I do think it's a shame but all in all it really isn't much of my concern. It has no effect on the current series other than some missed public appearances.
He happily took a knighthood even though he wants Scotland to be completely independant. He tells people what to vote for politically while living abroad as a tax exile.
See my point?
But even though I don't respect him much because of that, I think him not going to the premiere is his decision, he doesn't owe us anything and I haven't lost any respect for him because of it.
More fool the UK Government to award a knighthood to a person who openly campaigns for Scotland to be independent. I don't blame him for accepting it.
He doesn't "tell" anybody anything. He is a UK citizen living abroad and has a right to express his political views via the media if asked.
He has said that he'll return to Scotland to live if it gains independence.
If I were eighty plus I would love to live in the Bahamas, heck I would like to to live there today. And if I would get more for less tax I would not mind as I generally disagree with some stuff my taxes are spend on.
And as far as the knighthood goes, he deserved better than the folks who bought it. And the man has never said he was not proud being a Scot, so him being up for independance is his political choice.
Oh for sure, but don't you think there is real hypocrisy in wanting a gong from a country you are trying to dismantle.
Do you really believe he will go back to Scotland if it became independent? To get the benefits of the tax rules of the Bahamas he has to be a resident. He will be no more a resident of Scotland then I will be building an orbiting space station in my back garden.
Connerys only god is money. If he had to chose between Scotland and losing his tax status Scotland would be kicked into the long grass.
Your point being??? :-?

Sour grapes or hostility??? :-?
Fair enough they shouldn't have given it to him but if he's that bothered about it he shouldn't have excepted it. I honestly doubt he'll return to Scotland if it gains independance, but if he does good for him. He's living abroad because he's a tax exile.
But back on topic: he doesn't have to go to the premiere if he doesn't want to. The end.
That I agree with.
Anyway, great pity that he won't show, but it is his choice at the end of the day. I'd like to hear some confirmation that Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan will definitely be joining Daniel Craig for the celebrations.
I suspect the others will all show up. I hope that someone can separate Pierce and George before something gets out of hand, though.
He does say that, but of course he wouldn't actually do it. He knows it won't happen in his lifetime, and if it did the climate would not suit him any more.
Basically he is on safe ground saying that. If he felt as fiercely patriotic as he states, then he would go back anyway and fight their cause.
Paying UK stax isn't so bad. I'm sure more Englishmen have contributed to his wealth than Scotsmen anyway ;-)
Or did I miss us invading Gstaad and claiming it as a principality?
With all his charity work for UNICEF? I would let him off!
.....and Connery was mean to mr. Trebek , don't forget that , lulz :D
Still love them both though.
Connery does not have to attend to satisfy the Bond fans. He can do whatever the hell he wants. All of us are just going to have to live with the disappointment.
I am sure we all will seeing as he stayed away from the 40th Anniversary too.
Completely agree!

Has done and was the start of things to come life goes on ! and so must we
Also all this enthusiam for Bond's 50th anniversary has made forget about Connery to some extent what with all the actors seeming to be willing to participate.
8-|
How is it that he is the only Bond actor to complain about "not being paid well"? If the producers were so stingy, then why haven't the other actors come out and said so as well? Sean Connery may be entitled to not go to the 50th special, but I'm also entitled to call him out for being an arrogant snob and a classless human being. We all know his reasons for not attending, and they have nothing to do with his age, physical well-being, or the travel distance. I love Sean's movies and like him as a Bond, but as a Bond actor, thank the lord that Roger Moore exists (who made just as good of films), because as a person, he is a million times the character that Sean Connery is.
Well well said indeed couldnt agree more.
