i love all the bond films except QOS.. and all the activison spin off games like Blood Stone, Goldeneye Reloaded, etc

Very much disagree, I never want Bond to end. While QOS was an overall disappointment, it had a few excellent scenes that were very 'Bond'. Enough that, despite it being a disappointment, I still had great hope. Skyfall is looking excellent, so it being as bad as QOS (pretty subjective) seems unlikely; and the series has survived worse than two average films in a row in the past.
And in this case, its a James Bond movie, who cares about reviews. As a James Bond fan its a given I'll be at the cinema, wrong ofthe queue......
You will serious not go to the cinema if it gets bad reviews.? How excited are you for the film? lol
Im not even looking at reviews online. Im watching the film and passing my own judgment. Sometimes reviews mean nothing. They are not always right and its a personal thing.
I dont care about reviews, but what do you think the percentage will be on rotten tomatoes. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/skyfall/reviews/ I think in its 90's
I've been watching bond films for 35 years so i'm not that excited especially after the qos release.
You care about reviews, don't lie :) that's why you are asking about what review it will get on rottan tomatoes.
I don't know what percentage it will get as i can't judge it just on the teaser.
Hopefully it's a good one.
actually i havent read any reviews to be honest- the first bond film i ever saw in the cinema was Die Another Day and the only reaction i felt after leaving was that the film felt incomplete like there was something missing
when i saw Casino Royale in the cinemas (i didnt read any reviews) i was blown away and went to see it twice
however i went into QOS and i came out of the cinemas thinking i spent $30 on a movie so bad i would gladly watch Batman and Robin six times on a loop and yes i suppose after that reading reviews would help me pick movies (hell it saved me from watching Dark Shaddows...)
but from what i have seen in the trailers Skyfall looks as good as The World is Not Enough and Casino Royale and looks great- im going to pre-order my tickets ASAP
Did QOS get such bad reviews at the time? Most seemed to be along the lines of 'its not as good as CR' but I dont recall any absolutely slating it. DAD also got reasonable reviews at the time which just goes to show you cant trust what the critics say.
How do you know you that you wont think its the best Bond film ever and then you'll have missed it on the big screen?
Or do you always agree wholeheartedly with what the critics say?
Well said indeed Sir. I think this statement pretty much wraps up this particular debate.
Good post.
Its the every-Bond-shoulde-be-goldfinger critics I have a problem with. They review the films as if they are a succession of tickboxes.
I think that people who stubbornly cling to a specific idea are indeed clueless but that goes for *every* type of opinion.
There was a great interview with a pollster on the radio a few years ago and they were discussing a particular politician who was very unpopular with the masses (I won't say who it was so people don't pre-judge their position on this anecdote, regardless of the fact that most people who live outside of my area would have no idea who the politician was). Anyway, the pollster revealed an interesting fact - about 30% of the people who support a particular politician or political party will continue their support no matter what. So there is - quite literally - NOTHING that could happen that would dissuade them from following that person or party. To me that's really sad, and a good reason why a lot of people vote for politicians or parties whose policies make the voters' lives worse.
Now, there is a reason that I bring this up. There is a parallel to fandom. When someone says that they will see SF no matter what the consensus of the critics I can understand that. In fact, I would count myself among those people. But the anger that some people have towards critics who have a different opinion than theirs is similar to those people who blindly support...well, anything or anyone. When these people come up with excuses such as "all critics are pretentious" or some such thing then I tune out. Seriously, one critic's opinion is just one critic's opinion. But when, say, a hundred critics all agree that a film is poorly done then there's a reason for it. So when someone admonishes a fan for not "thinking for themselves" it can relate to people who would say a film is AWESOME! no matter what because they *want* it to be awesome.
Did I enjoy QoS? Yes, very much, but I can also admit that there were a lot of problems with it. Does that mean that I'm not a *real* Bond fan? Of course not. But If I blindly defended the film because, as a Bond fan, I'm *supposed* to then I'm no longer a fan, I'm a fanatic.
I hope SF is a great film, but if it were to receive 12% on an aggregate site like Rotten Tomatoes I won't be coming up with reasons why all the critics are wrong...their opinions are just as valid as mine. I can recognize that a film has flaws and still enjoy it without needing to prove that it *doesn't* have flaws - to me that would reveal insecurity on my part.
Did you even think before you posted? With that logic, the series had the chance of ending more than a few times in the 50 years.
No, reviews do not bother me what so ever. I always watch a film and pass my own judgment. I know im going to love it, even if it got a low score. movies are personaly, and not everyone is going to like them. I was just wondering the percent on rotten tomatoes, but i cannot stand that site one bit. !!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes i do look at reviews, yet, but with bond films.. noooo. Becuase im a huge fan, reviews for a bond film mean nothing to me. Skyfall wont even get bad reviews i dont think. It looks amazing!!!!!!!!.
Also I'm reducing my expectations as much as possible. This is partly due to the disapointment of Prometheus, but also in response to what I saw in the main trailer. I'll be sitting in the cinema thinking 'please don't be rubbish, please!'
Thanks to the heavy lack of spoiler tags by careless people, I know the entirety of the ending, it seems. Come October 23rd, I'll probably take my leave from this site until I see it at midnight on the 9th.
There are certain movie reviewers that are very good when rating films here in oz.
Surely you know some movie reviewer/s that is usually spot on most of the time atleast?
If it's the best bond film ever made it surely it won't be getting qos like reviews (awful)which were spot on in regards to the ones i read.
How can you wholeheartedly agree with critics when some are very good and some are just plain hopeless. You don't make sense dude :)
I said that you might think it the best Bond film ever made, irrespective of reviews, you know with your own brain?
I think you might just have made my point for me by illustrating why your own argument is untenable.
Thank you very much.
Dude.
Like i said because you seem to not understand what i am trying to say wiz.
If the film gets qos like reviews, 2/5, it's very unlikely to be my favorite bond film is it,
don't you think?
I would say the chances are zero.
It won't be better than the first 4 which are bond film masterpieces at best if it gets qos like reviews which is all i am saying.
Simple enough for ya :)
So if it gets 4/10 for example from all the critics, not that i wish that, i hope it's at least a 8/10 film, will you still go see it at the cinema or wait until it's released on dvd is all i am asking.
That's true with the mixed reviews.
What were some of the films?
