No film this size is ever the result of one or two people calling the shots. These are collaborative efforts involving many minds, hands and creative decisions. Broccoli and Craig alone did not make or break SP and NTTD. Writers, editors, producers (plural), cast, composer, cinematographer, technicians, ... all have something to do with it. The stubborn notion that a smitten "Babs" and a too cynical, too powerful Craig are, alone, responsible for the outcome of the recent two films, sadly persists.

If she was "Robert Broccoli", the narratives that exist about her devotion/fealty to Craig would not exist. It is unfortunate.

Oh im not saying that. Im just saying that out of all the Bond actors no one had more power than Craig. Good for him if he had that power. He knows his value.

Well, she has bigger balls than most of us. She cast Craig in the first place.

In that big Variety interview with Dan, BB, MGW and Fukunaga from December 2021, Craig said that he was contracted for four films. So he was out of contract after SP.

Gotcha. He was probably under a similar deal Brosnan was under.

Yeah, I think that’s the deal they all get now - 3 contracted films with the option of a fourth. That’s why Broccoli has said it’s a ten year commitment at least.

When a Bond actor has an option of a 4th movie in their contract. Do both sides have to say yes to it? what if the actor wants to do it but the producers dont?

Barbara Broccoli once said that Dan wasn't sure how many films he'd signed up for and when he asked her, she said four - but with hindsight 'I should've said nine!'

I do think Barbara let Craig have too much power when it came to his last 2 movies. I still to this day don't really know how Craig’s contracts for his bond movies were. Like was his first three films locked in when he first signed in 2005 and then his last two were on a film by film bases? I think whoever the new Bond is needs to get locked down to at least four movies.

In one of Craig's recent interviews (I can't remember where) he said that it was Barbara who pushed him forward and made him personally go to the various department heads when there were questions, concerns, etc. during his breaks. No wonder he was exhausted.

I think Bond 26 might not be as far as we think. Even if EON & Amazon have come to an agreement, they won't come out and announce it. Albeit once strong rumours start coming out again, we should take it a positive.
However, my slight concern or worry is, James Bond shouldn't change too much...even if it's very much possible that from here on out, we're going to see Bond do some things that might surprise us or things we don't usually envisage him do.

Flavour of the week, and I'm sure he won't be the last. SAS: Rogue Heroes will be on again soon, and no doubt Jack O'Connell and Connor Swindells will get a boost from that.

Jack O’Connell is 5’7”, so unless EON want the press to massacre the next Bond in a similar way they did with Craig.
Connor Swindells could be a potential to consider.

According to posts I've read here, Bond can be anything. (But not short?)

Nobody in any thread has said Bond can be "anything" and you're just baiting argument. Be serious. That out of the way, the magic of movies they could easily make a 5'7" Bond work on screen. It just would hurt publicity.

No offense to those who are on the shorter or taller side, but I think , when it comes to Bond, there is such a thing as too tall or too short.

Now, I sure there will be different views on this but for me the range is 5’9 to 6’4, with the sweet spot between 5’11 to 6’2

I don’t want to have an actor who’s 5’7 and is reliant on clever camera work to look taller and I don’t want one who is 6’7 and towers over most around him.

At 5'7", an actor would run the risk of being a Manlet, especially if he fell into the trap of bulking up to compensate for being vertically challenged. I say this as a wannabe 6' er myself, but i'm not jacked, so it's different.

Don't forget Tom Cruise is 5'7 and they make it work in the MI movies.

You want to see the actor head-to-toe in a few scenes. And the face needs to be striking.

I knew that someone would bring up Tom. He is an exception, and as much as I like the character of Ethan Hunt, he is not Bond.

sylvester stallone was pretty short in his Rocky movies as well and they made it work.

Never hurt Alan Ladd either, being short!

I get all of those examples, but, for me Bond is different; as with his race, sexual preferences and gender, it's a preference, not a prejudice.

I don't massively mind how tall he is, I must admit. I guess I sort of prefer him to look a bit alpha-ish and have physical presence, but I think Craig showed that you don't have to be over 6ft for that to be possible.
I think Dalton is maybe the tallest of them, is that right? And yet I wouldn't say I could exactly tell that watching him as Bond.

I think Hoult would actually be the tallest of them all if he were cast, but he's another one who I'm actually surprised is as tall as he is, I don't think I've ever noticed his height in one of his films.

What’s with that thumbnail? What does Brosnan have anything to do with the current predicament?

    Triggered?

    That doesn’t answer my question.

    Doesn't answer mine either.

    I asked first.

It's just a random video on the state of Bond pertaining to the wsj article that's all. It's kind of too political I'm sorry. Its my fault i need a break from here. I think you would agree too. I got sent into the good old ocd death spiral. @MakeshiftPython

Anyone prepared to take a bet there won’t be another one made by Eon?

    Gentlemen!
You can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

@Benny I'm sorry. It is not productive. I apologize. I'm taking a break.

@DarthDimi Yeah. I'm kind of a sloppy writer.
