I already own this in a different form though no idea where it is, this is much better looking set than the one lost in storage.

Anyone else splurging for the Criterion sale at B&N?

I went all out last year and purchased five titles.

This year, however, my "list" this year is a bit short. For one, I recently subscribed to the Criterion channel and there are actually some bonus features there that are not on the disks. Secondly some of the titles that I want (Le Samouraï, for example) have only been upgraded via the 4K format. Maybe, I finally get the bluray of McCabe & Mrs. Miller.

Nice! I have yet to see Le Samourai and McCabe & Mrs. Miller, but they’re certainly on my list. I treated myself to the 4K releases of To Die For, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Blue Velvet, and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas today. Definitely getting Risky Business later in the month, maybe also The Piano and The Trial.

It's funny, but the films you list there @FoxRox I have seen nearly all of them, but they are the sort of movies I've seen once or twice but I have no desire to have them in my collection and be regular viewings!!

Fair enough, I think it’s interesting how even rewatchability is subjective. A big one that comes to mind is the fact I watch Schindler’s List like every other year or so, and everyone else I know says it’s a one and done for them, which I respect and understand.

Oh, I agree regarding 'Schindlers List', have that and it's a very powerful watch, and continues to be. Exceptionally well made movie!

Not really as good as Charade, but still great. Don't miss the shower scene ;)

As for me, I bought this :

    75_5051888269732_vid.jpg

I'd rather bought Godzilla Minus One, but until I can, it'll do.

At $800 USD, I can always hope that I win the lottery, but the 40th anniversary Criterion boxset is really interesting. Hopefully, the 216 page book will be available for separate purchase at some point.

    https://www.indiewire.com/news/general-news/criterion-collection-40-anniversary-box-set-1235034034/

A cash grab or an essential for film lovers? Opinions differ.

@Gerard: here in the US the 4K+bluray Godzilla Minus One steel book has completely sold out from Target and Amazon, so I'm left with buying the standard 2 disk Blu-ray set. Note, hat these are all preorders with an expected September 2024 release.

I think it's just as good as 'Charade'. Always enjoy Gregory Peck, and Loren is gorgeous! Great set pieces, the ending is really exciting!
Henry Mancini does another great score!

I'm trying very hard to limit my physical media purchases these days, but I had to preorder the upcoming Blu-ray release of Crossplot, by Imprint. I hope the transfer will be better than 2023's release of Assignment K, which has a dated look.

I have never watched Arabesque all the way through which is a crime as I love Charade, I was hoping to watch Arabesque tonight though I can't remember where I put it, one disadvantage of having hundreds and hundreds of DVDs and Blurays.

I just watched Arabesque, and while it had its moments, it was not nearly as GREAT as Charade. It suffered from that mid-sixties need to be light & funny with Batman-like jokes/puns amongst the killings and distress. Very not bad, but very not great, either.

    Charade
had a good balance, there are darker moments when we think our heroes are in genuine peril.

Gosh, I haven't seen 'Condorman' in ages! I do remember the lovely Barbara Carrera in it, and Frank Spencer with a dodgy American accent, and even Ollie Reed is in there!

A good selection of movies there so worth it, I have not bought much 4K recently after buying all of the Trek movies in 4K, thought I would take a mini 4K purchase break barring a couple of films lol

I will definitely be buying T1 at some point.
