    So we're getting a new Friday the 13th movie after all. Sweet. Sounds like they've got a bit of an Octopussy/Never Say Never Again situation going on, but hopefully competition will breed excellence all around.

    It seems like they’re just developing it for now, nothing has been greenlit, but hopefully this combined with a TV series being produced makes it a real possibility. It’s been too damn long.

    Wish it could be fast tracked for this October on the 13th, but expecting it later. Still great news! Horror has just been flourishing since the late 2010s and still going strong.

    If it isn't out in time for October, then the next month were the 13th falls on a Friday is September 2024. Given how early this seems in development, 2024 sounds more likely. Though it's interesting that the writer has a plan B. So long as they don't call it Friday The13th, and don't feature Pamela, there shouldn't be a problem. I don't know if Cunningham can use Crystal Lake. As it featured in the original film, i'm assuming that he can't?

    Clicking the link to bloody-disgusting.com reminded me how much I loved that teaser poster for the 09 film. So simple, but so effective. Tells you all you needed to know.

    Well, 9 and 10 managed to do well enough without any of those things (though I know mileage varies for fans when it comes to those particular films). Still, I think it's easier to make a good Friday the 13th with Jason and without Pamela, Crystal Lake, and the Friday the 13th title than it would be the other way around.

    Interesting reflection on how times have changed regarding this topic, with sex / nudity in films being a big area of interest for me. The transition to more disturbing and rare nude moments certainly can benefit horror films in achieving maximum effect. I think ultimately many fear the backlash of “objectification” regarding gratuitous nudity, but I think it’s a fun element of older movies that I’d love to see come back a bit more. Strangely it has felt to me like we’re regressing to more prudish times.

For example, the likes of Ti West, Eli Roth, Tom Six and Damien Leone are withholding absolutely nothing from us in the sleaze/T&A department. In fact, I get the feeling that some directors are deliberately pushing the envelope in pursuit of a grand shock-effect, sometimes because shock sells, and sometimes because shock helps to press an issue. At the same time, some of the more popular slashers these days (Scream, the recent Halloween films, Hellraiser '22, ...) are choosing not to show nudity, unlike several of the "originals" that went full frontal every couple of scenes 35 - 40 years ago. While I enjoy a good bit of T&A myself, I don't really miss it if it's not there, nor do I always think it adds something to the film is if it is there. I prefer it being used not for titillation but for a good story reason, like in X.

    But we are in more prudish times compared to when I was growing up in '90s Continental Europe. Friends of mine had no trouble taking their tops off on the beach when we were 17, nudity was televised even when the wee ones were still awake, and films that showed lots of nudity were available even to 14-year old me in the video stores. But not more. I'm not complaining, though. It's not the end of the world. ;-)

    Good post! I just think it’s a shame titillation and sex appeal seems to have become synonymous with sexism now. We all enjoy nice bodies, doesn’t mean we can’t or don’t also appreciate great writing and characters! I can understand the “time and place” argument for less of that maybe in mainstream movies and more relegated to content that is fully designated to be erotic. The real problem will be if pornography itself goes under attack…

    It's ironic really, considering Sean Cunningham hated the hockey mask.

    Ever since Part 2, Friday the 13th really has been purely about Jason, and the Pamela/childhood backstory angle was dropped pretty much entirely from Part 3 onward (with the bizarre exception of child Jason popping up sporadically throughout Manhattan). To paraphrase the Beatles, Jason is really all you need. I'm relieved Cunningham is doing the film too. Miller and his team can explore Pam Voorhees all they like throughout however many episodes or seasons. I'll be satisfied with hockey mask or baghead Jason making his return in Friday the 13th, Part 13.

    My first thought was how perfect that was Dafoe would be reprising the role of Nosferatu, then I saw Bill Skarsgård was in the cast and realized there was no way he wouldn't be playing the titular vampire. Still, Dafoe's casting is a nice little homage to Shadow. I'm hoping this will be the first of Eggers' films to not leave me cold.

    Absolutely. But whether you will enjoy the film or not depends, I guess, on your taste, patience, and general expectations from a late '70s stalker/horror film.

    A friend of mine let me watch DRACULA'S DAUGHTER via MeTV, which I had never heard of before. "You like older horror films so you will love Svengoolie," he said.

    Svengoolie??? What the hell did I just watch? I don't know the man but I passionately hate him already. He isn't funny nor particularly insightful, but never mind that. Tell me, please, why a 60-ish minute film was interrupted 15 times for absolutely stupid, redundant pieces of trivia. Why I am being insulted by the kind of puppeteering that may appeal to drunks at best. Svengoolie??? Forget it! Next time I'll just plug in my DRACULA'S DAUGHTER bluray again and watch the film in a normal way.

    I literally just watched the first one again last night. I'm all for this. These movies despite their faults are a guilty pleasure of mine especially I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

    It doesn't bother me, they'd inevitably ruin it with bad CGI and it wouldn't come close to touching upon the genius of the original.

    They are really playing out Jenna big time. And why not? She's very hot right now, what with Wednesday and all. I think this film, if not directly catering to it, will still draw in the t(w)een crowd.
