Too much CGI in Skyfall ? Or just Obvious CGI that wasn't needed ?

After having a long think about it, i feel the CGI ruined most of the experience. Dont get me wrong, it's a great film. But CGI was never on my worry list. People have been moaning about product placement, when the CGI parts are bigger of a problem. The lizard was quite bad, but the worse thing. The helicopters that fly over silva. Why not use real ones. that annoyed me big time.

I felt a bit cheated to be onist.

    Obvious CGI parts:
    -Komodo dragon
    -Helicopters arriving to the island
    -Silva takes out his dentures

The helicopers weren't too convincing but that was like a 2 seconds long shot. The other CGI things looked just fine.

I really don't get all the fuss about the CGI in Skyfall. The movie has surprisingly little amount of CGI.
  • i knowm but when it looks fake is lets it down, bond should feel real. I know it was only a few seconds though. Do you guys think the CGI was quite realistic, because i want it to be. i need to watch it again tongiht to make my mind up

I actualy liked when he took out his dentures. but that is obvious CGI because it wouldnt be real. Its the parts that suppoed to be real that they could have done and they didnt. they could have got a real dragon for it and a real helicopter. certainly the helicopter part!!
  • The komodo dragon looked fake, especially when Bond stepped on it. I think they did have real helicopters in one shot so I'm not sure why they made them CGI for a different one.

It's nowhere near as bad as DAD and it's pretty minor but the CGI was a bit dodgy.

It wasn't the ammount of CGI, it was when they did use CGI it was obvious.

I didnt even notice that they used CGI for the helecopter scene until i read it here. I was much more annoyed with the 'in your face' CGI overload from DAD..
  • did the dragons look real, i just cannot remember much.

They were alright when they were on their own, but when Bond was in the pit they looked fake. Especially when Bond stepped on it for the LALD reference.

    Agreed.

The only "obvious" CGI I remember is Silva's deformed face/mouth. And even that is nowhere near as atrocious as DAD.

Too much CGI? you must be joking.

The train sequence is 100% "real"...

People have been moaning ever since DC was announced as Bond. Product placement was even rampant in the sixties, so I don't understand the big deal about that either. He even holds his hand on the Heineken logo when he's in bed with that hot chick.

Komodo dragons in Macau?!! It's far too cold for komodo dragons to live in Macau all year round from my experience of the islands. They prefer hot and dry places. Shouldn't this have been set off the Indonesian islands instead? The casino must have been as hot as a desert!!

Totally unrealistic. This movie is worse than DAD. [-(

This is what I meant earlier. Once a complaint like this starts, it gets blown out of proportion and like those, who said, they didn't notice it, now they will and it might sorta spoil it for them, too. So why complain about bits, when there is obviously enough good stuff to talk about. I just wonder, because I haven't read about bad CGI in any of the reviews yet. Or in the tweets..So..dunno...can't be that bad.

Sorry, @JamesCraig, but nothing can be as bad as DAD.

I see, @JamesCraig. The point I was trying to make was that I've visited the casinos in Macua and have also experienced how bloody cold it can get there and there's no way komodo dragons would survive the year out unless the casino was heated like a reptile enclosure... though I like the idea of Bond fighting one... I just think they chose the wrong location for it to take place. Just a little niggle.

To be fair, the fact that any negativity is being focused on trivial things like this is a compliment in itself. The film is strong overall, but no film is perfect and people are allowed to point things like the CGI out to others. This is a forum after all. However, the film was a resounding success when all is said and done.

You are right, but you know, how this goes. Before you know it, we have a BIG affair on our hands, how terrible the CGI is. If people would be able to restraint themselves from overreacting, it would be no problem. But we often see, they/we/I tend to overreact at times and that would be a sad thing, especially right now. That's all.. ;)

Ok, but I'll watch out for that Beretta of yours. B-)
  • The PTS also has some very dodgy CGI as well. The scene with the digger also slowed the pace. Why didn't patrice just wait for bond to climb over the digger arm and shoot him then?

There is practically no CGI in the PTS... And that comment you have has nothing to do with it, btw.

Actually, there were quite a few moments of obvious, if not CGI, then green screen.

Sum them up if you like.

    I didn't say NO CGI. I said "little". :D

Are you kidding??? So many shots of Craig and Ola on the bikes looked so fake, and i'm not just talking about the obvious green screen as well.

TBH there was no need to fake the shots as we are intelligent enough to know that its a stunt rider.

The bikes were all done for real.

And you don't have get worked up. It's only a movie & and a forum.
