Not officially a Bond film and it is a remake But if we over look that i feel still stands up as a Bond film. Yes i will agree with any one that says it should not of been a remake because I'm against remaking Bonds but if you watch it and forget all the characters names are the same as Thunderball. The action is different and the story is slightly different. Could it of been a stand alone bond if E.on made it I mean it makes it into my collection and i believe it belongs there it does have parts that could of been in the official bond films i.e the part were Bond gatecrashers the party and takes the security guard hostage with nothing more then a cigar case typical bond move. And with Connery as Bond takes you back to The old days but if it was timed different and had been made by E.on could it of been a official Bond film. Or anyone else like me think forget all that and still regards it as just another Bond adventure

While I'm aware it's not a film in canon, that doesn't stop me from thinking of it as a James Bond film. And I find it one of the more enjoyable ones out there. I actually enjoy it more than Thunderball (blasphemous, I know).

I think NSNA is a horrible film; I don't say this because TB is my #1 favorite Bond film - if two versions are to exist, I might as well like them both - NSNA strikes me as a lethargic, cheesy, terribly acted and poorly assembled cashing-in on the Bond brand. Every EON Bond film is a better movie.

It's as Bond in my eyes as the original Casino Royale. Without the music but with the very uneven pacing and the only title theme worse than Madonna, I prefer to forget it.

    oh yeah that is why
  • One of the things I really enjoyed about the film were it's opening credits. I thought it was clever the way the film opened up especially the graphic they used instead of the gunbarrel sequence.

I like the song quite a bit, I don't see why some hate it so much.

Ehe only thing I like about NSNA is that they explain why Bond is at the health spa, which they never do in Thunderball. After the PTS and the scene of Largo explaining his plan at the SPECTRE meeting the next thing we see is Bond at the spa. No explanation as to why he's there in the first place!

    Not for me.
I don't have it and I've never seen it completely (just bits in the web and TV). Neither I intend to.
It's not part of my Bond canon (EON) as I don't count the non-Fleming books either.

I'm always curious about this: Why not?

I've seen it a couple of times but I have no intention of ever buying it. I just have no interest in it whatsoever. I'm quite sympathetic towards McClory but I think his relentless pursuit of the character was deluded. Aside from that, the film itself has none of the quality, gloss and class a Bond movie should have. I don't think TB is the strongest but it absolutely blows NSNA to bits.

I don't consider it a Bond movie. I mean, there's a character call James Bond, but also in the fan-made movies, spoofs and whatsoever which are not "Bond Movies".
Besides, I have nothing but contempt towards Kevin McClory.

I get that when it comes to movies like 1967's Casino Royale -- but Never Say Never Again was based on Fleming's Thunderball, and in some ways is truer to that book than the movie Thunderball was. While I don't think of the film as being one in canon, it certainly seems a "James Bond" film. Is the Sherlock Holmes movie The Seven Percent Solution not really Holmes movies? That seems the equivalent to me.

I'm stating this only from my point of view, I'm not assuming that everybody else should think the same.
In the same fashion, I don't consider Star Wars The Holiday Special as part of my Star Wars canon.

I wasn't trying to suggest you were explaining anything more than your outlook; I was just curious how far that outlook extends.

There are some things not on my horizon...cricket, gardening, Primark.

I would add NSNA to that list. Its best forgotten.

That'd be how I feel about Moonraker. :)

    Yes and No,

My Reasons for : It starred Sir Sean Connery, but also Kim Basinger, Barbara Carrera, Max Von Sydow, Rowan Atkinson... It's a lot of fun (a spoof in my eyes), good action and entertainment. Beautiful locations, new unusual scenes, a good title, the opening scene, I partly like the fact McClory had his name linked to a Bond film (they shouldn't have played kids with the other author of TB and Ian Fleming, but money striked again, quite logically).

My Reasons against : it's too spoofy, not much a real mission, it's only a marketing coup to counter-attack Roger Moore's peak era, It's a Kevin McClory whim. It's ..........slow, the cast is beautiful but doesn't care about the remake, the theme is worse than Madonna's one (I would have prefered same styled Spandau Ballet's Gold which is superb), the ending is happily silly. And many other reasons suspended...

    For the moment.

So, indeed a half Bond. Spoof and mostly bad but entertaining. Sorry, I prefer "Moonraker" which isn't that bad to me.

It's just bland. Inoffensive west coast jazz, it has no drama, much like All Time High which was equally weak IMO. Both would be more suitable as the theme for Moonlighting or a mid 80's Steve Martin comedy, not Bond.

I think you'll find it is officially a Bond film. The offical film rights are testament to that. Just because it wasn't made by Eon doesn't mean it wasn't official.

By the way, e.on are an energy supplier so I doubt they would be best placed to make a Bond movie anytime soon ;)
