I absolutely loved it; at times I felt goosebumps.

As far as the technology used to create it, I take it for what it is and suspend my disbelief.

I can only give so much leniency. It’s the same reason I couldn’t buy into the awful Skywalker cameo in THE MANDALORIAN. That weird need by fandom to have the exact same actors replay their old roles with uncanny valley deepfakery. When I look at those f/x, I’m not seeing the characters. Kirk wouldn’t just wander around so silently, but he’s only doing so because the tech isn’t there to convincingly replicate his younger voice. So we just get awkward moments of characters just communicating through facial expressions.

765874 - Unification resonated with me because these characters have been part of my life for 50 years. recast a hundred times there will only be the originals for me. That crew that cast were something special, seeing some kind of closer to two off my favorite ever characters mean's a lot to me and to many, many others.

I haven't a clue what's going on though, I think you have to be pretty deep into the lore to know who's who in that.

@Fire_and_Ice_Returns I share this, I can't really explain it but for me and seemingly, so many fans, there is a genuine emotional connection between them and the original characters. Modern producers would pay millions to have this connection.

Knowing Bill never got the chance to say goodbye to his friend makes it all the more moving.

It's never been clear to me whether Nimoy just didnt want Bill to see him in failing health, or whether Nimoy had finally had enough of him after The Captains fiasco. As a romantic, I like to think it's the former.

It’s pretty evident there was a falling out that resulted in Nimoy cutting Shatner out of his life, which was why Shatner couldn’t attend the funeral. That’s another thing that makes that video feel weird, is the idea that Shatner is using this as his way of saying goodbye to someone he wasn’t able to ten years ago, through the characters. Except, that’s not Nimoy, that’s just a guy wearing facial prosthetics. It just reeks of Shatner’s egotism.

The Roddenberry Archive: Robin Curtis: Becoming Saavik

This certainly meant a great deal to Robin Curtis, great interview.

Unification is unlisted on YouTube 670 000 people have watched it, I have read so many comments from people saying how this has helped them come to terms with grief.

Thanks for posting that interview with Robin Curtis @Fire_and_Ice_Returns.

I must admit I got a little emotional hearing the story of her father and how Nimoy was (in many ways) just like him.

    Powerful stuff.

I am not a Trekkie by any stretch but do enjoy the films and the shows. I found myself getting goosebumps in this short film. I thought the lack of dialogue added layers to the emotions and the facial expressions of all involved communicated what each character was thinking. I especially think this works on two levels, Shatner saying goodbye to an old friend AND also his most beloved character. I recall him being hurt that JJ didn't work a Kirk appearance in Star Trek.

This was a moving piece of film and I feel glad to have watched it.

I have watched Unification 6 times today, the score it is so good. It is a silent short film and the facial inflections say so much.

    Edited: 7 times.
When the younger Kirk;s dissipate and older Kirk nods in acceptance, wow!

    This Simple Feeling
I like how this is echoed in Unification.

“That weapon was set to kill.”
    “So am I!”

I’m gonna miss LOWER DECKS when it finishes this month.

Has it been canceled, still not resumed watching the show. how many seasons did it get 5?

Not watched Section 31 new trailer, the last one was not very StarTrek though I saw an image of a very familiar alien race from TOS that will appear.

It was announced cancelled back in April. Supposedly they were able to make an extended series finale but still have hopes of continuing the show in some capacity, encouraging viewers to keep watching as much as they can if they want to keep the show going.

I’d actually like a recut of the film. There’s a longer version of it where the TNG characters are given a lot more character stuff. Supposedly the director cut out a ton of that character stuff because he wanted to focus more on the mirroring between Picard and Shinzon being the real meat of the story.

I recall Wesley Crusher scene being cut, I would like to see an extended cut of the film.

For some reason this is blank on my PC so cant see what it is.

If the finale is as good as the penultimate we just got, then LDS will have truly left on a high note.

I just watched a few clips and trailers of Lower Decks the ships look so much better in an animated show than they do on STD certainly the episodes in the future.

Cinematic Cerritos clip was good from Lower Decks, nice homage to James Horner.

The Wayfarer and Titan scenes were great, I think I need to watch this show for the ships alone.

The latest episode makes nice use of a Defiant class ship and the ring ship seen from THE MOTION PICTURE.

It looks like Lower Decks is more faithful than the current live action shows.
