Should be good but the price... Oh my. Hope there will be a paperback version also.
  • Hopefully, the price will drop to around $100. They usually don't make cheaper / paperback versions of their books. They did release a cheaper version of The Stanley Kubrick Archives, but it took a few years after the first edition went out of print.

Is this the James Bond XL book talked about in MI6's 2012 book preview?

  • Yep.

No doubt more exciting for dedicated Bond fans will be the release of an enormous luxury coffee-table book designed by Taschen, who are best known for the books on art, architecture, design and philosophy. The large-format landscape book 'XL James Bond' will run for an amazing 500 pages. Editor Paul Duncan has scoured half-a-million images and 100 filing cabinets of production information to gather the most interesting previously unpublished material from the 007 movies. 'XL James Bond' will be released in November 2012.

I hope this is as good as it could be then. I'll buy it when it comes out, that's a given.

It's odd that both Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again are included. Will the material be as in depth for these two films compared to the EON series?

Finally an original piece of 50th merchandise rather than just an uninspired rehash in a 50th box (bluray releases, Corgi, Scalextric - I'm looking at you here).

Odd how CR67 and NSNA get in. Do EON own the copyright now? Obviously Mcclory would never have sold out to EON but perhaps the moment he died his family were happy to finally wash their hands of the whole thing in exchange for a juicy cheque?

Word of advice for anyone fancying this book:- buy it from America.

Just went on Amazon.com and its retailing for $126 (£79). Had a look on Amazon.co.uk and they want £135 for it!!!!

Amazon UK taking the piss even with shipping.

Wow, this is very, very cool. Shame that it costs so much, though. I hope I get to give it a read sometime, though.

Looks an impressive piece of memorabilia to have! £135.00 is a bit steep though isn't it? :-O
  • The quality of this book will be superb, I'm sure. I bought the one they did called the Stanley Kubrick archives, which was basically the same format as this, and also had the limited edition film cell (of 2001: A space odyssey).

Anyone had an advanced peek yet, if so what do you think?
Its very steep (£100) and not likely to be an off chance purchase so be good if someone has any thoughts

Does anyone know if this type of edition sells out, or might it get reduced (which I doubt)?

Remember to boycott Amazon.co.uk and order it from Amazon.com to save yourself £20 even with the postage from the states.

Once again UK Bond fans left out of pocket.
  • Just ordered; I hope its worth it! Having consumed an almost unhealthy amount of bond books and documentaries over the years, its so hard to find genuinely fresh information on the making of the films.

    Just got mine today.
Will need an archive to keep it in! It's massive, weighs a bloody ton. Neat little box/carrycase it comes in. Have to keep it in there to make sure it doesn't get damaged. I have had a quick look (if going through 600 pages can be quick!) and am well impressed, should be a few things in there to keep even the keenest of fans interested.
If anyone can let me know how to upload images to my post I'll give it a go.
Only mistake I can see after a quick shufti is release date for Skyfall, given as the 23rd October and not 26th, but then that's a mere trifle.

Now, I'm over the moon it's on my Christmas list!

I'd love a picture of the book itself if possible @Lancaster007. Having worked out how big it is I dread to find out how much it weighs!

Let us know if the information in the book is new or not. Much of it should be for 600 pages.

To upload photos use this site: http://beta.photobucket.com/?home_ab=true

Give us the URL it gives you and post it in the forum's image tags when you post.

Indeed I did - bugger to get out of the plastic slip - mine is the scene of 007 at Dr No's dinner table. Don't know if they are all the same, would imagine they would be different.
  • This book looks amazing, seen a sample over the net. Very expensive though. Will have to save the pennies!

Sell your mother/wife/children and get one before the price goes up. Bloody good book, but like you said very expensive.

As much as i love them?! I still don't think that would cover it? :)) ;)
  • Hey Lancaster, I heard theres a snap in the book of Daniel Craig's screentest that got him the part. I would love to see this if you could take a snap and upload it or something? I think a lot of bond fans remember that prolonged period of time
leading him to his castings and I would love to see what the screentest consists of. Thanks a lot.

I assume you get a Dr. No film strip when buying the book from Amazon.com, right?
  • edited January 2013 Posts: 11,119
I bought it for €120,- here in Barcelona :-D! Damn, this book is BIG! I have the Dr. No filmstrip too. I had also this cardboard attaché case and a 120 page booklet with the entire Spanish translation. The 600 pahe 'brick' was nicely packed in plastic foil:

I suggest: Just wait until you can buy it in bookstores.

    @Gustav_Graves

Nice pics! Mine arrived the same too, in a rather nice carboard holder with the name on it. And it had the Dr.No film cells too!
