Well, as was pointed out to me recently, Bond failed to retrieve the agent list, he failed to save Severine, he failed to shoot Silva when he had the chance on the London Undergound, he failed by ASSUMING his personal arsenal would be intact after he'd been declared dead and he failed to save M.
So, the movie is kind of a fail. :))

I bet, every producer on earth is thriving to have this sort of failure at his hands >:)
  • Oh, maybe, I caught the second part when he took the mickey out of how Silva could pre-plan his attack, how it must have been years in the making, and then how Tanner hides under the desk, however tbf he did have a lot praise for that scene too.

Dyson's reviews are a hoot, in particular his 67 Casino Royale one where he strips off and dons a bowler hat for the finale in total exasperation!

Undoubtedly! What can I say though, people like dark stuff these days, a light farcical romp like LTK would never make money in today's climate. b-(
  • Well, SF does touch all the right bases like I say. It makes a great trailer, wheraas imo LTK doesn't, no matter what you think of it.

But maybe I am just reading the film wrongly, I don't know.

Naaah, there is no right or wrong in like/dislike. It's all subjective, that's all. People simply like or dislike any film or other work of art, and basically that's it.

Apparently everyone loves Christopher Nolan, except me. I didn't think Inception was all that interesting. The other day I tried to watch The Dark Knight for the second time (I saw it first time when it first came out in theatres), since I had again been reading how amazing it was and I didn't even really remember what happened in it, but it failed to hold my interest. Not bad, just a bit meh.

Many here, even many of those who love SF, don't much care for Newman's score, but I love it. When people were bashing Newman and wanted Arnold back, I wondered what I was missing and got the CR and QoS soundtracks to try and just listen to the music properly, and while it was ok, I just didn't hear what they were hearing just like they don't hear what I'm hearing in SF score.

I have no problem with that. People have different tastes. It just hasn't yet occurred to me to tell people who prefer Arnold to Newman, or dislike SF, or love Nolan to bits that they are intellectually inferior to me for not sharing my point of view, or that in due time they will see how wrong they've been in their views. I don't think they are wrong in their views or I wrong in mine, we just have different tastes.

Very well. So let me state for once and for all, that if you are One of those who consider SF's Storyline sound and - coincidentally - found QoS's confusing then you probably have no Business at all in watching Spy Movies, let alone reading the better Books of the Trade (but Lucky you there is always Vince Flynn to be bought)

I happen to agree with your takes on the two movies, but just speaking for me, I'd enjoy a less insulting tone here. FWIW.

Yes I consider SF's story sound, no I didn't find QoS confusing (atlhough I did find it slightly lacking), and no I couldn't give a toss what your opinion is for me liking SF.

Oh, you are obviously a gifted human being, with a higher intelligence. How silly of us to question your knowledge about the world, universe, and everything. Poor me, my brain was just enough to get a doctorate,it's none of my business to watch or read spy thrillers.
    Disengage irony mode.

Now seriously, it's not funny anymore. Don't insult our intelligence. Accept the fact that intelligent people are able to like Skyfall! Accept also the fact that spelling correctly is something intelligent people are usually capable of...

Oh, and by the Way ...Since my grammar doesn't Sound to far Off the Way, it should be quite obvious, that it is the German spelling correction of my iPad that often gets in my Way (often not always. I have to admit, that i misspell in German as well) and i am much too lazy to always Touch the little Little Cross above the Word Since i really have to do it often enough anyhow.

Clean? Brosnan has the highest kill count and debatably, destruction.

No I meant, no bullets actually hit Bond when he was played by Brosnan :)

    hm, good stuff.

I didn't find CR and QoS confusing but I did need to make sure I always paid attention, or I started to lose it.

The complexity of the storyline in those two films was one of my favourite aspects of them :)

Certainly agree with that - just listened to it again - it really is very bland. I was all up for having a change over Arnold, but now I wish he was back, at least he gave the film a backbone in it's score. I was very surprised Newman won the BAFTA for it, and I have a feeling he'll certainly be back if Mendes jumps back on board again...

Yes, even Deutsche Frau admitted the Newman score was bit lame. I didn't think it was actively awful like GE but it just contributed to the generally limp feel of the movie. Insipid and bland.

The argument about whether SF has a good script or not is a good one. My view is that the plot is deeply flawed but Logan creates some decent scenes by working within this. Overall though I don't really think DC or Mendes believe this script is a work of art. As someone else above said, had this been a Brosnan film everyone would have been slating it. SF has been given a professional appearance by Mendes and some great actors but the underlying material is pretty weak.

Any way, who trusts any actor's opinion on what's good and bad? Not me. I think most of them spout nonsense. It is amazing how stupid a lot of actors are. The good ones have an emotional intelligence and intuition in the way they work but don't ever try and read too much into what most of them say. We often forget that actors use other peoples words on screen and off it they rarely have anything interesting to say.

Couldn't agree more, it was ridiculous at moments how any human being could escape all the bullets from all those machine guns without a scratch. Even an ex-00 couldn't manage it. I don't mind when there is cover involved, but out in the open misses by supposedly well trained marksmen suspends (wait for it) my belief far more than anything in SF short of the bridge fall in the PTS. But since Pierce and Sir Roger got away with it, why not?

@thelivingroyale, I was just reading that a little while ago. They did a similar article and talked about the Harvey Dent chase scene with Batman and the Joker in TDK: everything works exactly to the villain's plan.

Awesome, and all true, even (especially) the Star Wars one, but that 's fantasy, not reality like the rest.
