Yes, a bit of a sad way to go, 22 years of suffering

As it happens I've recently been watching her in two old TV shows where she had occasional recurring comic relief roles "It Takes A Thief" and "McCloud"

Look in the dictionary under "cute" and there's probably a picture of her

Quincy Jones died at the tender age of 91. His musical achievements are too many to list, so for this movie-oriented board I'll just mention that he (every now and then) wrote some terrific scores for major motion pictures, like Edward Dmytryk's Mirage, Norman Jewison's In the Heat of the Night, Sam Peckinpah's Getaway, Steven Spielberg's original The Color Purple, and the original The Italian Job (list is nowhere near complete). A great musician and a great man.

To say Quincy Jones is a legend is an understatement, Quincy is one of the all time greats. R.I.P.

Whether a fan or not the production on this album is perfection by Quincy Jones, I don't think anything will ever out sell this album. (This arguably is the greatest music video of all time).

I am going to listen to the whole album, it is a masterpiece.

RIP Quincy Jones. The work he did with Michael Jackson is truly extraordinary, and we’re never going to see anything like it ever again.

I must say that I never warmed up to Michael Jackson, and in fact do not own a single album of his. But it definitely is not due to Quincy Jones' production and arrangement work on Jackson's albums, to the extent I know them.

Very sad to hear of the death of Quincy Jones. As Jermaine Jackson once said "Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, that's a winning hand." I enjoyed Jones's work as producer on Michael Jackson's Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad albums. He's definitely one of the people behind the scenes who helped Michael Jackson achieve superstardom.

Just learned that mangaka Kazuo Umezu, nicknamed "The God of Horror" for works such as The Drifting Classroom and Cat Eyed Boy, has passed away, aged 88.

And as a tribute to the great Quincy Jones, here's one of his most famous themes :

Yes, thats a great theme tune

I also liked his theme for the original "The Bill Cosby Show" back in the 1970s

French actress Geneviève Grad, who had quite a few important roles in the sixties, most notably playing the daughter of Louis de Funes in Le Gendarme de Saint Tropez, has passed away, aged 80 :

In honor of Veteran's Day, thank you to all who have served, and lost their lives to protect others.

Also, 25 years ago today, we lost an extremely talented (and generally nice person) to suicide. Mary Kay Bergman took her own life, due to having bad thoughts about herself. Namely, feeling that she was losing her talent. That couldn't have been more false, she was just getting started. She is missed in more ways than one. For me, she'll always be the best South Park voice actress. But her career goes way beyond South Park. If you have those dark thoughts, please know that there is help, even here. No one should have to feel alone, in particular veterans.

  • For me Tony Todd will always be the African warlord General Juma in season 7 of “24”.

RIP Tony Todd, I remember him as the protagonist of the more than decent Night of the Living Dead remake.

Sad to hear of the death of the British actor Timothy West, aged 90. He was unforgettable as the beekeeper in the Tales of the Unexpected episode "Royal Jelly" (1980).

I was sad to hear of the death of Lord Prescott, aged 86. He was the UK's longest serving Deputy Prime Minister for 10 years between 1997 and 2007. Whatever one's political persuasion he was a certainly colourful character during the New Labour years. Who could forget the infamous egg throwing incident during the otherwise deathly dull 2001 UK General Election campaign?
