OHMSS vs. TLD

OHMSS was my favourite Bond film until CR came out. Interestingly, FRWL was my choice for "best" Bond film (as opposed to favourite) until CR came out as well.

I'd say that Dalton as Bond is the one thing that TLD has over OHMSS. In every other department I rate OHMSS higher.

I completely agree with everything in this post.

Also, I came across this on YouTube. It's a modern recreation of a trailer for OHMSS. Very slick.

  • Tough one! But for me it's OHMSS.

Dalton was a better Bond (Lazenby was the worst in my opinion but I still like him) and the first half of TLD is brilliant but I have to go with OHMSS. I like the story better overall and of course you have three wonderful performances from Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas and Gabriele Ferzetti. TLD's supporting cast was good but not up to that caliber. OHMSS certainly is too long of a movie but the great parts more than make up for it.
  • TLD is my prefered of the Dalton Bond's and I'd take him over Lazenby any day but OHMSS has more going for it in the other categories in my opinion. The villain(s) in TLD are very weak and forgettable, Kara just can't compare to Tracey and the action sequences in OHMSS feel a lot harder and grittier than in TLD.

TLD wins it for me, Dalton is better the overall film is just better. OHMSS has it's moments but as a whole I wouldn't say it was as good as Dalton's debut.

Those in charge like every one of these kept in one place.

OHMSS wins it for me. I liked Dalton's performance in TLD but wasn't too smitten with the sillier moments like Rubavitch or the cello sledge ride, plus General Georgi Koskov was too lightweight and Brad Whitaker I found rather dull. OHMSS has a far better Bond Girl in the form of Diana Rigg and the movie is both gorgeous to look at and listen to. Now that doesn't mean I dislike TLD, it's just how I weight the two together that I feel TLD is the lesser movie. If you were to ask me the same question but set it up against SF then I'd say TLD is the better movie.

OHMSS. It's the better film but TLD has nothing to be ashamed of as, OHMSS is superior to the majority of the films in the series anyway.

OHMSS is my favourite Bond film so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know which way I'm voting.

TLD is still top tier for me and TD's strongest although he gives a more tailored performance in LTK.

The single most important thing in a Bond movie is BOND. I therefore have no trouble choosing TLD easily over OHMSS, as great an overall movie as it is.

    Another vote for OHMSS.

Daylights is a decen debut but doesnt have quite as much...umph to it in my view direction-wise or plot wise. Kara is good but Rigg beats her hands down. Not to mention that OHMSS is actually based more on a Fleming story.

Though OHMSS has it's weaknesses too (namely awkward editing//dubbing and a little too much back projection in some scenes - and if course Laz's uneven performance).

Back in the eighties I got a hold on OHMSS on capacitance video disc for like $5 on sale, and I had never seen it in the theatre, only bits on the telly, and it frankly blew me away. Easily as good as Connery's best. But Dalton rules the role, and as good, no, as great as OHMSS is, Dalton is freakin' mesmerizing as Bond. So yeah, a very good movie with Dalton beats a near perfect movie with Lazenby. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;)
  • No question: OHMSS is the better Bond film. Great fight/action sequences, better soundtrack, better direction and one of the best Bond girls ever. The movie maintains that 60s style which is still very Bondian.

TLD. OHMSS is a REALLY GOOD film about nothing.

I think if you look at it objectively and on a technical level, OHMSS might be the best film in the series.

But TLD is one of my all time favourites along with Licence To Kill and Goldeneye. So I'm going with that, no question.

If Dalton was in OHMSS it'd stand a good chance of being ahead of LTK as no 1 on my list. I like Lazenby but during parts of the film you can tell he's not an actor.

If you look at a scene with just Lazenby in it, with no action or FX, it sort of looks like a REALLY good-looking fan doing a pretty good take on Bond... ;)
  • If Connery was in OHMSS then yes, but Laz ain't Dalton and TLD is a great Bondian story in it's own right.

TLD ranks 5th with me and OHMSS 7th, it's a close call but TND it is.
  • Daylights, because Dalton was a far better 007 than Lazenby could ever be, I enjoyed the locations more, we had an actual theme song that year rather than (a very good) instrumental from John Barry, and I'd rather watch it, of the two, given the chance

Dalton is better than Lazenby for sure, but the Bond girl, villains, locations, plot, score, direction, and action scenes are far better in OHMSS.

    Point to OHMSS.

LOL, that's like saying your girlfriend, your boss, your house, your CD collection and your survival through a bad storm are ultimately more important to you than YOU are!

There's no better Bond IMO than Dalton, but OHMSS is the pinnacle of Bond movies - Lazenby may not have been an actor but he is pretty amazing in the movie considering that.
