Ugh, that last pic, I forgot about that set piece towards the end, nearly as bad as the parasailing sequence or invisible car! Cant wait to move on from this film! CR up next, thank God!

Halle (not her character) was easily the best component of that dismal movie.

Actually, I quite liked the following failed attempt of assasinating Graves at the airfield. By the way, are switchblades a real thing?

100%, Pierce really sells this film. It's not perfect by any means, and it's taken me a long time to enjoy it. If you can accept the silliness and fantastical elements, then it's a really fun movie.

The last James Bond film of the classic era. Despite its faults, it's the type of Bond film I grew up with, and I remember coming out the cinema buzzing.
There was a Usenet group called alt.fan.JamesBond and I remember one hardcore fan declaring it 'the best Bond ever'. I wonder if he still thinks that?

There's one of them for every Bond film, even NSNA...maybe not CR'67.

Wait! Orson Welles, David Niven, Ursula Andress, Peter Sellers, Jean-Paul Belmondo and several more stars! What could possibly go wrong???

You're forgetting Ursula Andress, Barbara Bouchet and Daliah Lavi as well. If nothing else CR'67 had some lovely eye candy.

I'd sooner watch CR'67 than endure DAD again!

Agreed. I’ve been just as harsh as everyone else on DAD at the end of the day. But it was the first Bond film I owned on Home Video, and I remember watching it over and over again while always having a fun time. Even today Id rather watch DAD than the likes of QOS, SP, and maybe even NTTD.
  • DAD was fun. Doesn't necessarily have to be a great Bond film to enjoy it!

And so we come to the end of Pierce Brosnan's tenure as James Bond. Personally I think he had another film in him. But it wasn't too be.

Next up we'll look at Daniel Craig's debut film Casino Royale.

However, I'm afraid it will have to wait till next week, as I'm out of the country, and haven't been able to work on this thread while I'm away. BTS will return 12th November.

I also would've taken a fifth one from Brosnan. Another sort of course correction for his final appearance would've been appreciated.

Same here. Pierce really deserved the chance to go darker with his portrayal, but that still doesn’t take away from how great he was in the role. He was one of the best Bonds certainly.

Utter nonsense! I couldn’t make it through that mess when I once tried to watch it. Nothing made sense. Multiple 007s?? Random things happening for no reason? And worst of all none of it was funny. If you’re trying to make some kind of a farce mocking the Bond films you better make it funny!

I'm a DAD defender myself, but if Mathis1 likes CR67 better than the Brosnan films that's his choice, there's no reason to call someone else's opinion 'utter nonsense'.

Oh come on, ring! You and I have been communicating more or less since 2006 or so (on IMDb until 2017), but I agree that valueing another board member's opinion as "utter nonsense" goes too far. I like GE and TND, both even somewhere in the middle of my ranking, but with TWINE and especially DAD I'm tempted to watch CR67 instead sometimes. It's crazy, but once you accept that the movie really IS nonsense, it can be sort of fun. Though only then, and if I really wish to watch a comedy I'd probably pick something else. But other than that, it's a question of personal taste, and not of fact or nonsense.

I'll second that. Watching CR67's illustrious cast in "shag-tastic" style can be fun. It gave all the inspiration to the first Austin Powers movie (which I prefer to watch instead of DAD, too).

Yes, but really only the first... While I think the Johnny English films are quite enjoyable as a substitute...although I never liked Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean nor the Nigel Small-Fawcett character in NSNA. (PS: The latter name is particularly intriguing for a German who speaks English. Fawcett -> faucet means Wasserhahn in German, or in short, Hahn. Hahn in turn also means "cock" - or rooster for the Colonials -, but you get the gist). So Nigel's last name is meant to be program.)

“Utter nonsense” is TO ME how I feel about watching CR’67 over DAD. My opinion. I’m not disrespecting someone else’s opinion. If they’d rather watch CR’67 over DAD I’m certainly not going to show up at their door demanding they hand over their copy of the film. But TO ME the idea that CR’67 can be a better watch than DAD is “utter nonsense”. That’s how I feel about it. Nothing more, nothing less.

Like 2001, I think CR '67 is probably best enjoyed in an altered state.

If I may interject, this discussion might be best had in the DAD thread. This is meant to be a place where we share photos of behind scenes photos of the Bond movies, currently we are on DAD.

Love how there are wounds on Bond's back in this deleted scene.

I always wondered where those scenes would have taken place, instead of the ice room scene? That weird shot of Graves watching them is curious too

I noticed he had them at the end of the film as well.
