Who should/could be a Bond actor?

I think Cavill, Turner, heck, even Madden all have a good chance to be cast. I don't think any of them would be a good idea. Too safe, unimaginative, superficial, too limited as actors. But I suspect Amazon doesn't care.

I would hope that Amazon feel they've had their fingers burned with Madden's deeply unimpressive performance in their Citadel show, I think he's one they're not likely to go near.

I do think, for all of the talk of streaming giants not doing great by these franchises, one aspect they do tend to nail is casting. All of the recent Marvel superheroes, the new stars of Star Wars, Jack Ryan, Reacher etc. - they've all got the casting spot-on for a lot of people.

A thing to note out of all those franchises as well is there is a mixture of well known actors (prior to their roles in those at least) and lesser well known ones. At the very least it's not a straightforward case that A-Listers were picked for all those roles. Not to say there were any unknowns I can think of in there (I suppose even the likes of Tom Holland and Chris Hemsworth did some stuff before joining Marvel), but Bond has only once cast an actor who could be considered 'an unknown' anyway.

Another thing to remember is if EON began meeting actors that might be the roster they go from (or at least consider). Personally, I think it's a case where there's absolutely no indication of who Amazon will cast. Maybe once the creatives are lined up we might get an idea. But it's all up in the air for now.

Saw this funny yet brutal comment on The Telegraph website comment section:

The next 007 in Amazonland will probably be that lump of wood who "acted" 007 in No Time to Die and the agent in Day of the Jackal.

But then the next 007 could be that other wooden actor in the Amazon "classic" Citadel.

🤭 Ouch. I love the Amazon "classic" comment. 😂

I'm not so sure that's all Maddens fault. If hes working with lackluster material and the director wants something a certain way theres not much he can do.

Yes, but he's rather limited. He had two or three big successes, GOT, when he was part of a massive ensemble cast, The Bodyguard, which wasn't a very demanding role, and Bastille Day when he was in the shadow of Idris Elba.

I think, with the Amazon acquisition of the creative rights, Jacob Elordi's chances just went way up. They well might be looking for a clearly rising international star, not an unknown.

I'm not big on social media but check out how many followers or likes an actor has...that will eventually lead Amazon and its algorithms to the next Bond actor.

They are going to want someone who already is demonstrating international appeal and not someone who is only just breaking in the UK or US. There was a chance of that with Broccoli and Wilson with their deep ties to the British film industry, but that is not the case with Amazon.

He actually deleted Instagram a few weeks ago, but he had 12 million follows before doing so. Personally, I LOVE the idea of Elordi getting the role. He is a good actor and looks like a leading man. He has been my number one choice for over a year now and I hope Amazon agree, he was phtographed with Jennifer Salke at the Saltburn premiere...even has the company logo behind him

Perhaps it's me just being too precious of the character, but the idea of an Australian being Bond again, doesn't feel right to me.

As for Elordi in particular, I can't put finger on what it is but I just don't see it. He just looks like a combination of sad and a bit clueless in those pictures, like there's nothing going on behind the eyes.

I could see Amazon casting him though

Elordi looks like a goofy effete caricature to me, hard pass.

Actor vs movie star, those are often two different things; the trick is to find someone who's both.

Absolutely, like Craig or Connery. I'd say Hoult is potentially that guy too.

Folks might say that Roger wasn't a good actor, but watch something like the San Monique extended hotel room scene: that's a masterclass of light, charismatic comedy acting; it's something not just anyone could pull off. If you imagine Lazenby trying to be as sparkling, knowing and funny yet likeable in that scene, it's hard not to picture the whole thing falling on its face because he just couldn't do anything as complex as that. He was an excellent actor at a particular type of acting: you don't get to be that successful if you're rubbish.

Hoult is an intriguing possibility and is exactly the right age, 35; I don't know if Amazon would want to share him with the Superman franchise, though.

It's tricky to find a young-enough actor who will want to do it (it is career-changing and the actor will never get another moment's peace, publicly), who isn't already tied down to a competing studio's franchise.

Amazon will back up the money truck to whoever they choose, that's for sure.

And I think a lot of the fantasy choices here are simply too old to take on a franchise (except for maybe Brosnan as a one-off, older Bond--but what are they going to do with him? Kill Bond off again?!?).

With Eon's deliberate pace, I think we were looking at late 20s actors. But with Amazon taking the reins, I'd say the pace will be quicker and we are looking at early to mid-30s.

Yes, you're right; to be honest I think being tied to Superman would mean the Bond folks wouldn't touch him- just too much of a headache.

Yes that's the thing: a movie where old, retired Bond gets dragged back for one last job is literally the last movie we just had.

I'm not expert on this, would Hoult be contractually obliged/locked in to do more Superman movies? is this sometimes an option to be written into contract

I would think he’s certainly locked in for more, even if Lex dies in this one. They’ll want their bases covered for any eventuality

Unnecessarily polarizing; on both sides he has people who strongly about him , as do many political figures.

History has shown that this type of thing brings up too much unnecessary conflict.

    Just my opinion

This is a thread for who could be the next James Bond; posting a photo of someone as divisive as Trump only serves to derail the discussion.

My picks may seem, for the most part conventional, but if Amazon came to me and asked for a half dozen actors to bring in for screentests, at the moment they would be

Suter, James, Hoult , A.Turner and someone in whom I recently have seen potential, Harry Lawtey.
