I agree, he is one of my favourites. To people who still see him as a Shakespearean actor/director only, watch Thor. He directed a comic book adaptation, of all things, pretty much perfectly, good mix of action, comedy, etc.
  • if "SKYFALL" turns out to be a classic film and Sam Mendes enjoyed the experience I would like to see him helm a few more and develop the characters further. A bit like Nolan and the Batman franchise. If not then I think Joe Wright would be a great choice. I really enjoyed Hanna and I thought he handled the drama and action well.

Evidently a guy by the name of Roger Mitchell was considered for Quantum of Solace due to his work with Craig, but backed out due to.. you know.. there not being a script. Looking at his IMDB, I've never heard of him, or his work. Not sure, but I guess he could come back better prepared down the line? Anybody know of him?

And @nobodydoesitbetter ... Joe Wright would be interesting. Considering his previous work, Hanna is quite the good surprise! I feel we'd get a 'touchier' Bond out of him. Tbh I'll take Skyfall as it is w/ Mendes, but after this I wan't a kick ass action adventure with the only snag being the villain.

Skyfall will be filled to the brim with amazing action, and also intelligent drama. The best pair for a Bond film.

As much as I love the idea of Judi going out with a bang, I wish there had been a film in-between this and Quantum where Bond just did the mission, like FRWL.

While playing with Bond's emotions makes for good drama, and is easy to dazzle with excellent action, I wan't a straight forward 'complete the mission' film, w/ his only emotional ties to the effects of Felix (or another supporting character) and a GREAT GREAT villain. That's all Bond needs imo.

We'll get mind blowing action scenes, background on Bond's past and some great inter-MI6 trust issues, and Javier FREAKING Bardem is the villain! I don't know how much more you want, because this is paradise for me. Happy 50th is right.

Oh no no no. I'll enjoy it to the utmost extent.

This^^^^ I'm looking forward to Skyfall but there are 2 things I'm worried about. 1- the new Q, and 2- the Bond/M trust issues. I got really bored of it all in QOS and I was also hoping for a straight forward "complete the mission" film.

For those that are still suggesting Tarantino for a Bond film, he's done with the series since Eon turned down his retro 60's idea for Casino Royale. He might be on your shopping list but it'll never happen as he's fallen out of love with 007 and cried like a baby when it was made without him. I can't say it upsets me too much as I never thought he was right for the series.

My own view is that Eon should find a good director (like they have with Mendes) and stick with him over a protracted period, just like they did with Terence Young (to name but a few) and allow the creative process to flourish naturally. I would rather have stability at the wheel than a solitary gun for hire such as the names being banded about on these threads.

If Skyfall works and is a huge success, I hope Mendes' connection with 007 is the start of a long and beautiful relationship. If not, then some of those distressing names might just be popping up on Broccoli's "gun for hire" list.

    Bernard Rose, Uk. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0741262/
Mr Nice (2010) (quote at 1.29 ''This isn't a James Bond movie'', and he also wrote the movie.)
    The Kreutzer Sonata (2008)

John Stockwell. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446147/ American. The poster of Cat Run is amazing http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cv3emMLJuSs/TZf-hnc8RkI/AAAAAAAAA80/QtwtGDydxXo/s1600/Cat+Run+poster.jpg and remember to the fire girl of Twine and litle bit FRWL, the trailer isn't bad and there be some English actors/style in it and Crazy/Beautiful is a very good movie.

    What about.. Daniel Kleinman?

The Bond franchise has a history of familiar crews coming back, occasionally with new titles to their name.

Whether its actors in recurring roles, returning directors, or editors who move on to be directors, the Bond family is just that, a family of familiar names.

He only has Bond titles, music videos, and commercial credits to his name, but I'm sure he could produce an interesting result.

    Thoughts?

Stuart Baird would also be a good choice. Either of these two could rise through the ranks, just as John Glen did and do a solid job on a Bond film I reckon.

I know at one point someone in the pre-production of QoS was offered the role of director. It may have been him, but I think it was one of the long-standing writers or producers. Not sure.

But Marshals was very enjoyable, and he's done a fantastic editing.. job... yes he has. ( Had to check on QoS ;) )

I think it's more realistic for us to look to what the producers have already picked rather than name off hopeless contestants like Tarantino (even though I'd love it).

Paul Haggis, I believe was offered Quantum Of Solace at some stage, you're right. Add Nolan in and there are plenty of names to choose from for future films.

Ah yes, another interesting option for the future. I'd like to see them 'explore' with these guys, if they haven't already.

Let them shoot some advertisements and such. Or produce some of their films, Eon/MGM!

Ironically, Haggis is directing a new film titled 'Third Person' which I was just researching yesterday because it has Neeson in the cast. ( It's a romantic film :/ )

An action star and action writer and not an action movie makes me a grumpy boy.

Any proven member of the Bond family getting the directing job would put me at ease a bit, certainly. Even John Logan would work. He also seems to know the character of Bond and how to tell good stories in general.

For someone outside the Bond family, I'd like someone like Philip Noyce. Not a big profile director these days, but has proven in the past that he can handle big action adventure dramas.

He did an alright job with Salt so could be worth a look, yes.

A better reference for his quality of work would be the two Jack Ryan films he did, for me anyway.
  • I was thinking lately about a few directors I'd like to see do Bond, Mendes was near the top of the list for me as he's one of my favorite directors of all time and now that's become a reality. I know everybody is caught up in the Nolan craze an with good reason as I think he'd do a splendid job, but there are two directors I'd really like to see take on Bond. THe first being David Fincher and the second being far more left field..... Darren Aronofsky. Yes, I'll probably get flamed for that but I really think he could direct one hell of a Bond movie.

I really hope SF turns out great and if that be the case, I'd love to see Mendes come back. However, in terms of a change of director, I'd love to see Nolan's effort as director.

    Joss Whedon?
  • Edgar Wright.
  • Nicholas Winding Refn could be good, provided he didn't over stylize.
  • I always wanted Tony Scott, though sadly that's not going to happen now.

Kathryn Bigelow would be an excellent choice. Or Duncan Jones, who I believe is currently working on a big-screen biography of Fleming.

Failing that, let's just have Martin Campbell back every four films or so.

Vaughn,Matthew Vaughn. Stick with a english director.
Layer Cake and Kick-Ass were great films.

Matthew Vaughn is plausible, with the connection to Craig. I just wonder why they haven't made it yet..

Bigalow is a popular choice, while Refn would be.. fun.. to see. Not sure how it would turn out. Bond would be bashing in people's heads with his foot if he really had his way.

Edgar Wright would be absolutely fantastic. He'd bring back the funny but not make it camp ala Hot Fuzz.
