Some actors have mixed feelings about playing Bond. Dominic West, for instance, who auditioned for Casino Royale, has said contradictory things in interviews. At some point, he said that he wasn't really interested and dropped at the audition in casual clothes, as he was only there because his agent asked him to. Then, he told that he would have loved to play such an hero. And a decade ago, he admitted that he loved what Craig had brought to the franchise, that his performance had turned things up, and that he had gone deliberately the audition in casual clothes to look different and stand out from the others. But… he preferred not to show that he cared, and he was also influenced by a "school of thought" that the part would be a "bit of a poisoned chalice because the films had got so bad."

Maybe Owen was a subscriber to the same "school of thought". It should also be said that Craig's tenure has considerably raised the caliber of the talents attracted to the franchise. Or it was simply a money thing.

I didn't know Dominic West was considered by EON, enough to audition. It's one of the candidates alongside James Purefoy, which I would have liked to see, back in the days.
I remember the rumour many years ago was that Owen had said upfront he wanted a percentage of the gross and that Eon wouldn’t play ball. I can certainly see Owen playing hardball thinking he was in a strong position (he was the obvious choice at the time, iirc) and it all going wrong.
Sounds a bit unlikely that he started discussing bonus and salary before even auditioning.

I was a big fan of James Purefoy way back in the day. I think he maybe even have been my leading candidate that I wanted to play Bond. Man, I’m very happy with the guy we got. I just can’t see any of the other names being able to bring anything genuinely fresh to the role.

Before Craig was cast it was my favorite potential Bond, alongside Jason Isaacs. Don't think the latter ever auditioned though. But I had a very "Brosnan" mindset: while I knew he had been Bond for long enough, I thought they'd find a successor somewhat akin to him.

I have the Blu ray of Purefoy’s Solomon Kane but have never gotten around to watching it. I’ve heard that it pretty good; I’ll pop it in tonight.

It’s not great, but it is good, imo. I’ve watched it two or three times and I always enjoy it.

Turner’s moustache is really stealing the show in that trailer. I think he looks a bit like Mike Wozniak with it.

Nicole Kidman is currently gushing about the sex scene she shot with Harry Dickinson for their upcoming film, Babygirl. Isn't that one vital Bond quality? For Dickinson to not only share the screen with Kidman comfortably, but he was confident enough to film a sex scene with such a Hollywood heavyweight like her. If Harris Dickinson ends up being Bond 7, I won't be surprised.

I'll have to watch it when it's out. But I've been very impressed with Dickinson's performances and would say he's my top choice for Bond too. He's constantly praised for his acting ability, and I'd say he's got a lot of screen presence and even gravitas that a lot of actors older than him I've seen suggested here lack for me. His only major faults I would say are his youth (although by 2027 he'd be 30/31. That's still very young but not unprecedentedly so for Bond, and a film can work with that), and to a lesser extent the fact that he's not had his 'Layer Cake' (which doesn't matter I would say, but I think for a lot of people it would make it slightly tricky seeing him as Bond before the actual film).

Another plus about him is he's already relatively famous as an actor despite being so young. From the interviews I've seen of him he seems pretty down to earth and hard working. While Bond is a different level of fame altogether, it might be a plus that he's outwardly been able to handle his early fame.

I haven't seen him in anything, but from pictures he looks very young and youthful. I think his age isn't an issue, as I suspect they'll go for a younger actor, so he can he Bond for longer and to give the movie a "year 2" feel.

Again, he doesn't have that Layer Cake or Tomb Raider to go from (even Babygirl I think will play up his youth) so his Bond potential is less something that immediately jumps out in a single performance but is something you might have to look for in a few films. He's a great actor though and he's got a lot of stuff worth watching.

I thought he was really great in A Murder at the End of the World (although he sports the most Un-Bondian looking mullet, not that dodgy hairstyles means you can't be Bond - I'm thinking of Craig in Our Friends from the North, haha. In many ways I think that show gives the best indication of a hypothetical Dickinson Bond). Triangle of Sadness is a strange film but his performance is great too, although he plays a very conceited character. Still, he shows at least he's got that ability to do physicality/swagger and even coldness when needed. He even has a smaller role in The Souvenir Part 2 (not a film I was into, but he was memorable in it) where he replaced Robert Pattinson. As seen in Kingsmen he can wear a suit and tuxedo well.

We'll see though. I think he's potentially a good option and could make a great Bond. He's even said he's intrigued at the idea of playing Bond - https://screenrant.com/james-bond-casting-rumors-harris-dickinson-response/

In any case, I prefer actors who can look Bondian in movies where they don't look Bondian. Craig as the monk in Elizabeth for instance: it's apparently his scene charging at the Queen that got Barbara's attention.

We’ll see either way. Like I said though I think he’s a really great actor (one of the best young ones around, at least in the UK). And hey, if he doesn’t get it this time round there’s a chance he could do it ten years down the line. But we’ll see :)

Unlikely, though I would like Cavill to get the role.

Cavill has zero box office appeal. Argylle was one of the biggest flops ever and Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare actually grossed less than Argylle! You could cast handsome Joe Shmoe walking past Eon's Office....(assuming the dude could act)... he would be less box office risk than Cavill. Idris Elba also zero box office appeal but was (along with Cavill) the internet's choice for Bond no 7.

Eon should cast a near unknown with zero box office failures baggage. Cavill has never had one box office moderate hit when not playing Superman. I'm not talking about big hit, he hasn't had one moderate box office success. Why would Eon cast a guy with such a poor box office record? Find someone fresh without the negative box office history. Craig never had any box office baggage. Hardly anyone knew the guy (!) but no-one thought that was an issue.

We need to forget all this movie star nonsense.

Yeah. He's got gravitas and a saturnine gaze underneath that youthful face. Plus, by the time EON are ready to start, he would look physically mature, in addition to his already innate charisma. Yeah @007HallY He looks like a potential Bond 7.

It's possible if Amazon make a tv show or film with a relatively new actor, someone with Bond potential, he's likely to play Bond?
    The Hollywood Reporter

Amazon MGM Studios is doubling down on its original film business.

The studio arrives at MIPCOM Cannes with nearly all its eggs in Earth Abide‘s basket, an original series starring Alexander Ludwig (Vikings) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark). The show is a post-apocalyptic tale, based on George R. Stewart’s 1949 novel, about the fall of civilization from deadly disease — which Chris Ottinger, president of worldwide distribution and acquisitions at MGM, says represents “a lot of the feeling of now, when it’s a very strange time to be on this earth.”

The executive sat down with The Hollywood Reporter in Cannes to discuss the studio’s slate of shows and films getting their distribution launch at MIPCOM including the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, The Accountant 2 and the sequel to A Simple Favor.
What the team at Amazon has really discovered in recent years is their original titles are enjoying success with global broadcasters comparable to theatrically released projects. Ottinger cites 2021 apocalyptic film The Tomorrow War, starring Chris Pratt, which surprised the studio with an impressive run three years after it first premiered. On France’s TF1, The Tomorrow War outperformed Aquaman, Wonder Woman: 1984, and Black Widow. In Spain, it beat Terminator: Dark Fate, The King’s Man and Fast & Furious 9.

“These movies were older, they weren’t theatrically released, and yet they performed the same way that big theatrical titles perform,” Ottinger tellsTHR. “So it was our learnings from this that made us think we should really double down on our film business.”

He continues: “We have an incredible film slate. Courtenay Valenti leads our film division and she’s an amazing executive. We have an interesting hybrid model, where we’re releasing theatrically but then quickly going to stream

It's possible the next Bond actor may come from Amazon and not via another source. What I mean is, Amazon are a film/tv studio so they are in the casting business. When Eon push forward with Bond 26, Amazon may or will suggest names to Eon. It would seem bizarre not to mention actors! There could be a British actor appearing in a future Amazon film or tv show and Amazon think he has Bond potential. They could place pressure on Eon to cast him.

I watched See How They Run again the other day where Dickinson plays Dickie Attenborough and not only does he look mature and dashing, he’s also nicely funny in it, which I think is a good skill for any Bond actor to have. I would definitely put him on the list, and I think there are quite a few on that list for me; it’s not impossible to pick a 007 right now.

I like to watch interviews of an actor who has been suggested; check out the poster behind the person conducting this one.

    Cavill had the MI: movie.

The last time they cast an unknown was Lazenby. I doubt they're going to replicate that, although I'd argue Craig was the least famous so they have headed in that direction.
