Well that's just great. A cruddy artist like Adele having a part in my favorite movie franchise. Uggghhhhhh.......where have we gone wrong? Can't believe it's finally confirmed. What a disappointment, and waste of talent and potential.

You must have no idea a bout classy bond themes. Are you even a true bond fan???

Not a true Bond fan? Bit of a leap, he's entitled to his opinions about music.

I'm excited just like everyone, It's only 1.30 and any one who's listened to any of Adele's songs will know she starts of soft but finishes with a bang.

    Let's all take a deep breath...Friday 5th 00.07 is not far away ;)
  • Me like.

nothing to swing it either way at the moment. i don't feel it's a particularly strong start, but like everyone has said, this is a snippet and the real meat well may be in the middle and end of the song. any way, i'm sure it won't be as awful as some other recent efforts.

On itunes top chart, in less than 24 hours it's gone from non-existent, to 101, to its current spot: 86th!

How long until it lands at the top?

Okay, here's my list of TOP 10 favourite Bond songs:

    01) Shirley Bassey with 'Diamonds Are Forever'
    02) Shirley Bassey with 'Moonraker'
    03) A-Ha with 'The Living Daylights'
    04) *NEW* Adele with 'SkyFall' (with a grain of salt, as I haven't heard the full version yet)
    05) KD Lang with 'Surrender'
    06) Carly Simon with 'Nobody Does It Better' (Oscar nomination)
    07) Duran Duran with 'A View To A Kill' (Last Number 1 Hit, Grammy nomination)
    08) Paul McCartney & Wings with 'Live And Let Die' (Oscar nomination)
    09) Nancy Sinatra with 'You Only Live Twice
    10) Tina Turner with 'GoldenEye

Narrowly missing out my TOP 10: Louis Armstrong with 'We Have All The Time In The World', Shirley Bassey with 'Goldfinger' and Sheena Easton with 'For Your Eyes Only' (Oscar nomination).

NOT even in my TOP 15: Sheryl Crow with 'Tomorrow Never Dies', Garbage with 'The World Is Not Enough', Madonna with 'Die Another Day', Chris Cornell with 'You Know My Name' (main titles version), Jack White & Alicia Keys with 'Another Way To Die'.

Guys? I will adore 'SkyFall', simply because I really believe the music, both score and song, have been taken way more serious. The music department was the last branch of the Bond film that had to be revived completely ever since 'Casino Royale' went into pre-production.

strange. to me it has undertones of Arnold. may be that's just the sound that people make as they bob around in the wake of Barry.

I come to this thread, see over 100 new comments since yesterday and think: the complete song has leaked! But no, everybody is discussing how great, how bad, how neutral it sounds. It's a preview, from the beggining of the song. I loved it but then I was never expecting to be blown away by a 1'30'' preview so I accept it as such, as an appetizer, a teaser if you will. As such it delivers! It's been on my head since yesterday, non-stop. But as an Adele fan I expect that the song will only grow bigger and bigger along those more than 4 minutes! So now I'm thrilled to hear it on Friday (even though I'll not get much sleep) and only do I expect to be blown away :)

Well, what rhymes on "Fall"? Ball :-O Call. Hall. Mall. Tall.
Well I just heard a little of today in this web. It sound good to me.
  • I admit... I got it stuck in my head already... still hoping however that the full song will have some surprises and here and there a bit more power.

It's definately a safe choice but could be a really good safe choice! Looking forward to friday!

It's ok and it's sound like a change of pace from the last few songs. But it'll come as no surprise that i'm disappointed that Caro Emerald didn't get the job. Time to start my campaign for Bond#24.

Hmm. Dare I say that the film (due in part to the song) is now gaining the popularilty that we have seen for months?

I'm a fan of Adele. I like the snippet of her 'Skyfall' theme very much, and look forward to hearing the full song later in the week.
I think she has a fantastic voice, and to have her perform a Bond song works for me.
Hopefully this is another plus for Skyfall.

    It's impossible to please everyone.

That's my point. I could be here all day listing singers/bands I prefer to Adele but I won't do that since I know that choosing Adele was a genius move even if she isn't my favourite singer in the world.

Ohhhh her, yeah she would have been a good contender for sure
  • I'm a little mixed at the moment TBH. Her voice is great (and I'm not a big Adele fan), and I love the Bond theme, but I'm hoping it has a more identifiable melody, or something at the start that let's you know it's Skyfall theme.

With songs such as Goldfinger, FYEO, YOLT, AVTAK and YKMN, you know what it is within 2 seconds. The start of this Skyfall clip was very flat, but maybe the full version will prove me wrong.

But I am positive towards this song, it is very much growing on me, and, as I said before, her voice sounds amazing.
  • I feel that the sample shows the middle of the dong. I dont expect it breaking in to another melody. I am hopefully wrong though. I jsut dont feel it changing that much. We will have to wait and see

I feel the same way. I wonder if the sample is actually at the beginning of the song. I actually presumed it was somewhere in the middle of the song when I first heard it. I love Adele's voice so I hope when we hear the whole song it will be better. It certainly doesn't sound bad but it doesn't sound like anything wonderful either.

yes, this hasn't given much away. if there's a catchy riff or memorable hummable line it's not in this snippet.

It's just the beginning. The song starts with a piano solo, followed by the first chorus:

"This is the end, Hold your breath and count to ten, Feel the Earth move and then, Hear my heart burst, again.”*[/quote]

The bolded part can be heard in this snippet. I suspect the second chorus to be a bit more powerfull, and then the third one to blow the song out of the water.

I'm not sure whether this is the real sound/production we hear on this sample, but I find it very thin sounding and much too wide, which makes the overall mix together with the orchestra sound a bit chaotic, almost like it's specifically made for surround cinema sets. And that is never the best quality for music, only for filmeffects. I cannot get used to this kind of soundmix, which is reminiscent to the era 2000's.

It's missing some warmth like Diamonds or Goldfinger etc.

Musically I like the song and the voice of Adele, but not the production.
