An announcement this year would be the icing on the cake but knowing EON, they'll make us wait until January at least.
  • could still reach the one billion mark, half way there

And I have been saying this for quite some time now......and many of my fellow Bond fans thought I was crazy :-).

January isn't that far off, so either will work for me.

$87.8 million in the U.S. is the biggest James Bond opening weekend here ever for the Bond series. Beautiful.
  • yup it was fantastic,,,maybe if we bring nolan to next bond movie...it will be $175 million...more than the dark knight rise yesterday ($170 million)...and make me happy bond 'kill' batman !!!

The good news is, announcement or not, the studio will definitely be pressuring to do B24 sooner rather than later with these numbers.

My thoughts exactly. I hoped (since its announcement) that we could continue the one Bond film every other year schedule, but with these numbers, it looks incredibly likely. Hopefully an official announcement hits in the coming months.

DC has said, that the new script is written as we speak, so it certainly looks like they want to start shooting end of 13. And why ot? They have all the money they need now.

MARK my words…”SKYFALL” will hit 1 billion cum within 60 days. Dom and global combined. It’s that cool of a Bond movie, for many demos. My audience was packed; demo ranges; everyone…always applauding and shouting in satisfaction.

    Quote:
Our Regal Cinemas in Battery Park City in lower Manhattan is almost never sold out of a show except for opening weekends of movies like Dark Knight and Avengers where some of the shows are sold out. Every Skyfall showing from 6PM on had been sold out this weekend so far- this has never happened before.
  • What did Sherrif J.W. Pepper said in the back of the red AMC Hornet in 'The Man With The Golden Gun' :-P??
  • This really seems to be Craig's GF or TB in terms of box office.

I was just thinking, that Sandy certainly must have cost the film. There are enough people there unfortunately, whom I assume to have other things on their minds and empty pockets, too.

So, the film might have done well over 90 mill without Sandy.

Whe I started reading for a moment I thought you were talking about me :-S then I realized it was the hurricane. Sad thing, yes I think a lot of people have more important things to do right now than go watch SF.

    ;)
  • When will we know the updated UK numbers?
  • Bond 24 will almost certainly get greenlit for as fast-as-possible schedule, and it wouldn't surprise me if they also strongly hint Bond 25 could follow 2 years later (all things going well etc). Why? Because MGM are looking to go public next year, and will want as many profitable projects on the near horizon as possible in order to maximise their share value.

We're at $117 million in the UK now. It'll take down Avatar for the number one spot in the coming weeks.

I still think $900 million depends on the hold both in the US and overseas next weekend, if it's strong enough, then yeah, we're in with a shot for the 3rd biggest Bond ever. And that would be unbelievable. Who would have thought that, except GG. $300 million up on the last film.

;-). We should play Texas Hold 'M soon. Casino Royale-style ;-).

The four day total stands at $90,564,714. That's $88,364,714 for the three day weekend.

If it crests the $900m mark it could end up the third biggest film of the year at the worldwide box-office (behind both The Avengers and The Dark Knight Returns), but it faces damned stiff opposition in both Twilight and The Hobbit there, I suspect.

Personally, I doubt it'll make it to $900m, but it may well break the $800m barrier at this rate, which would be awesome - in more ways than one... :)

From various 'social sources', I don't see Bond going past $800 Million. The attitude here is 'if you have kids, go see Wreck It Ralph, if you don't.. go see Skyfall'. I think Twilight will top it, but it won't 'steal' too much of the audience away. Different groups.

But the Hobbit will definitely hurt it.

To be fair, most of its money in the vast majority of its markets will be hauled by the time The Hobbit opens, I'd wager. With the exception of Japan probably...

Competition from 'Twilight'? Maybe, though back in 2010 'Inception' did not suffer from 'Twilight II' and the other way around.

'The Hobbitt'? That movie premieres on December 13th (UK) and December 14th (USA). That's 32 days from now. One bloody big month. By then 'Skyfall' may well fall much more yes, but I do think it still can retain some marketshare deep into December, early January.

Hence the fact that 'M:I-Ghost Protocol' got extra screens added in February, when Paramount saw how it was soaring. Let's see if Sony will do the same.

Yes, but some economists would predict people would be willing to hold back on spending money on Skyfall and save it for a month down the road.

But I don't think that's the mindset of people at all. People tend to spend money when they want.
  • An Indian winter for Skyfall? Will it hold on until the holiday festivities and get another boost into 2013...it just might

That's a fair amount to add on once the majority of the money has been taken. Thanks.

These figures are great! I think Bond films will now also figure in IMAX alot more in the future seeing as they have had great returns here too?
