Thoughts? I haven't seen the superhero movies mentioned and I know little about them anyway. Is this from CBR all balderdash?
Although the Spider Man spinoffs have mostly been bad, it’s a bit weird to ignore the five (very) successful Spider Man films she has produced, and also to completely ignore the other producer in the mix entirely in order to make their point. Presumably as he hasn’t made any superhero films at all he’s not on their radar or something.
It just looks like an opinion piece to me. Nothing to get too excited about. I imagine Bond films will still get a theatrical release going forward. There's simply too much money to lose out on for them not to in my opinion. The same surely goes for any other major film series out there. I'd have thought that nowadays it'll still take it all to recoup the very high expenditure on the budget of a modern film and still break into profit.
The only recent example I can think of is the pairing of James Gunn and Peter Safran for the new DC reboot.
Probably the least unexpected news in Hollywood(!) but still good!

CULVER CITY, California–March 25, 2025–Today, Amazon MGM Studios announced that producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman have come aboard to produce the studio’s upcoming James Bond film. Pascal will produce the film via Pascal Pictures, and Heyman will produce via Heyday Films.
“We are approaching every creative decision with James Bond, which Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have so masterfully steered, with the greatest sense of responsibility,” said Amazon MGM Studios’ Head of Film, Courtenay Valenti. “Part of an elite group of producers who have developed and managed massive film franchises to box office success and critical acclaim, Amy Pascal and David Heyman are two of the most accomplished, experienced, and respected film producers in our industry. We are honored to be working with them on James Bond’s next chapter and are excited to deliver to global audiences storytelling that upholds the impeccable legacy of this beloved character.”
“James Bond is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema,” said Amy Pascal and David Heyman. “We are humbled to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson who made so many extraordinary films and honored and excited to keep the spirit of Bond very much alive as he embarks on his next adventure.”
Yes. It's safe to say from today onwards, more Bond 26 news will keep popping up.
Indeed.
Cautious as I may be about entering such uncharted territory (still can't quite get my head round what this might feel like without a Broccoli at the helm), I'm admittedly relieved there's real momentum again.
And honestly, if not EON -- Amy and David seem to be as strong a choice as we could hope for to guide the cinematic brand. If not obvious candidates in retrospect, frankly.
And it's not summer yet. ;)
From here on out, even before summer, every James Bond rumour will suddenly feel strong.
Interestingly, Borys Kit adds their deal is only for one film as opposed to an overall.
Is Amazon effectively signing them to "show us" deal where they have to prove they get it right before there's a longer commitment?
That said, at this rate they are going to eclipse the six-year gap between LTK and GE, aren't they.
Well the press release says they’re producing the next Bond film, not becoming the new producers of the Bond films: it’s in the text.
Does that mean Bond will have he/him pronouns? ;)
I am not a fan of Amy based on the stories, even if half true they say a lot about her. The other chap I don't know or have an opinion about. We shall know through the director and casting choices what this team might be capable of doing. I am cautiously optimistic.
There are no more longer term commitments. This is the important change to understand. Everything is film to film now. There are no more permanent people.
But do we know if they’re huge Bond fans?
All of the actors playing Bond and the MI6 staff will be signed up for multiple films, that’s just standard.
They are not the youngest producers in the world.
I'm talking at the above-the-line creative level (producers, writers, directors). Look at other franchises where trajectories change in an instant. Everything is different now that the owners aren't also the producers.
Is this speculation, or coming from a source?
Doesn't seem accurate. I can't think of another major cinematic brand that really does that, at least not at the producing level. Feige @ Marvel, Gunn/Safran @ DC, Kennedy @ LF, etc.
Creative teams may not get multi-film deals, but top-level producers—I'd assume—would expect more security. And I don't imagine Amazon would want the headache of replacing them each time they want to make something with the Bond property.
Kennedy is a different situation because the sale of LF had a bunch of uniqueness to it. Let's take Feige for a moment. If "Iron Man" had bombed, would he have had as much power? This kind of role exists because of success.
We don't need to look too far to see an example. Zack Snyder had all the power in the world until "Batman v Superman" didn't crack a billion. A year later he was fired. If "Superman" (2025) underperforms, Gunn will have the same fate.
That's essentially what I'm suggesting. Amazon my be dangling a similar long-term prospect to Pascal and Heyman, but contingent on Bond 26's outcome.
