I read something about it and the Gorn species is in it and the damage system is cool because the starfleet shirts get more and more torn up as you take heavy damage. Ala Classic Shatner. :p

Having seen the trailer I'd say J.J. Abrahms is looking more to that other darker Star Trek series: 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'. It's my favourite series, full of great storylines and one big storyline that encompasses all seasons. DS9 was a very political TV series, mirroring a lot to the (pre-)1990's political environment. It was also a lot darker, dealing with things like big wars, ethics, terrorism, holocaust and espionage inside Starfleet (Section 31).
'Star Trek Into Darkness' sounds very much like the DS9-premise. But off course J.J. Abrahms also looked to the revived Batman- and Bond-franchise ('The Dark Knight', 'Casino Royale', 'The Dark Knight Rises', 'Skyfall').
No, I am completely in for this new Star Trek adventure. It seems Lindeloff and Abrahms not simply created a new Star Trek timeline (destruction of Vulcan and the post-Vulcan-destruction after effects -- Mirrors the post-9/11 world we live in) to have fun, but also to stay loyal from now on to this new timeline.
He saved the planet, and the Federation. All of this clearly only merits a promotion from cadet to ensign?
As SFdebris stated in his review for ST 2009, The ending should have been a Montage of Kirk making his way up the ranks up becoming Captain.
/:)
the trailer at the end it is cumberbatch who mentions family but that could be a scene set in england about a grieving father (Noel Clarke).
I still think kirks brother George with section 31 and possibly a person called Soong
his brother was cut out of the movie, and renamed johnny his friend.
Agreed, such a missed opportunity! But at least this once hidden Gem has been revealed. :D
In 'The Animated Series' April was the first captain of the Enterprise but that show wasn't considered cannon.
Here is April

Here is a detailed synopsis of the The Counter-Clock Incident in which April made his appearance..

Never too late to insert this into another special edition of the movie. Prefer this theme to the one used in voyage home.
I als find Michael Giacchino's Star trek 2009 music superb too.
In the trailer there are what appear to be Cyro-chambers. Cumberbatch's character posesses super strengh and could be one of Khan's superhuman crew. Could the Botany Bay have been discovered earlier in this timeline by an Enterprise commanded by April? This could serve to set up Khan for the third film.

Allthough I admire Abrams' work for Star Trek, I'm afraid this also means Abrams is not going to do a 3rd Trek film no?
He'll probably be an adviser or Producer. After all before Into Darkness, it wasn't sure whether or not Abrams would come back as Director.
