader is. How the hell has Obi Wan not even sensed Anakin is alive.
This is only the tip of the debacle.

Good God. That is... utterly confounding! Was there no "redaction" involved with the script, no one to gloss over the writing before approval?

    To be fair...
I think people not knowing Anakin was Darth Vader is equally ridiculous considering the nature of his "rebirth" at the end of the prequel trilogy.

And isn't the idea behind the series that Obi-Wan has disassociated himself from pretty much everything? I don't really see how that's an issue. Luke couldn't sense that Vader was his father and that Leia was his sister, even when he was right next to them! :)

In worse case scenario of bad writing only one person should have given this information to said person.

Luke barely had a grasp of his abilities at that stage in Empire,
Obi Wan has clearly been Jake Skywalkered here. If Obi Wan is supposed to be a guardian/protector to Luke would he not be maintaining his training and honing his ability, instead he has been turned into a weakling by hack writers.

My point moreso was that nothing about the force has ever really made sense. It just needs to be whatever the story needs it to be.
Obi-Wan knowing Vader was alive but not doing anything about it for 6/7 episodes wouldn't exactly make him look strong, either. At least this way, there's something for McGregor to work with.

When I watch Star Wars I want to say wow, this new show is sub standard bs and I will call it out. Only Mando seems to get what Star Wars is.

Going to rewatch Episode IV where there is subtley and depth of character.

The worst thing to happen to Star Wars is overhyping. I feel fans get carried away expecting every new iteration to be a game changer. That’s never gonna happen. STAR WARS and EMPIRE were the instances where lightning struck twice. Since then, it’s either been enjoyable space opera or lesser. I treat Marvel movies the same way now, where all I want and expect is to enjoy some adventurous hokum for two hours in the matinee, and then I move on with my life probably never seeing them again. That’s how those serials were treated.

I love that Alec Guinness had no delusions on what STAR WARS was. He wasn’t making it out to be life changing or anything, he just saw it as cinematic lark and got a nice paycheck out of it. If I get some enjoyment out of it like I did with THE LAST JEDI, good for me. If I get trash like ATTACK OF THE CLONES, oh well, at least I got to enjoy the sound design.

Good points as I read your post Alec Guinness waking Luke was on my TV, Guinness is unique one of the greatest actors in history.

Regarding the new show, when bringing Ewan back I expected much better, that's why I am not happy.

It says a lot about Guinness that in spite of the original film just being a paycheck gig for him and not having high thoughts about the film, he was still a professional actor giving his best to the material. The only Star Wars actor to get an Oscar nom, and well deserved.

Some actors always bring there best, Ladykillers is one of my favourite films and Guinness was brilliant in his collaborations with David Lean one of the greatest directors of all time.

This fan fiction will be better than whatever we get in Obi Wan Kenobi

That video is awesome if you have not seen it...

Ugh, I absolutely despise that video. It doesn’t at all feel like it belongs in that movie. Just something to placate to fans that wish the fights were more like the prequels or something. Killing any inherent tension between the two characters.

There’s this fan urban legend that the first film wasn’t able to do a more elaborate fight due to the technology at the time, but that’s incorrect. The problem was that on set the sticks they were using kept breaking because they were using mechanically rotating octagonal shaped poles with reflective film. It’s the kind of stuff Richard Donner used to make the Kryptonian robes “glow” in SUPERMAN. They were so fragile they were prone to break on stage.

Lucas had decided instead to fix the fight in post via editing and rotoscoping with more dynamic colors for the sabers rather than just a white glow as originally envisioned. With that in mind, they were able to make the fights more dynamic in the follow ups now that they were just working with rods. Had he done that from the start, there would have been less problems filming that fight scene in ANH and it might have been more on level with the fights in TESB and ROTJ.

Not to mention the lightsaber props back then were really heavy.
