Despite owning all the films I still have only watched the first three in the series, the first film is my favorite from what I have seen.

Yeah, Bourne is more human in this one.

Said it before, but The Bourne Identity is a standalone in my house. No Doug Liman, no Bourne, etc. Matt Damon recently joked that when Liman and Tom Cruise go up to film their movie on the International Space Station, he's going to tag along and he and Liman are going to make Bourne In Space during Tom's downtime! When asked, seriously, if he'd make another Bourne film with Doug directing, Damon said 'Yeah, I've always been open to it.' Pretty sure that's not true, tbh. After all, when Universal said they'd never let Liman direct any Bourne sequels under any circumstances, Damon could've just refused to make any sequels unless Doug directed. It'll be interesting to see what happens with, and after, The Instigators.

I want to lend some support to The Bourne Legacy. Renner does a pretty good job in that one. It's a quieter film, but it's got a good atmosphere, some tense moments and beautiful photography. I wouldn't call it a failure.

I like it more as stand-alone movie.

I love all three of the Bourne originals and I do enjoy The Bourne Legacy too.

The only real dud was the last one. Well made, but dramatically inert and had some strange character work.

Yeah, the idea that Bourne's dad created Treadstone and he joined it to avenge his pa was just...nah.

Edward Berger turn out bissy with another movie till summer 2025 and then deside what he wil do next and possible he won't do next Bourne if he can't bring something new. Sound like Bond mabey more something for him, if Eon whant him.

    https://www.darkhorizons.com/berger-not-clear-on-his-bourne-future/
Nearly a year ago, Universal Pictures announced a new Jason Bourne movie was in the works and “All Quiet On The Western Front” director Edward Berger was in talks to direct.

With Berger currently out promoting his Pope election thriller “Conclave,” he was asked by Cinema Daily US if any further progress on the new Bourne film has taken place.

It turns out Berger isn’t as locked down for that film as you might think, he tells the outlet:

“It’s really not clear whether…I’m not doing it right now, and I really don’t know what I will do in the future.”

Indeed, Berger is not only promoting “Conclave” and doing the awards campaigning required for that film, but he’s also in post on the Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton-led Netflix film “The Ballad Of A Small Player” and must finish that before figuring out what’s next for him:

“There’s a bunch of [project] options and I have to bring out this movie, ‘Conclave’ to the theaters, and I have to finish ‘Ballad’ which [will] take me until next summer, and everything that goes beyond that is kind of beyond my comprehension.”

He’s not dismissing Bourne though, on the contrary he’s a big fan of the films but he’s also aware of their legacy and says there’s no point bringing them back unless there’s good reason for it:

“But you know, ‘Bourne’ is a wonderful franchise, and if there ever were an – and I don’t have it – an element that hasn’t been told yet and a good reason to bring it back and for me, to have a good reason to have the feeling, ‘I can make the movie as good as Paul Greengrass did, because he did great, great films, and that’s a very high [bar] to jump over.

And you really need a new agenda of bringing it back, otherwise, there’s really no reason [to do so]. You can only bring it back if you have something new to tell. Something new to add and that would probably be Matt Damon’s only reason to come back.

He’s not going to need money, he’s not going to need to make this. If he can have an inner journey, and if an actor finds that to play then that’s a wonderful challenge, but if you can’t find that, better not make a movie like that.”

From the sounds of it Universal hasn’t found that reason, suggesting the film is earlier in the works than anticipated and won’t be happening for some time.

I thought the Bourne films were superb, but they're also quite of their time and to me feel dated in a way that the Bonds of around then don't somehow. They had a real freshness and represented something new and exciting, and now we've moved on from that they don't quite have the same punch.
I think Bourne's time has rather come and gone and I don't think they should be looking at another one.

The Bourne Identity is still a great movie 22 years later. Remember, DAD was released that year.

Unlike the Bond stories, I think the Bourne continuation novels would be a nice way of continuing the series. The big misstep of the recent Greengrass-helmed entry was the way they twisted and turned and, dare I say, bent over backwards to manufacture a fresh reason for Bourne to go up against the agency again. It felt repetitive and contrived, and to me, a poor imitation of the trilogy's strengths. Many of the continuation novels brought fresh aspects, scenarios and new enemies for Bourne, however some of the characters in those books are already dead in the film timeline so that would have to be rejigged. There's room to play with the character, but they just need to make sure the plot is compelling.

On the other hand, Bourne is pretty defined in popular culture as an anti-government agent at this point - so going a new route could equally be received poorly.

I'd be interested in seeing a fresh name in the director's chair, at least.
