My sense of Reacher is he’s rather idealised. Maybe I haven’t seen enough of the character though, but generally from what I’ve seen he’s always a few steps ahead of everyone else and even if he has his own moral code/is a loner, he’s very much a chivalrous figure who’ll help out or resolve a situation for selfless reasons.

For some reason, this description of Reacher's appearance in one of the books makes me cringe a little bit:

"a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue."

It's very... idealised, as you say.

That's quite a description! :)) It's not quite Ian Fleming or Raymond Chandler, is it? I've never read the books but the film and I suppose the TV series gave me the impression of him being idealised.

Until he met his wife, William Munny was probably one of the most vicious, reprehensible characters Eastwood ever portrayed; he somewhat blurred the line between hero and anti hero.

I think the hero/antihero debate deserves its own thread.

On a side note, the most typical modern antihero imo would be Peter Venkman. Maybe not the other Ghostbusters, but him definitely. He's little more than a crook.

I agree, it’s a very interesting topic, and open to a great deal of discussion

I go back and forth and try to learn a bit about and watch performances of the names that are being suggested but I just keep coming back to Theo James.

I wasn’t really keen on him until I saw The Gentlemen. I thought his energy would be more like Brosnan or Cavil, which would bore me to death but frequently throughout that show he reminded me of Timothy Dalton but with a bit more of a contemporary cool-factor/sex appeal

I think Theo James would be a great choice personally, he's on a Range Rover advert that's on all the time in the UK.

My only reservation with Theo James is what does he look like without his beard/heavy stubble?

There are far more complimentary photos of him without stubble

I’m curious, are you not a fan?

He looks good without a beard. There are many candidates who do need that beard. Regé-Jean Page is one of them.

I just occured to me that most of these guys were mentioned when EON were in charge. Don't we think Pascal & Heyman are looking elsewhere for Bond 7?

Why? EON is no longer there to reject them.

But none of them were officially connected to EoN; some are still viable, many are aging out and new candidates are emerging.

To this point it’s all fan speculation

Not really. I meant Pascal & Heyman might fish for Bond 7 in a different pond.

    Yeah. That's true.

I found nothing wrong with the photo - and I feel indifferent towards him overall. If he’s cast I’m sure he’d be good - if not then no big loss for me.

Even with a beard, he wasn't too convincing as a villain in The Gray Man. Even taking into account he was meant to be an evil geek, he gave little menace.
